STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS

“Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road, while He opened to us the scriptures?” LUKE 24:32 How often do we take the time to discern what Jesus wants from us? Are our prayers always peti-tions, asking Jesus to do things for us? If so, that’s a one-sided relationship. Living our faith means de-veloping a personal relationship with Jesus. Just like any friendship, there is give and take, each side listening to each other and helping each other out. Take time to listen to what Jesus is asking of you.

FROM THE PARISH SECRETARY My sincere apologies to all who attended the Parish Appreciation Dinner last Saturday— there was no dessert served because I forgot to order it! I hope you all will forgive my slip-up but I do hope you at least enjoyed the main course!

The members of Curé of Ars are presenting Bishop-elect Rivituso with a spiritual bouquet to celebrate and honor his elevation to the office of Bishop. Index cards will be provided after all Masses next weekend, May 6-7th, so that any parishioner who desires to do so can offer what-ever spiritual blessings they wish on the card. The cards will then be placed in an album and presented to Bishop Rivituso.

SPIRITUAL DYNAMIC CATHOLIC, ALIVE! COMMUNITY

PARISH LIFE

Please join the Association of the Mi-raculous Medal on Sunday, May 7th at 3:30 p.m., for the annual May Proces-sion at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Perryville. The procession will form in front of St. Mary’s of the Barrens Church. The ro-sary will be recited as the procession proceeds to the grotto. The traditional May crowning and prayer service will be a part of the devotion. Transporta-tion will be available for those unable to walk in the procession. Call 1-800-264-6279 or visit www.amm.org.

Spiritual Heartburn and Typology. The disciples re-counted how their hearts were burning within them when Jesus opened the Scriptures to them. One of the many beautiful elements of the faith is Biblical typology, the fulfillment of elements of the Old Testament in the New Testament. Common examples are Noah’s ark prefiguring the Church, the Flood prefiguring Baptism, and Moses prefig-uring Jesus Christ. As we rejoice throughout this blessed Easter Season, let us pray with the Old Testament and see how Christ fulfills what is found in it. St. Augustine wrote, “In the Old Tes-tament, the New Testament is concealed; in the New Testament the Old Testament is revealed.” Through typology we can experience spiritual heartburn, the best kind, and more fully appreciate God’s plan in salvation history.

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL The Road to Emmaus. Throughout the story of Mary’s faith journey, she is traveling almost constantly: from the visitation to her cousin Elizabeth, her journey to Bethlehem, the young family’s flight into Egypt, to the pilgrimage to Jerusalem with the child Jesus. Her travels, both alone and with her growing family, are an opportunity to grow in faith, with one heart, dedicated to God’s will. In today’s Gospel reading, two apostles find themselves in the same scene that we often see Mary: traveling on the road unsure of the future. The risen Jesus meets them on the road, and they share with Him the recent events of the crucifixion and apparent disappearance of Jesus’ body from the tomb. Jesus helps them understand that His death and Resurrection is the fulfillment of the scripture, beginning with Moses and the prophets (Lk 24:13-35).

During this Easter Season, the Annual Catholic Appeal is dedicated to our Blessed Mother and encourages us to follow in the example of Mary. She was often unsure of the future, yet placed trust in God and His will, knowing that it would be revealed in the fullness of time. Like Mary, on the road as a young woman, or the apostles to Emmaus, many in our communities may be struggling on their journey, unsure of the future. Extend the love and mercy of Jesus to those seeking as-sistance on their journeys by making your pledge today!
