April 10, 2016 ~ Third Sunday of Easter WE ARE ONE IN THE SPIRIT… The power of Jesus’ spirit that the first disciples received gave them the life force to go out and announce to the world the story of the Lord’s suffering, death and resurrection. This is the story of the Good News of the Gospel. Without the resurrection, the story of Jesus might be just that of a man who did good, who taught well, brought healing to some and was put to death because those in authority were jealous of the crowds he attracted. However it was the fulfillment of his promise to rise again on the third day and make that promise to all who believe in him, that they too would share in similar resurrection to new life that is the message of Gospel that went forth and challenged other people to put faith in the name of Jesus. We are here today because we have such resurrection faith. We are resurrection people. We look forward to the Lord fulfilling that promise to us and to all who put their faith in his name. The post Easter challenge for us is to still tell the story and promise of Jesus. During these weeks after Easter we reflect on how to be disciples of Jesus and messengers of the Good News and the promise of new life. People still need to hear this message through our words and actions. May the risen Lord help us to be like those first disciples filled with his spirit and a hopefulness that Jesus Christ has overcome all sin and evil and will give us with life forever…Fr. Joe THE JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY… "The courage to trust in Jesus' mercy, to trust in his patience, to seek refuge always in the wounds of his love. Maybe someone among us here is thinking: my sin is so great, I am as far from God as the younger son in the parable, my unbelief is like that of Thomas; I don't have the courage to go back, to believe that God can welcome me and that he is waiting for me, of all people. But God is indeed waiting for you; he asks of you only the courage to go to him." — Pope Francis FATHER DAN… Fr Dan is coming along slowly. He has been walking a lot outside on nice days. He feels he is coming along and is waiting for a Doctor’s appointment this coming week where he hopes to hear about his progress and what else he might have to do. He is anxious to return to the parishes. Please continue to keep him in your prayers. If you would like to send him a card mail it to the OLM rectory 2 E. Springtown Road, Long Valley, NJ 07853. AN IMMEDIATE NEED FOR HOUSING…A senior citizen couple is in need of a two bedroom apartment that allows pets. If you have what they are looking for or know some leads for them please call Patricia at 908-832-2644.

CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICE --- CATHOLIC CHARITIES INTERNATIONAL… Learn more at: CRS.org/you-did-it-for-me In Mumbai, India, there is a shelter for girls that provides a range of services to help combat human trafficking. Some girls at the shelter were trafficked into Mumbai from rural India, and others are from poor areas of the city. Thanks to CRS and partner, Prerana, the girls can complete their education and receive services to prepare for a brighter future. This is just not a problem overseas. The following is an excerpt from the US Bishop’s statement on Human Trafficking written in 2007. “Human Trafficking exists right here in the United States, where thousands of persons are trafficked each year for purposes of forced prostitution or forced labor. It is estimated that as many as 17,500 human beings each year are trafficked into the United States. Men, women, and children have been forced to work in prostitution and have been forced into different types of manual labor, without pay or protection. Trafficking in persons is a modern-day form of slavery, and it is the largest manifestation of slavery today.” A PRESENTATION BY THE RCIA TEAM OPEN TO ALL…YOU ARE INVITED TO EXPLORE…“Was Jesus Politically Correct? Consider coming to this gathering… What do you think? As our year draws to a close, the RCIA Team from Our Lady of the Mountain/St. Marks would like to invite you to join us for a one night seminar entitled “Was Jesus Politically Correct? April 13, 2016, 7-9 pm, OLM Parish Center. WHY WE ARE CATHOLIC… We are Catholic because we believe: By his obedience to Mary and Joseph, as well as by his humble work during the long years in Nazareth, Jesus gives us the example of holiness in the daily life of family and work. From the beginning of his public life, at his baptism, Jesus is the “Servant”, wholly consecrated to the redemptive work that he will accomplish by the “baptism” of his Passion. The temptation in the desert shows Jesus, the humble Messiah, who triumphs over Satan by his total adherence to the plan of salvation willed by the Father - The Catechism of the Catholic Church 564-566. A THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: AN EXCERPT FROM THE IMITATION OF CHRIST -THOMAS À KEMPIS "Love is a strong force — a great good in every way; it alone can make our burdens light, and alone it bears in equal balance what is pleasing and displeasing. It carries a burden and does not feel it; it makes all that is bitter taste sweet. ... Nothing is sweeter than love, nothing higher, nothing stronger, nothing larger, nothing more joyful, nothing fuller, nothing better in heaven or on earth; for love is born of God and can find its rest only in God above all He has created.”

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) works to be a voice of hope for those on the margins of society who experience the

realities of living in poverty. CCHD supports programs to heal the wounds of crime and violence, advocate for more just policies, protect God’s creation, and develop strong communities. Your donation to CCHD will help build a society where all have a voice and all know their inherent dignity. Often, when juveniles are arrested, their record follows them their

whole lives, decreasing their chances of finding gainful employment and increasing their chances of re-offending. Together with the Catholic bishops, groups like the Direct Action and Research Training Center (DART) in Miami are working to reduce the number of juvenile arrests, giving children a real chance at success. Thanks to a strategic national grant from CCHD, Dart is working with school and law

enforcement officials to decrease the number of school-based arrests and promote alternative, constructive interventions that give children a second chance at their future. Because of their work, school systems are now able to implement restorative justice practices affecting over 65,000 students and resulting in a decrease in suspensions and arrests.

This collection is the primary source of funding for CCHD’s many anti-poverty education programs and grants, like the one that supports DART. Funding from the collection offers new hope every year to those living in poverty throughout the United States. Please remember, 25% of the collection’s proceeds stay here in our diocese helping our Father English Community Center, Hope House, Straight & Narrow and the

Hispanic Information Center to fight poverty in our communities and defend the dignity of our neighbors. For more information about the collection for CCHD and the groups it funds, please visit www.usccb.org/cchd Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Arthur J. Serratelli, S.T.D., S.S.L., D.D.
