CRITICAL CARE PROCEDURAL ANATOMY PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:This portion of the Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference is for transport crew members who wish to update and practice critical care techniques that will enhance their ability to provide the best possible care to patients who are most in need. The program offers state-of-the-art updates on clinical procedures. The didactic sessions include topics on emergent airway management, surgical airway management, chest tube insertion and management and pericardiocentesis, ventilation assessment and ventilator management, ventilator assist devices, intraosseous vascular access, and tourniquets and control of bleeding.
Educational Objectives:At the completion of the Critical Care Procedural Anatomy Program participants should know or be able to:
• Demonstrate understanding and hands-on skills practice for critical care procedures to include central line insertion, chest tube insertion, intraosse-ous access, ventilator management and surgical airway (cricothyroidotomy).
• List the indications, contraindications, success rates and complications from the use of these devices and techniques used in the emergency treatment of the critically ill and/or injured patient.
The Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference is designed to address topics pertinent to the prehospital and emergency care of the critically ill and injured patient. Physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists and allied healthcare professionals will be provided information that offers them a deeper understanding of the essentials of care required for the complex patient requiring critical care air and ground transport. Lectures will be presented that will help participants develop leadership skills.
Educational Objectives:At the completion of this conference participants should know or be able to:
• Use state-of-the-art information to enhance and influence their clinical practice in the critical care air and ground transport envi-ronment, increase their skills, and influence their awareness of the unique environment in which they deliver medical care.
• Describe PEA, PEEP, and how to solve a cascading problem – prehospital anticoag-ulation reversal.
• Discuss pediatric trauma on the fly, pediat-ric airway management, high flow cannula for the pediatric patient, treatment and care of critically ill newborns and young infants, and the case of the changing MOI.
• Describe training the limbic system for high performance, the normalization of deviance, and quit making yourself look foolish and your patients look worse.
• Review the 2018 critical care literature update, the 2018 version for handing a medical error, malpractice avoidance for the flight professional, and first hand experience with concussion.
• Describe perimortem cesarean delivery in the HEMS setting, HELLP!, and video laryngoscopy – why should I care?
• Discuss high-risk heart disease, stroke assessment, recent advance-ments in HEMS fluid resuscitation, and RVAD vs. Air.
• Can we give them the finger yet?, Molly and the music festival, a resuscitationist’s guide to PreOx and ApOx, and is the answer really always ketamine?
X SCIENTIFIC FORUMThe 17th Annual Scientific Forum is sponsored by AMPA, ASTNA and IAFCCP. Posters will be presented and reviewed on April 9th and an Outstanding Research Award will be given prior to the opening General Session on April 10th. Our goal is to nurture and provide an appropriate forum for research in air and ground medical transport.
X CCTMC PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
CRITICAL CARE TRANSPORT MEDICINE CONFERENCE ULTRASOUND WORKSHOPThis 4-hour ultrasound course focuses primarily on the use of point-of-care ultrasound in the critically ill patient. Using a step-by-step approach, learners will be taught a shock protocol that will allow them to quickly diagnose a wide variety of pathologic conditions. The lecture portion discusses essential physics and knobology and the use of ultrasound to evaluate the critically ill patient at the bedside, and is followed by a hands-on practice session.
Educational Objectives:At the completion of the Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference Ultrasound Workshop participants should know or be able to:
• Demonstrate proper machine settings/ image acquisition.
• Describe sonographic findings of the hemopericardium, hemoperitoneum, hemothoraces, pneumothoraces, and right heart strain, pericardial tamponade and acute valvular insufficiency.
• Describe sonographic findings of catastrophic intra-abdominal conditions (pneumoperitoneum, pneumatosis, pneumobilia, emphysematous infection).
• Demonstrate an eFAST examination.
• Describe sonographic findings of abdominal aortic aneurysms, as well as proximal lower extremity DVT.
• Demonstrate catastrophic abdominal scanning protocol, and 2-point lower extremity compression examination.

Back Again! CCTMC SIM Tournament of Champions2018 marks the second annual CCTMC SIM Tournament of Champions. Up to five teams will compete in two rounds of simulated patient encounters and other challenges to exhibit their critical care knowledge and skills. Round one begins after Monday’s opening session, continuing for the remainder of the afternoon. Round two begins after Tuesday’s general session, continuing until midafternoon. Winners will be announced prior to Wednesday’s closing session.
Teams will consist of two providers and a substitute who can take the place of one of the providers as needed. All team members must be actively practicing critical care transport providers and must be registered attendees of CCTMC. Team members will have plenty of time to enjoy other conference offerings while they are not competing. E-mail [email protected] if your team feels up to the challenge.
