Study Abroad Week Study Abroad Week is a week-long event comprised of 30-minute webinars and in-person opportunities for students, parents, faculty, and staff to learn more about studying or interning abroad. International Career Panel The International Career Panel provides students with an opportunity to network and hear several early-career professionals discuss the international elements in their roles representing various careers (e.g., law, business, government, not-for-profit, education, etc.). Panelists speak about their experiences and offer valuable advice to those about to enter the job market and pursue work in internationally-engaged fields. Representatives from UNC Charlotte's Career Center are also on-sight to provide brief resume reviews. The Office of International Programs and The Magellan Society, the young professional branch of the World Affairs Council of Charlotte, sponsor the annual event. Is it specific competencies of a discipline written within a global context or is it a broader, more esoteric set of competencies that learners should be able to understand, reflect upon, and act on? Join OIP and the Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars for the sixth and final session of the webinar sessions offered by NAFSA: Association of International Educators to our UNC Charlotte community. Short Term Study Abroad Program Development Workshop The Office of Education Abroad will hold an informational workshop for UNC Charlotte faculty members interested in learning how to develop short-term study abroad programs. Faculty members interested in developing a short-term study abroad program during the 2019 calendar year or later are encouraged to attend. The workshop will cover the importance of short-term programming, faculty roles, working with the Office of Education Abroad, program considerations, as well as program design and implementation. Please join us to learn more about how you can lead a group of students abroad. We ask that interested faculty please register in advance for the session of interest so that we can plan accordingly.

Country-Culture Workshop: China The China Country-Culture workshop is a great opportunity to increase your knowledge about China and learn about the needs of our Chinese students at UNC Charlotte. Global Perspective Series: Promoting Global Education through Film Now in its 6th year, the International Film Festival (IFF) organized by the Department of Languages and Culture Studies and the language club provides students opportunities to expand their worldview by attending and discussing a wide variety of international films. The 2017 faculty International Education Award recipient, Dr. Michèle Bissière, the founder and coordinator of the annual IFF, will talk about the history of the festival, mention some of its highlights (including opportunities for student engagement), and share plans for the future. Participants will be invited to provide feedback and new ideas to take the IFF to the next level. Please RSVP at [email protected] to assist with our planning.

Study Abroad Niner International Photo Exhibit Opening Reception The Office of Education Abroad is proud to present the 9th annual Niner International Study Abroad Photo Exhibit. The exhibit will feature the winning student images from around the world showcasing our study abroad alumni in four categories: Portrait, Landscape, Self-Portrait, and Defining Moment. A special unjudged category of the "Traveling 49ers" demonstrating Niner Pride around the world is also on display. Join OIP for the opening reception on Wednesday, May 3 in the Student Union Art Gallery. The exhibit will run from April 30, 2018 – May 25, 2018. Stop by to see the world through the eyes of our Niner-Inter-Nationals!

43rd Annual UNC Charlotte International Festival The 43rd Annual UNC Charlotte International Festival will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM in and around the Barnhardt Student Activity Center. UNC Charlotte’s longest running tradition continues to attract more than 16,000 attendees each year to experience the sights, sounds, dances, foods, and cultures of the world.

Save the date and plan on spending a couple hours or the whole day wandering through tents of brightly-colored displays, tasting authentic cuisine from around the world, and enjoying an atmosphere of song, dance and story. Additional details are available on the International Festival site.

Opportunities for faculty, administrators, and students are now available:

Faculty Fulbright US Scholars Awards Application Deadline: Varies, usually August 1 The Fulbright Scholar Program offers nearly 500 teaching, research or combination teaching/research awards in over 125 countries. Opportunities are available for college and university faculty and administrators. In addition to several new program models designed to meet the changing needs of U.S. academics and professionals, Fulbright is offering more opportunities for flexible, multi-country grants.

Student Fulbright Competition Application Deadline: Wednesday, August 15 Please inform your students that the 2019-2020 awards are now posted. Students interested in applying for a Fulbright Program, which provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant opportunities abroad, can start their application beginning April 2, 2018. Applicants should apply by UNC Charlotte's internal campus deadline of 5:00pm August 15, 2018.

NOW HIRING: Office of Intercultural & Educational Experiences (OIEE) Interest Session: Wednesday, April 19 | 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM | CHHS 207 Application Deadline: Sunday, April 22 The Office of Intercultural and Educational Experiences (OIEE) within OIP is looking for undergraduate students eager to work with international visitors on our short-term programs as student Program Assistants. This unique position allows students to gain valuable leadership skills and intercultural competencies through leading cultural experiences in the Charlotte area. OIEE Student Program Assistants also participate in orientations, farewell events, and much more! Applications are open until Sunday, April 22. FINAL CALL | Now Recruiting: Global Engagement Scholars Program Spring 2018 Deadline: Tuesday, May 1 The UNC Charlotte Global Engagement Scholars Program (GESP) offers global awareness academic and co-curricular opportunities to a wide and diverse group of students from all academic disciplines, especially those who may not otherwise become globally engaged. Today, employers are looking for graduates who have special skills that demonstrate that they are prepared for the challenges of the 21st century. Such skills include the ability to work in multicultural teams and in diverse contexts. GESP gives students access to international resources and the international community at UNC Charlotte. The program includes three components (academic, co-curricular and international experience) that culminate in a final portfolio project. Students should be able to complete the program in two years or less. For more information, please visit the OGEE website.

FINAL CALL | Now Recruiting: Global Gateways Fall 2018 Residents Official Deadline: Tuesday, May 1 The Global Gateways House is an all-female residence hall located on campus in Greek Village (House 9). The goal of the Global Gateways program is to create a dynamic, fun, internationally-focused living environment where residents can engage in and learn about the world together. What better way for students to learn about other cultures than to live in a global community with intentional cultural programming? The Global Gateways house is currently accepting UNC Charlotte female student applications for the 2018-2019 academic year. Please encourage female students to apply for this unique opportunity.
