30 Season’s Diary

31 About QHA

Welcome to our Summer Season! Here at Queen’s Hall Arts we know that working in partnership is vital to delivering great art and culture. This season will see the fruits of many of these collaborations, everything from the wonderful Hexham Book Festival to our celebration of youth music in partnership with Sage Gateshead at the Hexham Gathering.

Our partnerships with venues in the North East will help us stage Confessions of a Cockney Temple Dancer in Hexham, a funny and engaging show which will be at Trinity Methodist Church. We are also delighted to be working with Northumberland’s own November Club in bringing a Hexham story to life at the Queen’s Hall.

There is a wide range of great family theatre this summer including the award-winning musical HONK! and the witty Bird’s Nest Billy. We believe that all children should be able to benefit from these wonderful experiences. Our sponsors, the Beaumont Hotel and Patricia J Arnold Accountants, are helping us reach new audiences and raise money to ensure that children in the Tyne Valley get a visit to the Queen’s Hall.

One of the central roles of any Arts Centre is to provide a space for everyone to participate in art. At Queen’s Hall this is one of our guiding principles and there are lots of opportunities to come and join in - from our Summer Theatre School to our Earth Citizen Day, from dance workshops to bidding in our ART with HEART Auction.

We look forward to you joining us very soon.

Queen’s Hall Arts & Folkworks present

¯

Hexham Gathering is a celebration of youth music, song and dance; a full day of music, folk and fun for all the family.

Hexham Gathering 2019

Kathryn Tickell & The DarkeningKathryn Tickell & The Darkening embrace that global perspective, bringing some of the oldest Northumbrian tunes and songs throbbing to life, intermingling them with new material and binding it all together with contemporary resonance and attitude.

Fresh sounds merge with ancient influences. Dazzling duets from Kathryn’s Northumbrian pipes and Amy’s accordion contrast with the riffs and rhythms of Kieran’s octave mandolin. Intrepid world-traveller Kate adds her fearless explorations

whilst the inventive use of drums and percussion unites the ensemble.

Niamh BoadleSinger, bodhran player and guitarist Niamh impressed us when she played here with the band Northern Company so we’ve asked her back!

Tam LinQHA’s Youth folk band will open the show with their beautiful and mesmerising arrangements of traditional tunes.

Tickets £20 | £15 (under 18s)
