April normally heralds both Easter and Anzac Day – but an early Easter this year pushed the Easter bunny into doing his rounds early. Whenever Easter falls, it does provide an excellent excuse to indulge in a chocolate fix!

CLUB HAPPENINGSClub CEO Greg Kearins had a successful knee operation and is currently recuperating. All is going well and we expect his return about the end of the month. Jon has stepped up to run the Club in Greg’s absence, ably assisted by Rod Hethrington who is filling in as Operations Manager.

Peter Dove has resigned from the Board at Club Willoughby and has taken a position as member of staff.

In 2016 Club Willoughby is sponsoring the Gordon Ruby Club and looks

One hundred years ago, the first Anzac Day commemoration was held in Sydney 25th April 1916. More than 4000 returned soldiers marched, carrying the union Jack, the Australian flag and the banner of the Returned Soldiers Association.

Following the marches were fifty cars (when there weren’t many cars on the road) bearing disabled veterans. Over 60,000 people attended the service in the Domain after which the soldiers were treated to a luncheon at the Town Hall. In the same year, smaller marches and services were held in cities, towns and suburbs throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Willoughby Legion Ex-Services Club (“Club Willoughby”) and the Willoughby Legion Sub Branch will be holding their annual Memorial Service at Obelisk at 7am on Monday 25th April.
