How We Work
The cinema is maintained, programmed and run byvolunteers. To volunteer you can join the generalvolunteers list by sending a blank email to:[email protected] could also come to a volunteer induction whichhappens on the second Saturday in each month at11am and the first Thursday at 6pm. Open meet-ings that run the cinema are held on Mondays at6pm and are explained further on our website.
The Bar
Our bar is open before and after scree-ings. Our delicious drinks and snacks aremostly from local and/or small producers& suppliers that we want to support, in-cluding Allendale Brewery, Wylam Brew-ery, Fentimans, Royal Mile Whiskies,Jack Cain Spirits and Suma Workers Co-op.
Prices
To enjoy an event at the Star & Shadowyou need to be a member. This costs £1for the year. Films generally cost £5 or£3.50 for concessions. No one will beturned away from screenings for lack offunds. The Star & Shadow welcomespeople seeking asylum, for whom thereis no entry charge. Prices for gigs andevents vary and can be checked in thebrochure or website.
Finding Us
We are at the top of Stepney Bank,Ouseburn, Newcastle opposite the Tan-ners pub by the city end of Byker bridge.Manors Metro is a 5 minutes walk awayand the city centre about 10 minutes.We’ve got a cycle park inside and busesthat stop outside are no.s 12, 22, 39, 40,62, 63, 1 & 2.
Survival
Our core running costs are predomi-nantly covered by our own generatedincome via the bar and events. We alsogratefully receive funding from Newcas-tle City Council - this grant will finish in2014. We try to keep the cinema cheapand accessible, but we are very happyto receive extra donations from thosewho can afford them.

How We Work
The cinema is maintained, programmed and run byvolunteers. To volunteer you can join the generalvolunteers list by sending a blank email to:[email protected] could also come to a volunteer induction whichhappens on the second Saturday in each month at11am and the first Thursday at 6pm. Open meet-ings that run the cinema are held on Mondays at6pm and are explained further on our website.
The Bar
Our bar is open before and after scree-ings. Our delicious drinks and snacks aremostly from local and/or small producers& suppliers that we want to support, in-cluding Allendale Brewery, Wylam Brew-ery, Fentimans, Royal Mile Whiskies,Jack Cain Spirits and Suma Workers Co-op.
Prices
To enjoy an event at the Star & Shadowyou need to be a member. This costs £1for the year. Films generally cost £5 or£3.50 for concessions. No one will beturned away from screenings for lack offunds. The Star & Shadow welcomespeople seeking asylum, for whom thereis no entry charge. Prices for gigs andevents vary and can be checked in thebrochure or website.

We are at the top of Stepney Bank,Ouseburn, Newcastle opposite the Tan-ners pub by the city end of Byker bridge.Manors Metro is a 5 minutes walk awayand the city centre about 10 minutes.We’ve got a cycle park inside and busesthat stop outside are no.s 12, 22, 39, 40,62, 63, 1 & 2.
Survival
Our core running costs are predomi-nantly covered by our own generatedincome via the bar and events. We alsogratefully receive funding from Newcas-tle City Council - this grant will finish in2014. We try to keep the cinema cheapand accessible, but we are very happyto receive extra donations from thosewho can afford them.
