Important Dates

• These dates are in your Oxford Brochure:• May 15th: Mandatory preliminary meeting

and reception (for students only) at BSC at 2:00 PM.

• We will meet at WHS on the street side school entrance promptly at 1:00 PM.

Departure

• We will have an evening departure from Logan airport on July 5th. Plan to arrive UNUSUALLY early – at least three hours before flight time (4:00PM).

• We will arrive on July 6th and be met by a chartered bus that will take us to the college.

• If you are taking a different flight just check the arrival of American Airlines (Flight # 108Q) : Leaving Boston Logan on July 5, 2011, at 8:05 pm and arriving London Heathrow at 7:45 am July 6th

Important Details

• You must carry a passport with you at all times.• Make a copy to keep in a separate place.• Have your health insurance card with you at all

times.• Students are required to attend all scheduled

classes and program sponsored trips. • Report to Ms. Davenport if you are not feeling

well.• If you administer self-injections, you must have a

sharps disposal box in your room.

Emergency Care

• Treatment is free at any hospital emergency room.

• In the event that Ms. Davenport or Wadham College official needs to assist in health care decisions for a student under eighteen (18). Please provide a note (today) that gives your permission.

• Every reasonable attempt to reach a parent will be made.

Telephone Contact

• Your student will call, email (or Skype?)you upon arrival.

• The dorm room phones can receive outside calls, and students can call other rooms and extensions throughout the college.

• Phone cards are available for 5 pounds at the Porter’s Lodge for out of college calls and can be used from the dorm room phone.

• There is a pay-phone at the college.

Mrs. Davenport’s Contact info

• Mrs. Davenport will give her room telephone number to students when she arrives, and your child can pass that info onto you.

• You may leave a message for your child or Mrs. Davenport with the Porter by calling the college.

• A message will be posted on the message board at the entrance to the quad.

Meals

• You must be at all meals.• Breakfast is served every morning at 8:15 AM.• Dinners are Monday thru Friday at 7:00 PM.• If you cannot make breakfast due to illness, call Mrs. Davenport by

7:30 AM. The attendance “safety” check and announcements take place at breakfast.

• If you plan to leave campus and eat out for a scheduled dinner, you must notify Mrs. Davenport at breakfast so that she may inform the chef. So plan ahead.

• The college staff regards a missed meal as disrespectful and wasteful.

• If you are a vegetarian let us know; you then will be expected to eat vegetarian throughout, as special meals are prepared.

• Any dietary requirements? Allergies?

Behavior Protocol

• Entering the campus at night• Propriety – drinking (no alcohol in dorms)• noise level• Respect• Quiet• Leaving the campus for an overnight. Parents

must contact Mrs. Davenport.• No parties in rooms• If you are sick, contact Mrs. Davenport

immediately.

Question – Answer What to bring…

• electrical converter (square prongs), international cell phone or service, lots of batteries for your camera (and film?)

• Clothes to suit a variety of temperatures, semi-formal attire – jacket and tie for men, “dressy” outfit for women

• lap top: internet access in dorm rooms; an internet cable can be purchased at the Porter’s Lodge for 5 pounds

• Visa and Master Card are accepted almost everywhere. (American Express – You can “leave home without it!”)

• ATM – Bank of America is best.

• Tylenol or Advil i.e, pain relievers, antihistamines, Tums, band aids, small sewing kit, vitamins

• One spiral notebook, pens, USB Flash drive

• Rain-wear (plastic hooded poncho)• Hooded sweatshirt (you may want to buy

an Oxford Sweatshirt)• Umbrella (small tote-size)• Two pairs of sneakers, walking shoes• Sunscreen• Sunglasses• Eyeglasses and medications/prescriptions

What not to bring

• expensive jewelry or valuable items (unless you have them with you at all times)

• a lot of cash – ATM one block away• travelers checks• Electric razors, hair dryers – they tend to blow out even

with a converter.• Hair dryers are relatively inexpensive at the local stores.

Pitch in and share one or two.• Too many clothes! Pack smart and light. Save room for

purchases. There is a laundry facility.• You can buy a laundry card at the Porter’s Lodge.

Dress code for classes, trips and dining hall

Ladies: Modesty should guide your clothes selections!

• no midriff bearing outfits or revealing necklines. no short-shorts

Gentlemen: No caps in dining hall or class

• no sloppy, worn out jeans.• no tee shirts with offensive messages.

Be Leaders and Role Models

• Do not let the behavior or dress of the “traditional” college students guide your choices.

• We are invited to participate in this program, and we do not want to do anything to jeopardize our continued invitation.

• So, if you see some students with caps in the dining hall or inappropriately dressed, do not view that as permission for you to do the same.

Payment

• The cost of the program is $4950.00• The coat of the flight is: $1,074.00• (subject to change by May 15th due to oil

prices – either way)• If you have frequent flyer miles, you can

make your own arrangements.• Payment to college is due by May 15th.• Make checks payable to Bridgewater

The BSU Orientation

• Meet the director, Dr. William Smith, and other students.

• Remember, you ARE college students when you attend the program.

• Introduce yourself and say what college you’ll be attending.

• Program overview, expectations, trips• Things to do, etc…
