Twice a year, at the vernal equinox (spring) and the au-

tumnal equinox (fall), the sun sets directly behind Decep-

tion Pass bridge as viewed from the old car ferry road at

the east end of Cornet Bay on Whidbey Island. If you’re

there at the right time and the weather is good and there

are clouds in the sky you get treated to a dramatic majes-

tic sunset suitable for capture on your camera. Having

experienced the spring 2011 edition of this photo opportunity we knew we had to go back in

the fall. Five of us, Steve, Janet, Sonya, David V and Norm, ventured fourth this time and

rendezvoused in the parking lot of the Cornet Bay marina to begin our adventure. The intro-

ductory photo of us was taken by Norm.

The evening was warm, the sky bright, the waters of Deception Pass calm and the tide par-

tially out granting us access to the beach area adjacent to the road. There were just enough

clouds in the sky to pick up the light of the setting sun. Maybe not the majestic dramatic sun-

set we were looking for but well worth the trip. Below is a sampling of images taken by the

participants:

FIELD TRIP TO MT RAINIER PAGE 1

Mt. Rainier at Sunrise from Sunrise – By: David VanKeuren It’s a 2.5 hour drive, including a quick stop at the McDonald’s drive through in Enumclaw, from my house in Lake Stevens to Sunrise in Mt. Rainier National Park. To get here at sunrise we had to leave at 4:00 AM – still very very dark out. The vista when you arrive is spectacular (and at 6:30 AM parking is not an issue). Below are images taken by club members during outings to Mt. Rainier.
