Lakeville South’s student of the month is Shea Bou-gie, her parents are David and Kara Barnes and Joe and Heidi Bougie.

Shea is a leader in our DECA program, swim team, and in the Lakeville South Community. She is an outstanding student, athlete, but most impor-tantly Shea is just a great person. Shea’s character can best be summed up by her swim coach Rick Ringeisen:

“Shea is one of the finest individuals I have coached in my career. Shea leads both by example and vo-cally. Shea trains hard to be her best when the team needs her. She is unselfish and consistently places the goals of the team above herself. Shea’s greatest qualities are that she brings joy and sunshine wher-ever she goes. People light up when they see her. The reason that happens is that Shea is one of those exceptional people who make everyone around her better. When you consider Shea’s intelligence, dedi-cation and abilities it all adds up to making her what I call a member of the 1% club! The 1% club consist of the top 1% of all people in the world.

It has truly been my pleasure to coach Shea Bou-gie!”

Congratulations to senior, Alex Heuer, as Lakeville South’s Rotary Student of the Month. Alex has been a great contributing citizen while attending Lakev-ille South. Alex is the leader of the Drama Technical Crew and Musical activities facilitating sound and lighting for nearly every production at LSHS. Alex is a pioneer in our STEM academy at Lakeville South High School. He helped plan and develop the STEM Academy design and production rooms and recently completed a weather station independent study project with Mr. Just. He is currently working on his STEM capstone project with John Berg from Terradata. Alex has a very promising future in the engineering field. He is undecided as to which university he will continue his studies. Another notable: Alex is a Na-tional Merit Finalist.

Lakeville South DECA students, Geena Gillen, Taylor Garvey, Parker Schultz, and Maya Kramer helped with the creation of a convenience store for residents and visitors of Highview Hills, a Senior Living Community located at 20150 Highview Avenue in Lakeville, Minnesota. These students worked with Steve Wilson, Housing Director in every phase of the development from meeting with the residents, surveying residents on which products to stock, recruiting and training resident-volunteers to

GOOD NEWS!Lakeville South Choirs having a great year! The choirs at LS have had a tremendous 2015-2016 school year. They recently received a ded-ication to a newly published “Editor’s Choice” work by Steve Sandberg (Lakev-ille resident) titled Laudate Dominum. At Region 1AA contest we received a “Best in Site” for Encore Women, and 4 students with perfect scores (Clara Bauer, Christian Brott, Mal-lory Lewis and a trio of students (Maddie Market, Clara Bauer and Tori Meier.) All our ensembles received superior ratings (Encore, Harmony and the Tritones) At the state level we have received recognition; we have had two students selected for this year’s Minnesota All-State Choir: Maddie Market and Erin Petersen. We have had 2 stu-dents selected for the ACDA-MN Honor Choir: Madeline Lee and Lynne O’Neill. Encore was re-cently selected to sing the National Anthem/God Bless America for a Minnesota Twins game this summer. Finally, our Concert Chorale had the opportunity to collaborate with some very fine musical ensembles for concerts -the MN Orches-tra (at Hosanna!) and the Dakota Valley Sympho-ny and Chorus at the Ames Center (Burnsville Performing Arts Center.

Congratulations to Alli Kennon! Alli placed 3rd in the Southern District of the National Qualifiers tournament in Dramatic Interpretation and will be competing at the national tourna-ment this summer in Salt Lake City. She will be the first speaker from Lakeville South to ever compete in Drama at the national tournament.

LSHS Student Earns Eagle Scout Rank!Keegan Sublette of Boy Scout Troop 269, sponsored by Lakeville VFW Post 210, has earned the Ea-gle Scout rank. This is the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America and is earned by less than 4 per-

cent of Scouts nationally. Sublette is a senior at Lakeville South High School. For his Eagle Scout project, he planned and led construction of new shelving for our high school’s satellite Commu-nity Food Shelf. He is the son of David and Tami Sublette of Lakeville. Sublette will be recognized for this achievement at his Court of Honor later this spring.
