New antenna systems can now be added to crowded multiple-tenanttowerswith minimal space! SnapStak snap-in hangers can be stackedup to three deep when using 1/2" and 7/8" coaxial cable, or twodeep when using 1-1/4" and 1-5/8" coaxial cable. Each hangeraccommodates one run of HELIAX cable.
The distinctive, self-contained design of the SnapStak stackable snap-inhanger eliminates the need for mounting hardware and installation tools.This simplifies coaxial cable installations, lowering both time and cost.
Retention tabs on the spring fork makeSnapStak hangers highly resistant topop-out, so installations are robust andsecure. Yet, specially designed todampen vibrations, SnapStak hangers
do not have a rigid hold on the tower,so motion caused by wind is simplyabsorbed. This reduces movementdown the coaxial cable, greatlyreducing stress on the connections atthe jumper cable, antenna, or device.
SnapStak hangers can be mounted directly to thetower support system, or used in conjunction with a variety of mountingaccessories for rooftops, buildings and water towers. The SnapStakhanger installs in 3/4" holes in support structures 1/8" (0.120" to0.150") thick. The stainless steel construction of the SnapStak snap-inhanger provides exceptional integrity, even in highly corrosiveenvironments and extreme weather conditions. Compact installations save

Specially designed pliers make installation andremoval of SnapStak snap-in hangers extremelyeasy. The spring loaded pliers are designedwith a hook that holds and spreads the hangeropen to slip easily over the cable. Standard Hangers and Hardware
Standard hangers are designed for easy installation. The clamp lockingbolt and nut are pre-assembled and captivated to minimize installationlabor. Proper tension is easy to determine. The hanger is simply tighteneduntil there is a 5/16" gap between the clamp legs. The pre-drilled holefor 3/8" or 1/2" mounting hardware and slots for round memberadapter clamps further simplify installation. Imperial kits include 3/8" fillister-head bolts, lockwashers, and nuts for attachment of standard hangersto drilled tower members. The metric kit includes M10bolts and lock washers for use with metric angleadapters.

Standard Weatherproofing Kitfor Connectors and Antennas
The application of sealing
materials to antenna cableconnections protects themfrom weather conditions.These include moisturepenetration and looseningof connections fromvibrations caused by strongwinds. Andrew Corporationrecommends weatherproofing these connections with standardweatherproofing tapes such as butyl and plastic electrical tapes.

This kit provides an additional moisture seal for cable connections.
It also prevents loosening of connections from vibration or other externalstresses, which would eventually allow moisture penetration. The sealedconnection is suitable for typical exposed and buried cable applications.

Installation Tips
When applied, the tape must be above 32F (0C) to ensureadhesion. Keep tape warm by carrying in coat pockets.
Do not stretch the tape. Apply only enough tension to providea smooth wrap.
Smooth each wrapped layer with your hands to ensurefull adhesion.
Do not pull the tape to tear tape always cut it.(Pulled tape eventually unravels, decreasing protection.)
Add extra final layers of tape in warmer climates where therewill be long exposure to damaging ultra violet (UV) rays. Twoor three extra layers of tape will provide additional UV protection.
When wrapping tape, overlap the tape to half-width.
Ensure vent or drain holes at the bottom of the antennaor device are not covered with weatherproofing tape.

Cable Reconditioning andFoam Separating Tools
These tools perform two tasks in one operation: (1)
recondition the cut edge of the outer conductor to itsoriginal shape and dimension and (2) separate thefoam from the outer conductor. This operation forms thecable end for precise entry into a one-piece connectorand proper attachment. All of the tools except FST-158 have an innerconductor guide pin on both sides of the tool, one for each cable type.The larger pin is for LDF cable and the smaller pin is for VXL cable.

Versatile Grounding Lug
Transmission Line GroundingA well designed system uses grounding kits to provide a bond betweenthe cable and the tower/earth ground system. One grounding kit isrecommended at tower top, tower bottom, at 200 ft (60 m) intervals (whereapplicable), and at the entrance to the equipment shelter. Andrew solidcopper grounding kits have passed United States Air Force lightningsimulation tests and meet MIL-STD-188-124A. The non-braided solid copperconstruction of all Andrew grounding kits eliminates corrosion caused bymoisture retention and wicking. A heat shrink tube protects the cableterminal connection.
Crimping Tool for SureGroundand Standard Grounding
The crimping tool is used to attach crimp-on lugs for standard andSureGround series grounding kits. Not required for kits with factoryattached lugs.

Standard Grounding KitsOffer Easy Installation for System Protection
Standard Grounding Kits are traditional solutionsfor lightning protection and are also well suitedfor elliptical waveguide installations. Onegrounding kit is recommended at the towertop, tower bottom, at 200 ft (60 m) intervals,and at the entrance to the equipment shelter.Standard Grounding Kits (204989 and
241088 series) require few steps to install andinclude easy-to-follow instructions. Proper tensioningis ensured by an expansion section that provides visual indicationthat the strap is secured.
Series 204989 and 241088 kits include a solid copper strap riveted tothe grounding wire, coiling tool for proper tightening, universal groundinglug, tower attachment hardware, and a two-part tape weatherproofingsystem. Field-attachable, crimp-on grounding lugs require a crimping tool(not included).

This pre-punched solid copper groundbar assembly simplifies mounting andgrounding of surge arrestors inside thebuilding. Instead of relying onindividual wires or field-fabricatedtrapeze setups, the Andrew Universal Arrestor Ground Bar Assemblyprovides a uniform mounting and grounding point for surge arrestors andgrounding leads. Quarterwave Stub (QWS) Surge Arrestor Technology
An understanding of the key concepts of quarterwave stub technology andits relationship to lightning transients can be of great benefit to transmissionline system designers and operators. With this understanding, systemdesigners and operators can more fully utilize lightning protection systemsthat use QWS technology as well as understand the critical role multistrikeability plays in lightning protection systems.
Arrestor Plus T-Series Surge Arrestors from Andrew Corporation employquarterwave stub (QWS) technology, a unique design that allowsmicrowave signals to pass unattenuated while shunting the lowerfrequencies associated with lightning-induced transients to ground. Thisproven QWS technology is utilized in APT Arrestor Plus Surge Arrestors.
To understand QWS technology, one needs to understand lightning.The lightning transient is characterized by a current waveform with an
8-microsecond rise time (time to reach 90% of the peak value) anda 20-microsecond decay time (time to decay to 50% of the peak value).Peak currents can reach excessive values, but 50% of all strikes will reachvalues of only 18 kA. It is important to remember that this is onlya laboratory characterization of the lightning transient, but it facilitatesstandardized testing techniques for the industry. Figure 1 depicts an actuallaboratory-generated 8/20 sec waveform that was used to evaluateAndrew Surge Arrestors. For more detailed information regardinglaboratory generated surge waveforms, see IEC 60-2,ANSI-IEEE Std 4-1978, and ANSI C62.1-1984.
The substantial energy associated with lightning transients has frequencycomponents near dc with components of decreasing value of energyextending through 160 kHz.
The effectiveness of surge arrestors is characterized by the throughputenergy and the ability to withstand multiple surges. These characteristicsare readily measurable in a laboratory equipped with the appropriate testequipment. Throughput energy is a measure of the amount of energypassed through the output of the device when the input of the device issubjected to a lightning transient waveform. The throughput energy canbe calculated from the residual voltage waveform using the relationship:
Figure 2 shows the residual output voltage present when an APT SeriesSurge Arrestor was subjected to an actual 8/20 sec waveform with apeak current of 20 kA. In this case, the residual voltage was recordedacross a 50 ohm load. The resulting throughput energy was 72microjoules. The objective of the surge arrestor is to minimize the
throughput energy to a manageable level. Most microwave transmittersand receivers used in todays wireless systems are capable ofwithstanding throughput energy levels of 10 millijoules or less.
The ability to withstand multiple strikes is also an important measureof surge arrestor merit. Multistrike ability is measured by subjecting theQWS surge arrestors to repeated surges and observing if the arrestorscontinue to properly function or show signs of degradation. No evidence
of failure or degradation was observed after subjecting the AndrewArrestor Plus Surge Arrestors to over 100 strikes at 50 kA peak currentusing an 8/20 sec waveform. This level of reliability is essentialin protecting todays telecommunications systems from the potentialof damaging lightning transients.
Arrestor Plus QWS Surge Arrestors are carefully designed and testedto provide a low impedance path to ground for any lightning inducedtransient energy present on the center conductor of the transmission line.These surge arrestors are designed to withstand multiple strikes of the mossevere surges. The unique attributes of QWS surge arrestors are madepossible by careful design and selection of the geometry andcross-sectional area of the conductors that make up the shorting stub.QWS designs result in extremely l
