AQA GCSE General Studies – Paper 1
What does it involve?
Part 1
• Objective multiple choice questions…
• Don’t leave any blank – if you put nothing, you get nothing! It is not like in some subjects where you are penalised for the wrong answer.
• Examples of the multi-choice questions are shown overleaf
Examples – multi-choice objective questions…
Paper 1, section 2
• After your 20 multi-choice questions you will then be faced with a structured section based on source material. Where possible refer to the source material. Part of this section will involve you then writing a longer response, usually ten marks, weighing up the different arguments expressed in the source material. You do need an opinion, but remember that the best responses always provide balance and carefully assess both sides!
Paper 1, section 3
Usually the make or break section for most students. This gives you the chance to answer one of three essay questions. Examples from previous years are shown clearly on the next few slides. Consider carefully which you would choose. What would you argue? Remember that you need an argument and need to support your ideas with examples from real life. Substantiate your points and give evidence to support your ideas!
Now think about how you might answer these…
