Aqualink Systems
General Description:
Reclaim water is an ideal environment for growing bacteria which can create plugging and odor problems. Typically, anaerobic bacteria (bacteria that grow in the absence of oxygen) will grow beneath the settled solids in the reclaim tank. This type of bacteria produces hydrogen sulfide and methane that has an odor similar to rotten eggs. A properly designed reclaim system must both remove solids and provide biological / odor control. The PurWater Aqualink system and its Advanced Oxidation Process elevates the process of water recovery to an entirely new level by providing the Professional Carwash Operator with a efficient, cost-effective method of recovering a higher percentage of water by delivering an engineered combination of oxidants to successfully reduce surfactants, bacteria counts and other containments resulting in significantly reducing the need for fresh water and further minimizing sewer discharge. A PurWater reclaim system with the Aqualink takes water from the last compartment of the reclaim tank and treats it further so that the quality is acceptable for re-use in the wash. The PurWater reclaim system also returns a portion of the water back to the reclaim tank to provide biological, odor, and clarity control by utilizing the ozone and Aqualink systems.
Aqualink System:
The Aqualink System consists of two banks of housings and a chemical pump. inside each housing is a mesh filter housing containing bio balls. The water flowing through the bio balls with the addition of the reclaim additive enhances the effects of ozone. The Aqualink is plumbed inline of the reclaim recirculation line which will recirculate water continuously back to the second compartment of the reclaim tank for odor, biological, and clarity control.
System Installation Aqualink systems are designed for easy installation. However, if you should have any questions, please contact us at (916) 978-9990 or (800) 882-8854 in Sacramento, CA. Office hours are 7AM to 5 PM, Pacific Standard Time, Mon-Fri.
Frame:
The system is to be installed in a dry / clean / temperature controlled / covered area. It is not designed to be in the wash bay or outdoors. The frame requires a floor space of 18” wide by 18” deep, with a height of 55”. We recommend a minimum height clearance of 40” from the top of the Aqualink to allow for routine maintenance and inspection. The floor frame should be placed with its back along a wall and should be secured to the wall to prevent movement of the frame. Some models may also have a wall mount frame for the ozone generation system. This wall mount frame needs to set in close proximity of the reclaim unit to allow both electrical and piping connections. The area should be free of excessive moisture which can cause extreme corrosion or electrical failure.
Piping:
Fittings on these systems have some threaded connections which can come loose during shipment. We recommend using Schedule 80 PVC for all connections to the reclaim unit. Rubber hose is NOT acceptable on all lines (rubber is not compatible with ozone). The Aqualink system has two inlet and two outlet 1" ports for ease of installation. Only 1 inlet and 1 outlet will need to be used and the remainder are capped off. The Reclaim system has a recirculation line that will plumb into either 1 of the 2 inlet ports. Then 1 of the 2 outlet ports will need to plumb to the 1" line (stub up) that returns the water back to the second compartment of the reclaim tanks.

Warning!
Hazardous Voltage: Can Shock, Burn or Cause Death.
Disconnect power at main panel before connecting electrical power supply to reclaim unit panel or working on electrical connections.
Ground reclaim unit and Aqualink before connecting to the electrical
power supply. Failure to ground the reclaim or Aqualink unit can cause severe or fatal electrical shock hazard.
Meet National Electrical Code and local codes for wiring.
Follow wiring instructions in this manual when connecting the
Aqualink system to the power supply.

Wiring:
1-Phase power (110V) are required to operate the Aqualink system. The Aqualink system has a 18/3 cable that will require a 7/8" hole drilled into the reclaim box as well as adding the cord grip (supplied) to the reclaim control box. As seen below there are two diagrams on how the Aqualink is wired. Wire Diagram #1 is used for Reclaim systems that do not have the yellow (ozone/oxygen) terminal strip. In this case, the black/hot wire will terminate on Q4 of the logic controller. If your reclaim system has the yellow terminal strip, the Aqualink will wire into the last available hole on the yellow terminal strip. See Wire Diagram #2

Wire Diagram #2
Start-up: Once the Aqualink is plumbed and the power connection has been made, Proceed with starting the Reclaim unit up. (See start-up instructions for the reclaim system). After the Reclaim unit is running make sure that the 4 out of 6 ball valves on the Aqualink System are open. The bottom two ball valves are for drain purposes only, these should be left closed. The Aqualink chemical pump should be powered when the reclaim unit is running. Pressing the power button on the chemical pump may be required. Below are settings for the chemical pump that will need to be setup and may vary depending on how much reclaim additive is required. Typically the chemical pump is set for 6 strokes a minute. Chemical Pump Settings 6 Strokes / Min. = 31 ozs./day (approx. 1 qt./day) 12 Strokes / Min. = 62 ozs./day (approx. 2 qt./day) 18 Strokes / Min. = 93 ozs./day (approx. 3 qt./day) 24 Strokes / Min. = 124 ozs./day (approx. 1 gal./day) Maintenance:
• Once every two weeks the Bio Balls must be cleaned. • Verify that the chemical pump is drawing chemical into the Aqualink. • Also verify that there is enough chemical so the pump / Aqualink will not
run out.
Cleaning the Bio Balls: Once every two weeks the bio balls need to be cleaned. This can be done without shutting the reclaim unit off. On one housing of the Aqualink, simply close the input and output ball valve while leaving the other bank open to allow the recirculation water to still pass through the Aqualink. Now open the corresponding drain ball valve to release the water inside. Remove the housing clamps and housing lid to expose the basket housing the bio balls. Lift the basket out of the housing and without removing the bio balls from the basket, start rinsing them down. Once they are clean, replace the basket back into the housing and move to the other housing. This will require opening the two ball valves on the housing you cleaned and closing the ball valves on the housing you are about to drain. Now Repeat the Process
