1. Project Brief :M/s BASF India Ltd. proposes to put up Innovation Campus Mumbai project facility at their
Turbhe site, Navi Mumbai. The facility contains mainly 3 buildings, viz. Main building, Kilo lab
building, Parking structure, Utility Area and other infrastructure facility like Process water
tank, Fire water tank, Solvent store and pipe rack.
The proposed Main building is Ground + 12 storeys and the approximate built up area is
5,00,000 sq.ft. The building houses various areas like Office, Standard labs, Technology labs,
Application labs, Auditorium and Dining area. The total height of building measured from
ground is 60 m approximately.
The proposed Kilo lab building is ground + 4 storeys structure with a total built up area of
60,000 sq.ft. The building houses stores, leather lab, construction chemicals lab and kilo lab.
The total height of structure measured from ground is 27 m approximately.
The proposed parking building shall be ground + 10 storeys with a car parking for 650 cars
approximately. The height of building measured from ground is 31 m approximately.
The utility area is proposed to be close to the Main building. The various utilities like cooling
tower, DG, transformer, Breaker, STP and rainwater harvesting tank and flushing tank areproposed.
The existing Fire water tank and the existing Process water tank provided presently on the
west side boundary are proposed to be demolished and reconstructed near the east side
boundary. The tanks will be designed for existing + proposed capacity after adding the water
requirements for the proposed buildings.
As the proposed buildings will be located on existing site, various existing structures will also
be demolished. The underground utilities also will be rerouted or removed depending onthe requirements.
This report describes the overall design brief for the systems proposed and to be installed for
Main building. The report will be extended for other structures after conclusion of the
structures.

3. Provision of Future Horizontal / Vertical Expansion:This is covered in the Input summary of individual structures.
4. Geotechnical Observation:The work of soil investigation for tentative SBC is carried out by V.T.GANPULE
GROUND ENGINEERING CONSULTANT, Mumbai. The results are worked out by
observation of two trial pits on site and lab reports of samples collected from the trial
pits. The tentative recommended SBC for first stage of the project is 80 T/m2
at 2.5m
depth from N.G.L. The final SBC to be reconfirmed by bore explorations and lab study
after demolition of existing structures.
5. Design Units:IS metric units are used to design the project.
6. Unit weight of materials used:Material Grade Density Remark
PCC M:20 20 kN/m3
RCC M:75 25 kN/m3
Steel Fe-500 D 78.5 kN/m3 Reinforcement

Siporex - 10 kN/m3 With plaster
7. Method of Design and Conceptualization:The aim of design is to achieve an acceptable probability that the structures
being designed will perform satisfactorily during their intended life as per IS code. The
structures are designed to sustain all the presumed floor loads and have adequate
durability and resistance to the effects of earthquake and fire, for which they are
designed. It shall be further understood that design calculations alone do not produce
a safe, serviceable, durable structure. Suitable materials, good workmanship, quality
control and good supervision are required to translate the designs into structures as
intended by the Design Engineer.

The building is considered without expansion joint, to avoid the issues of
waterproofing and finishing of wide gap from outside and inside.
The structures are designed based on Limit State Method of Design as per IS
code provision.
Main BuildingRefer Input summary for design input details.
The building is RCC framed structure with post tensioned floor; excluding
staircases. Shear walls are provided at various locations to take care of the lateral
forces due to earthquake and wind. The design and analysis is done by using ETAB,
SAFE and ADAPT softwares also standard excel spread sheets are used for foundation
design. Earthquake analysis of building is carried out by Response Spectrum method
by using ETAB software.
8. Grade of Concrete and steel used:Self-compacting M: 75 grade of concrete and Fe 500D steel is considered for
design of the structure.
9. Design Loads:9.1 Dead load:
Dead load includes unit weight/mass of materials, components in a building that
apply to the dead weight in the design of buildings and shall be considered as per IS:
875 (Part 1) 1987 (Reaffirmed: 1997). It includes self-weight, weight of false ceiling,
floor finish and water proofing load etc. Details of dead load on each floor are as per
input summary provided for each of the building/structure.
9.2 Imposed load:
Imposed / live loads shall be considered as per IS: 875 (Part 2) 1987
(Reaffirmed: 1997). However, presence of any heavy equipment in any particular area
needs to be informed to the design engineer and it may require providing additional
members. Details of Imposed/ live load on each floor are as per input summary

14.Recommendations:14.1 Fire resistance:
The structural elements are designed for a fire resistance of Two hours. In
case of specific requirement from the user, over and above the requirements of the
code, same shall be noted and structural elements shall be detailed accordingly.
14.2 Cracking:Adherence to the detailing rules will generally take care of these criteria.
However, in case, cracking has to be limited to any particular width, reference shall be
made to the provisions of the code. Checks in RCC or Pre -stressed Concrete design
shall be done. Design is done for cracked section.
14.3 Vibration:
Isolation of source of vibration shall be done to avoid discomfort to the
occupants, structural damage and to check interference of functions of various
sensitive instruments. This may be achieved with flexible structural elements. Thedesigner will do the detailing based on user requirements. Checks for equipment load
details in regards to vibration are done. All equipments should be provided with anti-
vibration pads.
14.4 Durability:
The designer checks for the effects of the environment for which the structure
is exposed. Adequate covers have been provided and reasons for extra cover
thickness shall be given, wherever required. Covers provided as per IS 456. No extra
cover required.
14.5 Workmanship:
Dimensional tolerances, good and proper amount of curing are essentials for a
good workmanship. Any extra deviation can introduce extra moments and also less
curing will introduce cracks. In case of severe environments, specialist products shall
be specified.

14.6 Special Hazards:
The building is classified as non-hazardous. No extra partial safety factors are
used. Structure in question is classified as ordinary hazard, hence does not qualify as
building for effects of severe hazards.
