“We feel very fortunate to be in such a great school and district.” —OASD Parent
The Oconomowoc Area School Dis‐trict (OASD) covers approximately 120 sq. miles and draws students from Waukesha, Jefferson and Dodge counties. This year, the Dis‐trict served more than 5,000 stu‐dents; it has grown by an average of 100 students for each of the last six years. It is one of very few Wis‐consin Districts that can make that claim.
OASD includes an outstanding high school for students in 9th through 12th grade. Oconomowoc High School offers a unique combination of programming which includes the
International Baccalaureate Programme, Advanced Placement classes and many other learning options. OHS also includes an award‐winning arts center and field house, both completed in 2008.
The District also features two almost‐identical intermediate schools ‐ Nature Hill and Silver Lake – which opened only three years ago. The intermediate schools are located at opposite ends of the District, and offer personalized learning ex‐periences for students including three world languages, a complete arts curricu‐lum and technology‐enhanced classes to help students prepare for and lead a digital world.
Five elementary schools round out the Oconomowoc Area School District. It is there that students begin their education with the help of a supportive, well‐trained and enthusiastic staff. The nurturing environment of each site welcomes families and embraces students in a family of learning.

Greenland is a family‐oriented school nes‐tled in the “heart” of the Greenland neighborhood. Many of our students live within walking distance to our school. The 2010‐11 school year has been a great one! We have celebrated our TEAM theme throughout the school year and enjoyed be‐ing a Greenland “team” together.
We have document cameras in every grade level classroom for use during reading and writing workshops as well as other academic areas. We have had another successful year with our intervention block and Power Up for 1st‐ and 3rd‐grade students. The result has been improving reading level scores for our young readers throughout the year.
We celebrated another year with WKCE scores into the 90% range in both reading and math. We’ve enjoyed our new playground Monster Slide and anticipate the second phase of equipment is installed in summer 2011. We enjoyed a successful Art Fair, Book Character Day, Scholastic Book Fair, musical concerts, 3rd and 4th grade drama performances, stu‐dent‐led conferences, and continued improve‐ments to our school behavior with our three beliefs of respect, responsibility and safety.
Greenland students have worked hard to reach their academic and behavior goals with the help of our team of teachers and parents. Thank you so much for all of your support throughout the school year. We have a beauti‐ful school in Greenland and a wonderful TEAM!

Ixonia Elementary School is located ten miles west of Oconomowoc. It is a growing school with small town charm. We have approxi‐mately 230 students enrolled in four‐year‐old kindergarten through fourth grade. The Ixo‐nia School staff is highly talented and educa‐tors work diligently to meet individual student needs.
We believe that early literacy is crucial for stu‐dent success. We are committed to showing growth in this specific area under the premise that when students are literate they have a greater chance for success in all other curricu‐lar areas. As a direct result, we have dedi‐cated one hour each day as a literacy block where all students will be engaged in literacy activities; additionally, all support staff will be in classrooms to help our learners become stronger in this area.
Ixonia School offers many extra‐curricular opportunities such as: Student Council, Lunch Bunch Reading Club, Yearbook Club, All‐Stars, Football/Basketball clinics, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
Ixonia School has a very active PTO who spon‐sors many after school activities that help to bridge the gap between school, parents and the community such as: the Family Fall Picnic, monthly Movie Nights, Holiday Giving Tree, and Book Fairs. The PTO also sponsors fund‐raisers that help to defray the cost of field trips, materials for classrooms, equipment purchases and volunteer to help in class‐rooms during the school day.

Meadow View is a beautiful school built on 80 acres of land. We have several unique attractions including a natu‐ral pond, hiking trails, and a native Wisconsin prairie.
“Meadow View – Write On” was the school theme in 2010‐11 and our goal focused on improving our students’ read‐ing achievement. Reading benchmark assessments were used to monitor our students’ progress as well as a data wall. Children in need of extra assistance received help from classroom teachers, an intervention specialist, and our Reading Specialist in a small group setting. As a result of these and other efforts, our students continued to score well on the reading portion of the Wisconsin Knowledge & Concepts Exams.
Meadow View built strong partnerships within the building and community. Our PTO was very involved this year. Their main goal for the year was helping to infuse technology into our classrooms. Through their efforts we purchased smart boards and document cameras for literacy instruc‐tion. They also hosted a family movie night, a school dance, parent social, and other activities that gave our stu‐dents, staff, and parents the opportunity to gather.
We are excited to continue to provide a high quality edu‐cational experience for our students and families!
Jason Schreiber, Principal
From the principal’s perspective While in classrooms I have seen….
Varsity football players volunteering in
classrooms reading with our students. Students in music class practicing for
our Veteran’s Day observance. 4th graders working on a podcasting
technology unit. 1st grade math lessons focusing on
regrouping and place value. Tumbling activities in gym class. 4th graders using the smart board to
practice math concepts. 3rd graders practicing their math facts. 2nd graders being introduced to frac‐
tions in math. 5K students reading on their own! 4K boys and girls enjoying a read‐
aloud followed by letter identification and letter sound activities.

Park Lawn is a neighborhood school located near the downtown area of Oconomowoc. It serves over 500 students in K4‐4th grade and is privileged to serve students with severe special education needs from across the district.
Park Lawn’s PTO purchased books for all classrooms as well as provided a free book for each student from the book fair. The group also funded most of the project for Park Lawn’s closed circuit television station where a morning show is produced each day by the children.
Park Lawn offers many after school activities includ‐ing a chess club, math club, student council, after school sports, Special Olympics, science fair, and tal‐ent show. In order to meet the needs of the parent community, student performances are held in the evening.
Park Lawn had two goals this year. The first goal was to increase student achievement in writing. The per‐centage of students scoring 6 or above on the writ‐ing portion of the WKCE increased from 58% in 2009 to 73% in 2010.
For the first time ever, Park Lawn had two stu‐dents receive a 9 on a 9‐point rubric in writing.
The second goal was to increase student achieve‐ment through the use of innovative technology. The school piloted several technology initiatives including iTouches for classroom use. An action research study examined the implementation and impact on 3rd grade math outcomes. IPods were used with kindergarten students as listening cen‐ters for reading and iPads were utilized with spe‐cial needs students.
The overall theme for the school year was “Wild About Park Lawn” and the children showed their love of Park Lawn in many ways. They named their new panther mascot Midnight through an all‐school election. They chose their favorite pic‐ture book, The Stinky Cheese Man, which takes well‐known fairy tales and provides a comic twist to each one.

Summit Elementary School is located next to the YMCA at Pabst Farms and serves more than 550 students from 4K to grade 4. The staff of Summit school is comprised of highly qualified professional educators. Our staff maintains the standards and practices of a professional learning community, collaborat‐ing with one another and implementing best practices to further student learning.
Summit students perform very well on the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exams. For example, 94 percent of our students scored proficient or advanced in math last year. Similar performance was realized in reading.
Summit enjoys a valuable resource in its volun‐teers. The school’s P.T.O. is very active, pro‐viding Birthday Books for students, subsidizing field trip costs and hosting family events throughout the year.
Our second annual all‐school field trip was a fantastic experience for everyone! Students learned about various artists, interacted with nature, had opportunities to write, and had a blast with their friends at school! We would like to thank the 60+ parent volunteers who braved the great outdoors with us! We would also like to thank Imagine a Day, the Court‐ney Bella Foundation, for funding this won‐derful experience for our students!

After three years of serving the Oconomowoc community, Nature Hill Intermediate School has established itself as a warm and welcoming envi‐ronment where students excel in academics, the arts and athletics. We serve more than 750 stu‐dents in 5th through 8th grades, who come to us from Meadow View, Ixonia and Greenland ele‐mentary schools. With the rigorous preparation we provide our students in mathematics, lan‐guage arts, science, social studies, music, visual arts, physical education and technology educa‐tion, they leave us poised and ready to be suc‐cessful at Oconomowoc High School and beyond!
Our students perform exceptionally well on the annual Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam, with over 90% of all students scoring proficient or advanced in reading and mathematics. We attrib‐ute our success to giving students large blocks of time in which to engage with core academic sub‐jects. In addition, students have access to the help they need during daily intervention periods to ensure that every child can succeed.
Our teachers continuously go above and beyond the call of duty to meet the social and emotional needs of our students. We offer numerous extracurricular activities, including Robotics, Student Council, Photog‐raphy and Ski Club, that develop positive connections between our students, our staff and our school.
Guiding our rigorous core curriculum is the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) framework. Within this framework, the MYP student profile en‐hances and expands our students’ relation‐ships with our school, community, and the world in which they live, all the while deep‐ening their sense of self and purpose.
The staff, students and families of NHI wel‐come the opportunities and challenges that a new school always bring. We look forward to doing great things together!

Step inside the doors of Silver Lake Intermediate School and you’ll see a passion for lifelong learn‐ing as our students become collaborative work‐ers, complex thinkers, and self‐directed learners. Silver Lake instructs students in grades 5‐8 serv‐ing students from Park Lawn and Summit ele‐mentary schools. Our academic philosophy en‐sures that each student has the opportunity to succeed.
With increased class time in math, reading, and writing, science, social studies and expanded options in our Exploratory Program (computer, technology education, Project Lead the Way (pre‐engineering), graphic arts, world languages (Mandarin/German/Spanish), music, physical education, and family consumer education) stu‐dents develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to participate actively and respon‐sibly. WCKE and ACT Explore standardized test results continue to be above state and national standards .
Silver Lake believes Service Learning is mutually beneficial. This year Silver lake students raised $7,500 to aid the village of Kikatiti, Africa. Stu‐dents generated pledges by offering a carnival and a walk‐a‐thon.
Silver Lake sustained its giving spirit by raising money for and participating in several volun‐teer efforts such as Bead for Life, Oconomo‐woc Rotary Project, Oconomowoc Food Pan‐try, Haiti Relief Efforts, tornado victims in Joplin, Missouri, and sponsoring a program and breakfast for our local veterans.
Guiding our rigorous core curriculum is the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Pro‐gramme (MYP) framework. Our 8th grade WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) leadership program promotes positive behavior and fos‐ters a sense of belonging. Our “Taste of Excel‐lence” student celebration evening and PTO Spaghetti Dinner allows students to share pro‐gress with their families, and celebrate their learning successes.
The 2010‐2011 school year had all the ele‐ments of a championship year: teamwork, challenges, excitement, intrigue, fun, happi‐ness, and most of all, a successful ending.

Oconomowoc High School is a comprehensive school serving almost 1500 stu‐dents grades 9 through 12. Oconomowoc High School students can choose from programming in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme, Advanced Placement, Project Lead the Way, Transcripted Technical College credit and many other vocational course options. Many of our students enter college having earned college credit during high school through one of these programs. This year we had two students honored as National Merit Scholarship Awards recipients and averaged 30 college credits for our full diploma IB students upon entering college.
We offer a wide array of extra‐curricular activities and our students perform well in competition in these activities. This year we had teams that competed at Sectionals and State levels in cross‐country, basketball and softball. We also had students compete in DECA and FBLA at the National level. Our drama program earned several Tommy Awards for their musical theater production of Bye Bye Birdie, which this year was judged at the state level.
With a constant effort to improve, we accomplished our school‐wide goal of reducing the number of course failures for our students. When students perform better in the classroom, they will have better opportunities later in life.
