INSTALLATION AND LICENSING

OVERVIEWUCMAPS has negotiated a UCalgary wide license forESRI products. This document explains how to obtain,install, and license the software. It can be navigated in

the following ways:

Space Bar ­ Next slide.Arrow Icons / Swipe ­ Use the arrows in the bottomright, or swipe on touch based devices, to select newtopics (left and right) or more details (up and down).Esc / Pinch Zoom ­ Press the Escape key or usepinch zooming (touch) to see an overview of thepresentation.

USER REQUIREMENTSUCalgary Staff ­ Staff may install ArcGIS on theirUCalgary supplied computers.UCalgary Faculty ­ Faculty may install ArcGIS ontheir UCalgary supplied computers and their researchcomputers.Undergraduate Students ­ A one year studentevaluation version of ArcGIS Desktop is available forcourse work.Other ­ ESRI provides both a   and aninexpensive   version of the software.

INSTALL WINDOWS UPDATESInstall all Windows updates before proceding. Also be

sure that the .NET 3.5 Framework is installed.

.NET 3.5 SP1 OR HIGHERThe process for installing .NET 3.5 depends on your

operating system and group policy.

UNINSTALL OLD VERSIONSUninstall any versions previous to ArcGIS 10.1. If youhave v10.1 or newer, an upgrade will be performed

instead of an install using the same process.

If required run the ArcGIS 10.3.1 Uninstall Utility first.

INSTALL ARCGIS FOR DESKTOPBe sure to use an Administrative Account, double clickthe downloaded file, and follow all prompts. A completeinstall of the software requires approximately 2.4GB of

disk space.

SELECT DESTINATION

Choose where to put (decompress) the installation files.The default location is preferred.

LAUNCH SETUP

Once done, leave the box checked to install now, thenclick "Close".

WELCOME

Press "Next" to continue.

LICENSE AGREEMENT

Read and accept the ESRI License Agreement.

INSTALL OPTIONS

It is highly recommended that you select a completeinstallation with default options.

INSTALL PATH

Choose where to install the software. The default path isrecommended.

PYTHON

A special version of Python is required for ArcGISDesktop.

READY

Confirm that you are ready to install ArcGIS for Desktop.

PROGRESS

It can take some time to install ArcGIS. The progressindicator may cycle several times, and is not a good

indication of time remaining.

FINISHED

ArcGIS for Desktop is now installed. Click "Finish" toadvance to setting up licensing.

LICENSE ARCGIS DESKTOP

Run the ArcGIS Administrator to verify your installation. Choose whether you are workingwith the   (concurrent from arclic.ucalgary.ca), or a 

 (for offsite use). You may also be able to get a   code from yourinstructor.

UCalgary on campus license stand alonelicense student evaluation

CONCURRENT LICENSEConcurrent Licenses are issued by arclic.ucalgary.ca tocomputers that are connected to the standard UCalgarynetwork. This is the best choice for staff and faculty.

ARCGIS ADMINISTRATOR

Run the ArcGIS Administrator to select the license server (arclic.ucalgary.ca) and license type(Advanced (ArcInfo) Concurrent Use).

VERIFY AVAILABILITY

Check that there are available licenses for the versionand feature that you are using.

STAND ALONE LICENSE

To install a stand alone license, double click on theprovided license file (.prvc file) and follow the prompts.

SELECT LICENSE FILE

Browse to the license file provided by UCMAPS or youradministrator.

AUTHORIZE

Authorize over the Internet.
