Advent Prayer
Father in heaven, our hearts desire the warmth of your love and our minds

may find us rejoicing in his presence and welcoming the light of his truth.
We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen

THE ARCHDIOCESE OF ARMAGH — REVIEW OF SAFEGUARDING PRACTICE
On Tuesday 10 December past Cardinal Seán Brady published the Review of Safeguarding
Practice in the Archdiocese of Armagh by the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the
Catholic Church in Ireland (NBSCCCI)
The Review has found that safeguarding practice in the Archdiocese of Armagh conforms to
the highest national standards. Cardinal Brady expressed his immense gratitude to the
multitude of lay representatives and clergy who have worked hard to attain these high
standards.
Cardinal Brady repeated his apology to those who have been abused, saying that they had
suffered terribly and that he was truly sorry.
While acknowledging the Report’s findings that the response in the past was not as robust
and coordinated as in the present, the Review recognises that the archdiocese is fully
committed to safeguarding children and young people; it also acknowledges that all current
child protection concerns are reported fully and without delay to the Police and Social
Services. The reviewers established that forty five out of the forty eight assessment criteria
have been “fully met” and the remaining three have been “partially met”.
At all times, however, whenever and wherever children are involved in Church activities,
“vigilance” shall continue to be the watchword of the Archdiocese of Armagh.
As part of our outreach to those who have suffered, the Archdiocese of Armagh supports the
work of Towards Healing (contact details below), a counselling and psychotherapy service for
those who have been abused as children by people working for the Catholic Church in Ireland.
Your Parish Priest will be able to obtain a full copy of the Review for any parishioner who requests
same or you may download the full Review Report yourself from the Armagh diocesan website:

SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPELS
Matthew 11:2-11
1 In response to the question of John, Jesus let his actions speak for him. Some people show by the
way they live what it means to be a follower of Jesus. Who has given you such an example?
Perhaps there have been times when you have done the same for others.
2 John made a journey of faith from an incomplete knowledge of Jesus to a deeper understanding
of who he was. Recall similar steps in your journey of faith.
3 Faith is not primarily about answering abstract theological questions but about living the gospel.
What in your life has helped you to get that sense of perspective? 4 John marked the end of an era, Jesus the beginning of a new one. In our lives how do we honour the past and yet be free to move on into a new era? john byrne osa
