    NEW Archdiocesan Television Show on The Death Penalty in California #Mercy Sunday, October 2, 5:00-5:30 am KPIX television Channel 5, CBS Bay Area The Catholic bishops of California have expressed their support for Proposition 62 on this Novembers state ballot. Proposition 62 would end the use of the death penalty. And they have expressed their opposition to Proposition 66, which affirms the death penalty and revises the legal procedures surrounding it. But what are the issues, what are the principles, what are the arguments, and what are the questions involvedquestions of justice, safety, punishment, rehabilitation, and mercy? Join us for an informational and educational half-hour on MOSAIC, the monthly television show for the Archdiocese on KPIX Channel 5. Archived episodes of MOSAIC are on the archdiocesan website.

    NEW The Red Mass for the Legal and Justice Professions, with Archbishop Cordileone Tuesday, October 25, 5:30 pm Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 666 Filbert St., San Francisco stthomasmore-sf.org The Red Mass is a tradition more than seven centuries old, an occasion of liturgical prayer seeking blessing and guidance for judges, attorneys, law students, law professors, government officials, all who work in the legal and justice systems, and for all who seek justice. The annual Red Mass is sponsored by the St. Thomas More Society of San Francisco. Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone is the celebrant, with Bishop Thomas Paprocki of the Diocese of Springfield, Illinois, concelebrating and preaching. Following Mass, there will be a reception and dinner honoring the recipient of the 2016 St. Thomas More Award, Stephen T. Lanctot, for his service to the Church. All are welcome to attend Mass, reception, and dinner. Dinner tickets are $90 per person, $45 for students and clergy. This years Gala highlights Pope Franciss Jubilee Year of Mercy: Opening our Hearts to Love & Forgiveness. The celebration begins at 5:30 pm with a no-host cocktail hour, followed by dinner at 6:30 pm and dancing at 8:00. Entertainment by the Singing Priests of the Archdiocese of San Francisco and the Filipino Ministry dancers. The annual dinner-dance fundraiser promotes fellowship with all the faithful in the archdiocese and recognizes the unique gifts of faith the Filipinos bring to the local church, vibrantly expressed in their cultural celebrations and devotional practices. The day begins with registration from 8:00 to 9:00 am and closes with Mass at 4:00 pm, celebrated by Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone. Bishop William Justice will lead the opening Lauds at 9:00 am.
