BIOGRAPHY. EARLY YEARS
● Descended from the poor family of a shoemaker
● Was born in Mariupol
● When a boy, he was left without his parents
● At ten he made sketches of nature
ARTISTIC PERSONALITY
● Was apprenticed to Aivazovsky
● Influenced his choice of the colourscale, subject-matter and pictorial method
Borrowed a lot from the marine painter and was often compared and contrasted to him.

In the 60-s Kwindgy studied in the Art Academy His early pictures are
the most intrinsic and incomparable in composition

In the 70-s the painter’s visions of life and nature endured some drastic changes
In the 80-s Kwindgy joined the Itinerants and won universal acclaim
He was appointed teacher in the Art Academy and taught Roerich, Bogaevsky and Rylov

Archip Kwindgy was a self-educated artist, had a faculty of painting
