Drafting and Design Technology’s Campuses and Instructors

The Grand Island campus offers 18 career education programs in the areas of busi-ness-related careers, drafting, electronics and information technology, manufacturing and fabrication careers, nurs-ing and occupational therapy. Academic transfer courses are offered in 21 fields for students who plan to com-

plete two years at CCC before transferring to 4-year schools. As a commuter campus, the Grand Island campus is home to a diversity of students, including many non-traditional and traditional students.

The Hastings campus is situated on 500 acres and is the original site of Central Community College. It is a residential campus with ex-ceptional on-campus hous-ing for up to 400 students. There are 31 career and technical programs avail-able on a full or part-time basis, as well as academic

Every product you use from your cell phone to the car you drive had to be designed and built by skilled tech-nicians. Every house, shopping mall, or hospital had to be visualized and planned prior to construction. The Drafting and Design program at Central Commu-nity College provides students with the opportunity

to create anything they can imagine and trains them for lucrative ca-reers in employment fields of the future. This program uses the latest software to bring concepts to re-ality through intuitive design principles that adhere to cutting-edge industry processes. The Drafting and De-sign program teaches students the funda-

mentals of design, gives them the ability to document, evaluate, and modify their designs, and prototype their concepts.

Drafting and Design/Dual DegreeThe concepts taught within the Drafting and Design program in-corporate knowledge from other programs that tie closely with the manufacturing and construction fields. The Advanced Manu-facturing Design Technology (AMDT) program and the Construc-tion Technology (CNST) share a common focus with the Drafting and Design program in designing, document-ing, building, testing, and marketing prod-ucts. The collabora-tive approach devel-ops the skills students will need to work with others through an in-

novative curriculum utilizing design/build projects. Core competencies applicable in these programs allow students to take courses that apply to more than one de-gree. Many students are able to earn two degrees in three years. Gradu-ates of an integrated curriculum and dual degrees have access to more employment opportunities and higher skills to market to employers.

Design Your Future at Central Community College!

The Drafting and Design Technology programs require 63-credit hours resulting in an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. The cutting-edge software and equipment available at Central Community College put students on a career path with outstanding opportunities in numerous fields of work. Graduates of these programs will be able to demonstrate the ability to solve problems, develop innovative ideas, work with others, and play a lead role in product development through design and interaction. Design software packages offered include:

Students will be exposed to a variety of classroom delivery methods which may include lecture, lab, individualized instruction, and online courses. The Drafting and Design Technology faculty continuously upgrade their teaching skills and software expertise to provide a knowledgeable, student-focused approach to the college experience. Central Community College is proud to offer this opportunity in Central Nebraska and beyond.

Students interested in Drafting and Design Technology should possess strong reading, writing, and math skills.

The Drafting and Design program is recognized as an eco-nomic benefit to students, manufacturers, and the construc-tion industry throughout the region. Central Community College strives to provide the latest in equipment, soft-ware, facility upgrades, and training for highly qualified instructors. Students in Drafting and Design Technology can earn Associate of Applied Science degrees in our two-year programs and choose specializations that interests them. Four specializations are available in the Drafting and Design program:

• Architectural Design and Documentation

• Manufacturing Drafting and Design

• Structural Detailing and Design

• Construction Design

Flexibility within the specializations allows students to design a program of study that caters to individual interests or focus their training toward specific employers.

What will tomorrow’s world look like? That can be up to you. Design Your Future at Central Community College.

The Drafting and Design Technology program also offers the option of transferring to the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s Construction Management program. Students choosing this option will attain an Associate of Science degree from Central Community College. Coursework at UNK will prepare students with the knowledge and skills necessary to organize, lead, and manage people, materials, and processes of construction. Graduates will assist architects, structural engineers, and construction professionals in project management, scheduling and inspections of construction projects.
