san francisco bay_WINDThe project takes its inspiration from the wind patterns in the San Francisco Bay area. In a series of monthly maps pin-pointing the zones of wind intensity, areas within the bay of greater or lesser wind intensity are identified. A composite map is drawn. An abstraction is made as a representation of this fluctuation in wind strength.

The information on wind strengths is translated into a 3D construct, in which two forms intertwine: the wind patterns in white and the water in gray. The ‘shared space’ conditions as well as the relationship between th etwo elements weaving into one another are key issues to the project.

A physical model was produced to explore the spatial conditions resulting from the two interlocking elements. To facilitate visualization of these shared spaces, the construct was built in layers separated by spacers.

north woolwhich, london | NEGOTIATING THE EDGELocated east of central London, the area of North Woolwhich is home

to a large majority of commuters, which has consequently refrained this neighborhood’s development in communal and public space making. The

area also houses a variety of typologies ranging from industrial, educational, residential, etc..., creating tension between these juxtaposed environments.

The project asked to come up with a design for a site of our choice that would ultimately negotiate the conflicts within those edge conditions all the

while instigating a sense of community and identity to North Woolwhich.

Sharing two of its sides with both the planned blmh youth academy and the Drew primary school, the wildlife garden celebrates opportunist ecologies all the while offering platforms of activities for both of the institutions and the public.

SHARED WILDLIFE GARDEN 2 THE BEACONKeeping in mind the restrictive nature of the budget of the blmh as well as the temporary condition of the project, the proposal offers usage of the tower of the existing property as lighthouse.

3THE PARK IN THE SKYAs a solution to the dividing impact of the upcoming Crossrail line, a new London train that

would connect it to its boroughs although omitting to stop in North Woolwhich, a park in the sky is proposed to bridge this barrier. The railway becomes a destination instead of a divider

and offers an attractive space of leisure.

syracuse, ny | QUESTIONING THE MALLThe project investigates how the typology

of the mall affects the actual shopping experience and if another more effective

model is realizable.

The ‘mall space’ is a combination of socializing space as well as consuming space. In this phase of the project, an addition to Syracuse’ s downtown Everson Museum is imagined with a central core for shopping and adjacent socializing spaces.

The mall typology is argued to be an enclosed system that cuts the user/consumer off from the exterior world: as if enclosed in a bubble. The resulting diagram for this project recreates this bubble in the form of a

dome that hovers over the existing fabric; in this case the campus’s Schine student center.

The site for this project is interestingly located in between the CNY Regional Market and Syracuse’s

northside residential neighborhood. The project aims at creating a safe, easthetically pleasing and practical connection between the two typologies.

1The project is composed of three distinct programs revolving around food systems. Through spaces of retail, education and administration the cny.foodcenter promotes local farming and healthy eating.

2The project uses the site for a direct and safe route to the Regional Market as well as giving access to on-site healthy food. The project offers both a pedestrian pathway and a vehicular roadway access to the Regional Market, all the while proposing the creation of a system of retail for healthy, locally

grown and affordable prepared meals.

3Advocacy presents itself throughout the building in moments of display/visibility of the major processes of the food system: Production, Processing, Distribution, Consumption. Secondly, the project incorporates advocacy in its program through the establishment of an educational center for cooking

and nutrition. 4The project uses a system of butterfly roofs to collect rainwater that is then reused for the maintenance of the gardens, greehouse

plants and orchard.
