In Toronto, Ontario a contemporary art museum was designed based on the concept of light versus dark. The program was broken up based on natural versus artificial light. By having a central atrium penetrating the entire structure, natural light is maximized. Artificial light was explored through a digital-mesh screen on the west facade.

Circulation wraps around the central atrium, ending on the top gallery floor.
The structure is based on a two-way steel frame with six tree
columns. The roof structure is customized to filter light into
the museum. The northern light penetrates through glass, while
the southern side of the skylight is covered by LED-light strings.
This is another balance of natural vs. artificial light.

Active sustainability was the key focus for a black box theatre set in Clemson, SC. Light and transparency is achieved through the glass facades, white angular columns, and operable facade panels. The panels open and close depending on environmental elements, and solar fabric screens are in place providing shade and energy collection.
Various seating arrangements were possible by having a mechanically operated stage and seats. Several upper catwalks and a suspended wire-grid frame allow for fly space above stage.
A two week design charette was to design a Methodist Grade School based in Belmopan, Belize. The ultimate goal was for a design-build project that the Belizean people could undertake. The concept was indoor/outdoor learning and was achieved by natural materials, covered terraces, outdoor amphitheatres, and sliding partitions.
In a color graphics class, we drew hand renderings with a combination of ink, graphite, prisma-colored markers and colored pencil. These are various drawings completed in the class. The ability to sketch and convey ideas with pen and paper is a skill that proves useful in the field of architecture and cannot be practiced enough.
As a case study, the new award-winning Lee Hall building on Clemson’s campus was studied to learn about construction materials and methods. A section of the southern facade was modeled to the 1/8th scale, with careful detailing. The process of making a section model teaches hand craft and knowledge of wall sections.
This model was made for a studio design project of a contemporary art museum. The model clearly shows the distinction of the concept of light versus dark. The upper level skylights allow natural light to penetrate to the lower level floors via the atrium. With minimal detailing and simplicity the model effectively shows the spatial relationships of the design.
Second year graduate students at A&M compete during their final semester for the best five projects. The five, selected by a panel of judges, are given an award ceremony called “The Celebration of Excellence”. This book was put together under the guidance of Professor Marcel Erminy and features the five winners and samples of their work.

Over the course of a semester in Italy, research was conducted on the National Library in Florence. This research was geared towards the historic preservation needs of the building. A monumental flood occurred in 1966, causing water damage that has worsened over time. A paper and poster were created to convey the research findings.
Along with the National Parks Service, a project was performed on Alcatraz Island to help document and preserve the island. Deterioration is occurring rapidly because of the moisture content and salt levels in the air. By laser scanning and photographing the current condition, damage maps can be made to notify which parts require immediate attention.
While working with the Center for Heritage Conservation at A&M, a project was conducted at The Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. Laser scanning and documenting the building and grounds will help in the process of digital modeling. Once a model is made, it can be used to share information about the Alamo to visitors and fellow scholars.
