WHAT IS ARDUINO?
Arduino is an open-source hardware, software, and content platform with a worldwide community of over 30 million active users. It has powered thousands of projects over the years, from everyday objects to complex scientific instruments. This success has been made possible by combining a wide variety of electronic boards, easy-to-use tools, a collaborative community, and practical project examples to suit all levels.
THE EDUCATION TEAM AND MISSION
Arduino is on a mission to make technology accessible to everyone, and into the hands of every student and educator. To make this possible, we have created Arduino Education: a dedicated global team formed by education experts, content developers, engineers, and interaction designers. Arduino Education is focused on creating the next generation of STEAM programs — integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math — while supporting the needs of teachers and students throughout the educational journey.
CURRENT USE CASES
Educational institutions use Arduino as a resource to assist in educating their students on a wide variety of topics, using several methods.
Develop: Arduino is widely adopted at post-secondary education (e.g., universities, colleges, research institutes) in the fields of engineering, Internet of Things, robotics, art, and design.Teach and Learn: Many secondary schools use Arduino in innovative programs for cross-curriculum studies. Play: Primary schools use toys embedded with Arduino technology to introduce physical learning, logic, building skills, and problem solving.

Introducing the first Arduino FPGA Boards
An FPGA (field-programmable gate array) is a chip designed to be configurable. It’s composed of an array of interconnected programmable logic blocks, which can be rearranged in different configurations without additional hardware or wiring. Unlike microcontrollers, which have fixed hardware functions, you can customize the logic of an FPGA specifically for your project, and change it as often as you like. This makes FPGAs very versatile.
Making FPGA Accessible
Arduino is on a mission to make technology accessible to everyone, from absolute beginners to professionals. The new generation of Arduino FPGA boards is no exception. Our FPGA boards can be programmed easily via the Arduino IDE using pre-configured hardware libraries, with the option of using HDLs (Hardware Description Languages) for more advanced users.
Each processing task can be assigned to a specific section of the chip, allowing parallel processing of data and much higher throughput than possible with a microcontroller alone.
Input/Output Blocks (IOB) provide an interface between package pins and internal signal lines.
Configurable Logic Blocks (CLBs) provide functional elements for constructing user logic.
Interconnects, or programmable interconnect resources provide routing paths to connect inputs and outputs of CLBs and IOBs with the appropriate network.

Shield and Carrier Boards: An Introduction
Shields are circuit boards that can be plugged on top of an Arduino PCB, extending its capabilities. The different shields follow the same philosophy as the original toolkit: they’re easy to mount, and cheap to produce.
Similarly, the Carrier boards are circuit boards plugged at the bottom of the MKR boards to extend their features, to add special connectors or functionalities to the board.

The Arduino Certification Program (ACP) is a structured way to develop your professional skills and get official recognition as you progress. It includes online courses and webinars, certification exams, and certificates of achievement.
Designed in consultation with leading technology curriculum experts, interaction designers, and electronic engineering professionals, the ACP assesses skills based on certification exercises consisting of practical tasks.
Certifications are offered at three levels: basic, intermediate and advanced. Obtaining certification shows that you have successfully completed one of the following Arduino training programs:
Arduino for EducatorsDesigned for professional educators, the basic course covers the fundamentals of technology (i.e., theory and practice of electronics) and pedagogical modules (i.e., techniques to teach physical computing, electronics, and prototyping). At the intermediate and advanced levels, participants can add on specialization modules in fields such as robotics and IoT for enhanced certification. Arduino for ProfessionalsFor those using Arduino for business, the basic professional development course is divided into three different tracks: engineering, art & design, and applied science.
Arduino for EnthusiastsThe basic course for Arduino enthusiasts is an online course based on the Starter Kit.
Arduino for Enthusiasts will become available by the end of 2018, more will follow in 2019.
