Are VEGANS reallySLIMMER?It has long been thought that Vegans, whose diet is from fruits, grains, nuts and vegetables and no animal products, might have some specific health benefits that those on a more traditional diet do not.

Seventh-day Adventists 70,000VEGETARIANSare slimmer, on average,than meat eaters.In fact a long-running Adventist Health Study recently yielded an encouraging finding for vegans and vegetarians. After evaluating data collected from more than 70,000 Seventh-day Adventists in the United States and Canada, researchers announced some encouraging findings first of all, that >vegetarians are slimmer, on average, than meat eaters.

The study found that despite similar caloric intake, meat eaters have a higher body mass index (BMI) than vegetarians. BMI is a calculation that uses your height and weight to estimate how much body fat you have. Being overweight is associated with having other health problems. The study also found that>vegans, people who eat no animal products, >are slenderest of all.

This particular study has been very comprehensive in considering various diet patterns and the effect it has on ones weight. Actually the study compared five groups: >non-vegetarians (meat eaters), >semi-vegetarians (occasional meat eaters) ,>pesco vegetarians (people who eat fish, but not meat),>lacto-ovo vegetarians (people who consume dairy products) ,>and vegans (strict vegetarians).If you are looking to loose some weight and maybe improve you health status, this information might be just what you needed to know.

Results reveal that the average BMI was highest among non-vegetarians and lowest among strict vegetarians. Obesity rates were also highest among meat eaters, with 33.3 percent of non-vegetarians classified as obese; and in contrast notice the descending rates of obesity starting with >semi-vegetarians (24.2 percent),>pesco vegetarians (17.9 percent), >lacto-ovo vegetarians (16.7 percent), >and strict vegetarians (9.4 percent).
