Thisyearwestartedourgrowingseasonwitha “cracker”opening rainand unlike last year, it has continued with regularity. There has beena lot of optimismwith “potential’ yields themain topic of conversation.Likewise,stockpriceshavebeengreattodatewiththeonlyissuebeingthedecliningnumbersinourdistrict.
WehaveanotherexceptionalentrantforourRuralAmbassadorinHayleyBaikie. Hayley is an extremely valued member of the NorthamptonCommunityandisactiveonmanyacommittee.WeareverygratefultohaveHayleyon thecommitteeand thankher foraccepting the taskofrepresentingallofusatNorthampton.
HopefullyyouwillenjoytheShowthatwehavepresentedthisyear.OneofthemainexhibitsforthisyearistheveryhistoricandinformativedisplayofTheAustralianLighthorse.Thecommitteethoughtitwouldbeafittingexhibittohave,giventhemagnitudeofthisCentenaryandwehopethatyouall takesome time to learna littleof thecharacters thathelped todefineournation.
AftermovingtoNorthamptonwithmyfamilyIstartedjoiningvolunteergroupsstartingwiththeDFESCadets.IoriginallyjoinedasaCadetbutafterreaching18IhadtodecidebetweenleavingtheUnitorbecominganInstructor,itwasn’tadifficultchoiceand from thisdecision IhaveprogressedontoUnitLeaderwhich Iamcurrentlyholdingformy7thYear.

Thisyear’sShowwillfeatureanexcitingLightHorseDisplay,withphotosandstoriescoveringmostLightHorseRegimentsinAustralia,althoughthemajorityisaboutourown10thLightHorseRegiment.Over600photostakeninEgyptandathome,byourearlysoldiersmakeinterestingviewing.TherearealsoquitealotofWW2photosofthe10thLightHorse.Alongwiththesethereisamodelhorseandmannequin,bothwiththecorrectgearthatwasusedintheEgyptiancampaigninWW1.Fourdisplaycasesofmemorabiliafinishesoffaveryimpressivedisplay.The owner of the display, Phil Sullivan,whilst far from being an authority on theLight Horse history, can answer questionsregarding your ancestors that may havebeenintheLightHorseRegimentandwouldwelcome more photos and memorabilia ifyouhaveany.
