ARESARESGreek God of War
William Kirk
Ares was usually pictured as a handsome, bearded warrior in battle armor
with a helmet and bronze-tipped spear.
His pets were the dog, the vulture, and the boar.
Ares was the god of war, bravery, and
slaughter but he was the god of the
savage side of war.
His opposite was Athena, the goddess of military strategy.
Ares was the son of Hera and her husband, Zeus
never really liked him so she sent him to live with a minor
god.
He never married but he did have many children and he
had an affair with Aphrodite.

Ares was also the god of murder. He
often killed the weak.
He sent a boar to kill Adonis.
Ares’s companions were Hades, Discord, Panic, and his sons,
Fear and Terror.
His mother, Hera, had to protect him from Zeus when he was younger. He didn’t
need anyone to protect him when he was older.
Ares was from Thrace and
spent much of his time there.
He also spent time at Mount
Olympus where the Greek gods
lived.
The symbols for Ares are mainly a helmet and
bronze-tipped spear.
His other symbols are a chariot and flaming
torch.
Just like this helmet
and spear…
