NGNP

•Greenhouse Gases will be demanded to decrease •Natural Gas and petroleum will not drop in price over the long term, and may significantly increase •Natural resource conservation and dependencies will be more important

•Potable and fresh water sources will experience shortages

•A nuclear renaissance is expected, but must excel in safety and environmental impact minimization (including HLW disposal)

New energy sources need energy themselves

Tar sands in Canada and Venezuela require heat and hydrogen for processing and upgrading…

…while oil shale will be thermally processed underground in the

American West

Coal-to-liquids can replace petroleum in vehicle fuels

Ethylene and other chemicals warrant attention

Heat cracks larger molecules into plastic monomers

Ethylene is the largest volume organic chemical. but not the scale of fuel refining.

Chemicals are however more valuable.

Saudis and other oil producers are entering this market to export more valuable materials

Society is recognizing other large needs

Desalination of ocean or brackish water

Control of CO2 emissions by substituting nuclear for

combustion heat

AREVA High Temperature Reactors have the potential to

offset significant uses of natural gas and other fossil fuels
