AREVA Northern Link July 2017 - Opportunity North McClean Lake Operating Licence Renewal The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) held the public hearing for the McClean Lake Operation Licence Renewal in La Ronge, SK on June 7-8, 2017. In addition to the presentations made by AREVA and the CNSC staff in support of the renewal of the McClean Lake Operating Licence, there were 10 intervenors who also made oral or written presentations with respect to this renewal. The intervenors included northern communities representatives, union representatives, scientists and others. On June 29, 2017 the CNSC announced that the Commission had granted a 10 year licence renewal to our McClean Lake Operation. The McClean Lake Operation Licence is valid as of July 1, 2017 and will expire on June 30, 2027. “We are pleased with the outcome of the McClean Lake Operation licence renewal process” said Vincent Martin, president and CEO. “It speaks to the excellent performance of this operation over the past 22 years, in compliance with the requirements of the Nuclear Safety Control Act, its regulations and other legislative requirements.” Information related to this licence renewal is available on the CNSC website at nuclearsafety.gc.ca. AREVA thanks all the intervenors for their participation in this renewal process and the many La Ronge residents who attended the hearing or provided services during our stay. Congratulations Evan Corrigal! Evan Corrigal, from Île-à-la-Crosse, has been a recipient of the AREVA Northern Scholarship for the past five years. “The scholarship has meant a great deal to me throughout my education. It meant not having to work while attending classes, having the chance to focus on my studies, and not having to worry about where my tuition and book money was going to come from,” says Evan. AREVA was also pleased to welcome Evan at the McClean Lake mill for two terms as a summer student and for 16 months as an intern through the University of Saskatchewan’s Engineering Professional Internship Program. “I would recommend the summer student position to other students, including young northerners, as the experience that I gained was invaluable. What I liked most about the experience was the team work that it takes for the mill to be successful; I had a lot of great help throughout my summer student and intern positions.” Evan demonstrated the same work ethic at our site as he did with his studies and we are pleased to see that it paid off. This spring, Evan graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Evan currently lives in Saskatoon where he is employed fulltime as a Mechanical Engineer in Training. “My aspiration as an engineer is to continue to push myself to further my skills, experience, and educational level so that I can inspire other northern students to enroll in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) courses and careers,” he says. Well done Evan! We wish you much sucess in your career.

Congratulations McClean Lake ERT!The AREVA McClean Lake Emergency Response Team (ERT) competed in the 49th Annual Emergency Response & Mine Rescue Skills Competition on Saturday, June 3, 2017 and won the Surface Fire Fighting event! They also competed and did their very best in the other four events including First Aid, Proficiency Skills, Practical Skills, and Simulated Surface Problem. Thank you team for representing McClean Lake so well. We are proud of you! Brett Arnott, one of McClean Lake’s Environment Technicians, who resides in La Ronge, has been on the ERT for 2 years. He is not the only northern residents on the ERT. Dalton Cook, Derek Cook and Gord Wrightson are also part of McClean Lake’s full ERT. The skills

they learn as part of their emergency response training can sometimes come in handy on their week off site in their communities.

The AREVA McClean Lake ERT Competition team included: Tracy Gaudry (Captain), Lindsay Haeusler (Vice Captain), Geoff Gerbrandt, Mitch Desjardins, Tyrel Braaten, Brett Arnott, Jason Shields, Navid Taherdin (Volunteer Guide), Les Churko (Volunteer Casualty), as well as Dwayne Kashuba and Chris Stansfield (Trainers).

First Annual Core DaysAs part of the first northern Saskatchewan annual Core Days, several AREVA employees at our McClean Lake Operation were awarded pins last week to recognize their 20+ years of service within northern Saskatchewan’s mining workforce. Core Days promotes the minerals industry in northern Saskatchewan and works to recognize those with long service to the northern exploration and mining industries. Core Days is sponsored by the Saskatchewan Mining Association, KCDC Northlands College, and the Government of Saskatchewan. Congratulations to Dan Bell, Stanley Hood, Archie Disain, Rodney Clarke, Victor McDonald, Dave Miller, and Gord Wrightson on this great milestone!

Happy National Aborginal Day! - June 21AREVA was happy to celebrate National Aboriginal Day with its employees and northern neighbours on June 21, 2017.

We are proud that nearly 50% of our McClean Lake Operation employees are of Aboriginal ancestry and that we all share the values of respect for people, culture and the land!
