Winter Survival Guide
What to wear?
• A down coat
• Avoid stylish shoes when you’re outside
• Waterproof boots to traverse the slush
• A hat, a scarf and gloves
Snow removal
• Unless you own a home, your super and building should will oversee snow removal
• But snow piles up quickly in the winter, hurting visibility and walking
• Plan for additional time for your commute.
Parking• Owning a car in NY
is a big hassle in the winter
• Park your car in a lot or opt for vehicle storage
Dog owners• The salt that
sprinkles New York sidewalks can harm your dog’s paws
• When you’re walking the dog, avoid salted areas, or put booties on their feet
• If they don’t have thick fur, a jacket is a good idea too
Melting snow
• When New York’s snow melts, it turns into a disgusting gray slush that can cause flooding
• Wear boots for unexpected slush puddles
• Stand away from corners when the snow is melting, otherwise passing traffic will splash the melted snow
