1 Manual conventions
Note
This manual describes the settings and features as they were at the time
of print. Since manual and software are subject to different production
cycles, the description of settings and features may differ from actual
settings and features. Information about discrepancies is provided in the
Readme file that accompanies the product. Please read this file and take
the information into account when installing, setting up, and using the
product.
If you want to install all technical and/or business system functions
without the services of IDS Scheer, you require extensive knowledge of
the system to be installed, its intended purpose, the target systems, and
their various dependencies. Due to the number of platforms and
interdependent hardware and software configurations, we can only
describe specific installations. It is not possible to document all settings
and dependencies.
When you combine various technologies, please observe the
manufacturers' instructions, particularly announcements concerning
releases on their Internet pages. We cannot guarantee proper
functioning and installation of approved third-party systems and do not
support them. Always follow the instructions provided in the installation
manuals of the relevant manufacturers. If you experience difficulties,
please contact the relevant manufacturer.
If you require help when installing third-party systems, we recommend
that you commission IDS Scheer Support to set them up. Please note
that this type of manufacturer-specific or customer-specific change is
not subject to the standard IDS Scheer AG software maintenance
agreement and that these changes can only be performed if you
requested and agreed on them.

2 Introduction
ARIS Business Publisher is integrated in the Administration module of
ARIS Business Architect and ARIS Business Architect for SAP. With these
products, administrators can create (Page 37) exports of your ARIS
databases after you have installed ARIS Business Publisher Server (Page
4).
ARIS Business Publisher Servers manage every Publisher export. A
Publisher export is a Web application based on J2EE. Java Servlets and
Java Server Pages (JSP) are used, which, in addition to a Java
environment (JDK), require a Web application server (for example
Apache Tomcat) as runtime environment. The data is held in a
relational database system and is exchanged with the program via a
JDBC interface.
The Derby database system and Apache Tomcat Web Application
Server are automatically installed when you select the standard
installation for ARIS Business Publisher Server. With this database
system, up to 10 users can access a Publisher export simultaneously.
Swimlane models cannot be exported optimally using a Derby database.
For a larger number of users, you need a different database system such
as the Oracle (Page 22) database system or MS SQL Server 2005
(Page 18). Depending on the ARIS Business Publisher Server license
purchased, these systems enable all users to simultaneously work on a
Publisher export.
Quick Start Guide
2
After the standard installation, reports are run by ARIS Business
Publisher Server. You can additionally install a Report Server to optimize
system performance when running reports.
You use ARIS Business Publisher with Publisher export (Page 75) and
HTML export (Page 75) just like ARIS Web Publisher to publish modeled
processes and other content. While ARIS Web Publisher publishes
business processes statically, you can use ARIS Business Publisher to
publish process portals dynamically. You can both integrate ARIS
Business Publisher into an enterprise portal and adapt its appearance to
your company's corporate design.
A Publisher export offers the following advantages over an HTML export
On-demand generation of dynamic process portals
Integration into ARIS Business Architect
Administration of ARIS Business Publisher Servers
Wizard-based management of exports (create, edit, enable, disable
exports)
Export several export languages at the same time
Target group-oriented and role-based representation of process
content (access control)
Significant reduction in export times and high-performance access to
process information

3 Procedure
3.1 ARIS Business Publisher Server
To create a Publisher export, you need an ARIS Business Publisher
Server. This chapter contains information about installation and
configuration.
Note
Due to methodological and functional changes, you may no longer be
able to open an existing Publisher export. If this happens, you must
perform exports again. The browser caches should be cleared after an
update installation.
3.1.1 Install ARIS Business Publisher Server (standard installation)
5
After the standard installation, reports are run by ARIS Business
Publisher Server. You can additionally install a Report Server to optimize
system performance when running reports.
To use another approved Web application server or database system,
please follow the installation instructions or contact our support (Page
115) team.
This procedure describes the standard installation of Apache Tomcat
Web Application Server if you are using a Derby database. With this
database system, up to 10 users can access exports simultaneously.
Swimlane models cannot be exported optimally using a Derby database.
For a larger number of users, you need a different database system such
as the Oracle (Page 22) database system or MS SQL Server 2005
(Page 18). Depending on the ARIS Business Publisher Server license
purchased, these systems enable all users to simultaneously work on
exports.

debug="0" reloadable="false" crossContxt="true">
<Resource name="jdbc/businesspublisherdb" auth="Container"
type="javax.sql.DataSource"
maxActive="30" maxIdle="30" maxWait="1000"
initialSize="10"
username="ARISBP" password="ARISBP"
driverClassName="org.apache.derby.jdbc.ClientDriver"
url="jdbc:derby://localhost:16092/ARISBP;create=true;user
=ARISBP"/>
</Context>
3. Open the configuration file
..\BPServer\tomcat\webapps\businesspublisher\config\webappserv
er.cfg.
4. Ensure that you have adjusted the entries for DatabaseDAOClass
as follows:
<env-entry>
<description>The IDatabaseDAO Implementation
Class</description>
<env-entry-name>DatabaseDAOClass</env-entry-name>
<env-entry-type>java.lang.String</env-entry-type>
<env-entry-value>com.idsscheer.aris.businesspublisher.application.d
ao.database.ADerbyDAO</env-entry-value>
</env-entry>
Now the Apache Tomcat Web Application Server is using the Derby

change the value from false to true.
8. Save the change and restart ARIS Business Publisher Server.
The password is now encrypted.
3.1.2.10 Update a license key
The license key or hardware key (Page 7) for ARIS Business Publisher
Server also controls the number of users who can access a Publisher
export simultaneously. This license key was entered when ARIS Business
Publisher Server was installed.
You need to update the license key, e.g. if you have purchased a new
license key that allows a larger number of users. You can identify the
license key by the Pd and Uxx (number of users allowed) codes, e.g.
C99999-XXX_Business_Publisher-V71LdeLenPdU250-XXXX...
Prerequisite
You have access privileges for the ARIS Business Publisher Server
installation directory.

3.1.2.13 Configure navigation carousel
To display the navigation carousel in exports, a structuring model must
be modeled (Page 33) in the database.
Ensure that the configuration file <ARIS Business Publisher Server
installation
directory>\tomcat\webapps\businesspublisher\layouts\default\config\as
pectOrientedEntry.cfg.xml is configured for evaluation (Page 21) of
the modeled (Page 33) structuring model. This setting is selected by
default. You do not have to customize this file unless it has been
changed after installation.
Procedure
1. Open the file in an editor.
2. Ensure that the values of the keys are maintained as follows:
<aoeDefinition exportName="*"
isVisible="true"
and
<aoeDefinition exportName="no export"
isVisible="true"
Changes to this file take effect immediately without restarting ARIS
Business Publisher Server.
Tip
You can also offer the navigation carousel without a structuring model.
IDS Scheer Customized Solutions (http://www.ids-scheer.com) will be
pleased to help you with the implementation.
3.1.2.14 Display news
The News section in the Home module is used in the standard export
as an example. If you have knowledge of RSS feed and XML
programming, you can insert links in this area.
Prerequisite
You have access privileges for the ARIS Business Publisher Server
installation directory.
Quick Start Guide
22
Procedure
1. Open the file
\BPServer\tomcat\webapps\businesspublisher\layouts\default\config\
layout.cfg.xml with your editor.

is_news/aris_news.xml" proxyAdress="hades.ids-scheer.de"
proxyPort="3103"
refresh="600"/>
</news>
3. Save your changes.
Tip
The News area can be customized to meet your requirements. IDS
Scheer Customized Solutions (http://www.ids-scheer.com) will be
pleased to help you with the implementation. For example, you can keep
a list of links to the models or objects that have been changed or
created since a specific date.
3.1.2.15 Use an Oracle database (Tomcat)
Please adjust your system as required to run ARIS Business Publisher in
combination with Apache Tomcat Web application server and an Oracle
database.
Prerequisite
You have created an Oracle database and configured it as follows. If
you install a database yourself, always follow the instructions
provided in the Oracle Installation Guide. We recommend that you
use two separate Oracle databases for ARIS Business Server and
ARIS Business Publisher. This keeps the two systems from competing
for resources, and you achieve better performance and higher
availability.
Use of the database character set AL32UTF8 is mandatory.
We recommend a block size of 8K.
query_rewrite_enabled=true
query_rewrite_integrity=trusted
Quick Start Guide
23
You have created two tablespaces: ARISBPDATA (for table data)
and ARISBPINDEX (for index data). To use other names or
existing tablespaces, you must customize the configuration file
webappserver.cfg (see below). We recommend that you set the
tablespaces for automatic, unlimited growth. Otherwise, you run
the risk of completely exhausting the memory in the tablespaces,
which may cause important functions of ARIS Business Server
and ARIS Business Publisher to fail. If the option for automatic
growth is not set, regular monitoring (e.g. weekly) of the Oracle
instance is required to ensure that the tablespaces are manually
increased on time.
You have created an Oracle user that ARIS Business Publisher can
use to connect to the database. The name of the Oracle user is
assumed to be ARISBP. You can select any password. Enter it in
the configuration file businesspublisher.xml (see below). If you
prefer another name, change the name there as well:
CREATE USER ARISBP IDENTIFIED BY ARISBP;
The Oracle user must have the following privileges
GRANT CREATE SESSION TO ARISBP;
GRANT ALTER SESSION TO ARISBP;
GRANT CREATE TABLE TO ARISBP;
GRANT CREATE VIEW TO ARISBP;
GRANT QUERY REWRITE TO ARISBP;
ALTER USER ARISBP QUOTA UNLIMITED ON ARISBPDATA;
ALTER USER ARISBP QUOTA UNLIMITED ON ARISBPINDEX;
We recommend that you turn off the Oracle recycle bin because
large quantities of tables accumulate there when exports are
deleted.
Procedure
1. Open the file businesspublisher.xml in the ARIS Business Publisher
Server installation directory
..\BPServer\tomcat\conf\catalina\localhost\ with a text
editor.
Quick Start Guide
24
2. Ensure that the following entries are maintained:

6. Ensure that the JDBC driver ojdbc5.jar exists in the ARIS Business
Publisher Server installation directory
..\BPServer\tomcat\common\lib. We assume that you are using
version 10.2.0.3. You find the file on the installation media.
Note
If you want to install all technical and/or business system functions

The installation program automatically enters 9090 as the port. To use
another free port on your Web server, you need to enter the required
port in the Tomcat Server Port box.
Prerequisite
You have access privileges for the ARIS Business Publisher Server
installation directory.
Procedure
1. Open the file server.xml in the ARIS Business Publisher Server
installation directory ..\BPServer\tomcat\conf with a text editor.
2. In the following line, change the value for the port number:
<Connector port="9090" />.
3. Save the change and close the file.
The change takes effect only after you have restarted ARIS Business
Publisher Server.
3.1.2.17 Make SAP Java Connector (SAPJCO) available for
ARIS Business Publisher
If you run transactions from a Publisher export and open the project
documentation from SAP Solution Manager the Business Publisher
administrator must adapt the configuration file webappserver.cfg and
provide (Page 26) relevant files. Depending on the set configuration you
can connect to your SAP systems either with or without wpsetup.exe.
The connection is configured with wpsetup.exe by default. If you keep
this configuration, you do not need to adapt the configuration file
webappserver.cfg.
To use the connection without wpsetup.exe, you must provide the files
as described below.
Procedure
Download the files appropriate for your operating system from SAP AG
Service Marketplace (http://service.sap.com/connectors), and install
SAP Java Connector. For licensing reasons, it cannot be installed
automatically.
Quick Start Guide
27
1. Depending on your installation, copy the file sapjco.jar to the
corresponding <ARIS Business Publisher Server directory
..\layouts\extensions\sap_cxn.
If you have run the standard installation, the directory is:
<ARIS Business Publisher Server installation
directory>\tomcat\webapps\businesspublisher\layouts\exte
nsions\sap_cxn.
2. Save the current version of the files sapjcorfc.dll and librfc32.dll in
a directory that is accessible for all Publisher export users.
The files sapjcorfc.dll and librfc32.dll must be copied to the
directory <Windows installation directory>\system32 on each
computer. If the program SAP Logon is installed on your PC and a
current librfc32.dll already exists, please keep that. If you are
using a different operating system, such as Solaris, please follow the
corresponding download packages from SAP AG.
3. Ensure that the file SAPLOGON.INI is available for all users.
After system restart, the function is available.
3.1.2.18 Configure views for models
The number of views available to users as links in the Contents module
varies according to the system configuration and model types.
Administrators can change the links available for selection.
Note
If you change configuration files, please note the XML structure.
We recommend that you ask IDS Scheer
(http://www.ids-scheer.com) to change your configuration.
Prerequisite
You have access privileges for the ARIS Business Publisher Server
installation directory.
Procedure
1. Open the file default_visualisation.xml in the <installation
directory of ARIS Business Publisher
Server>\tomcat\webapps\businesspublisher\views\visualisation with
a text editor.
2. First save the file with a different name, e.g., by adding _original, or
save the file in a different directory. This will allow you later to
restore your current configuration if needed.
Quick Start Guide
28
3. Change the file according to your requirements. You will find
information about this in the file.
4. Save the file with the original name.
5. Exit ARIS Business Publisher Server. To do this, click on the stop.bat
file in the installation directory of ARIS Business Publisher Server.
6. Wait until the server has shut down, and restart ARIS Business
Publisher Server.
The new functionality is available in new exports.
3.1.2.19 Change icons
Icons are used for linked files saved in the in the subdirectory icons of
your ARIS Business Publisher Server installation directory. Icons of
Microsoft Office products and many other applications and systems, e.g.,
Windows system files, Web environment, Acrobat Reader, audio, video,
Lotus Notes, etc., are displayed automatically. For these applications,
you do not need any icons in the directory noted above unless you want
to use your own icons.
You can change icons or add new ones. To create and edit icons in ICO
format, you need a suitable application. Assign file names that conform
with the extension of the relevant application.
To create icons that represent bitmap graphics, Lotus Notes or text files,
for example, save the graphics under the names bmp.ico, nsf.ico, and
txt.ico.
Added icons are immediately available.
3.1.2.20 Configure a connection to SAP systems
If you want to run transactions (Page 71) and open the project
documentation from SAP Solution Manager (Page 70) from a Publisher
export without using wpsetup.exe, you need to customize the
configuration file.
Prerequisite
You have access privileges for the ARIS Business Publisher Server
installation directory.
The wpsetup.exe file has been run on all computers. This file is
located in the directory ARIS Web Publisher/WPSetup on the
installation media. If necessary, contact your system administrator.
Quick Start Guide
29
With program version ARIS7.1 SR2009_5 and higher you can
connect to SAP systems without using the file wpsetup.exe. In this
case, the Business Publisher administrator must customize the file
webappserver.cfg and provide (Page 26) all required files.
Ensure that users register the required SAP servers. You can register
these using the file SAPLOGON.INI.
Ensure that the users have been created in the SAP system and have
RFC privileges. No distinction is made between users and technical
users. If you use SAP routers, you also need to define the
corresponding access privileges for the users. The special SAP ports
sapgw00 3300/tcp and sapdp00 3200/tcp must be enabled in
the Windows Services file of the client computer and when using SAP
routers because they are responsible for the RFC access of the SAP
system. In general, these ports are added to the Services file
automatically during SAP GUI installation. If several SAP systems are
connected, additional ports need to be enabled to accommodate the
systems (3301 and 3201, 3302 and 3202, etc.).
Note
If you are using wpsetup.exe and the dialog is not displayed correctly
when starting SAP transactions from a Publisher export, open the Java
Control Panel, and disable the Enable the next-generation Java
Plug-in check box under Java Plug-in on the Advanced tab.
Procedure
1. Open the file webappserver.cfg in the ARIS Business Publisher
Server installation directory
..\BPServer\tomcat\webapps\businesspublisher\config\ with
a text editor.
2. Find the <sap_connectivity> tag.
a. Set the value <switch value="on"/> to provide the pop-up menus
Run transaction and Solution Manager documentation.
b. Set the value <switch value="off"/> in order not to provide these
pop-up menus.
3. Find the <sap_storepassword> tag. The following settings are
taken into account only if you connect to SAP systems using
wpsetup.exe.
a. Set the value <switch value="on"/> to store the password for
further sessions.
Quick Start Guide
30
b. Set the value <switch value="off"/>. When a user selects the
pop-up menus Run transaction or Solution Manager
documentation, the login for further actions is performed
automatically.
4. Find the <sap_newbpcon> tag.
a. Set the value <switch value="on"/> in order to establish a
connection to SAP systems without wpsetup.exe. This option is
available from SR_2009_5.
If you select this setting, you must subsequently provide files
(Page 26).
b. Set the value <switch value="off"/> if you want to continue
using wpsetup.exe (default setting).
Please ensure that a local SAP GUI for Windows installation exists
on all computers. To run transactions, you need one of the
following SAP systems in one of the following languages: German
(de), English (en), French (fr), Spanish (sp), or Japanese
(ja).
The file wpsetup.exe must be executed on all computers. This
file is located in the directory ARIS Web Publisher/WPSetup
on the installation media.
5. Save the changes and restart ARIS Business Publisher Server.
After you exported the database content, users can run SAP
transactions, for example.
3.1.3 Run ARIS Business Publisher Server
For a larger number of users, you need a different database system such
Quick Start Guide
31
as the Oracle (Page 22) database system or MS SQL Server 2005
(Page 18). Depending on the ARIS Business Publisher Server license
purchased, these systems enable all users to simultaneously work on a
Publisher export.
After the standard installation, reports are run by ARIS Business
Publisher Server. You can additionally install a Report Server to optimize
system performance when running reports.
To use another approved Web application server or database system,
please follow the installation instructions or contact our support (Page
115) team.
Prerequisite
You have access privileges for the installation directory.
Procedure
1. Ensure that ARIS Business Publisher Server is correctly configured
(Page 8).
2. Launch the server by using the start.bat file in the ARIS Business
Publisher Server installation directory, or launch the ARIS Business
Publisher service (Control Panel/Administrative
Tools/Services).
Once the server has been launched, you can establish a connection
(Page 32) in ARIS Business Architect. Then you can create a Publisher
Quick Start Guide
32
export. Ensure that ARIS Business Publisher Server is not exited.
Otherwise, users will no longer be able to use exports.
3.2 ARIS Business Architect
This chapter describes how to create a Publisher export with ARIS
Business Architect.
3.2.1 Change password (ARIS Business Publisher)
Any user who knows the Publisher administrator password can create
exports (Page 37) or update exports (Page 42). After installation, the
password is BPADMIN. Please note that the password is case sensitive.
We recommend that you change (Page 32) the password immediately to
prevent unauthorized actions.
Only administrators who authenticate themselves with this password can
create (Page 37) or update a Publisher export. If you entered the
password in the Options/Log in dialog and enabled the Use defaults
check box, the password request is skipped. You can then perform
actions without identifying yourself as an administrator. If other users
also use your computer, you should not enable automatic logon to
prevent unauthorized access.
Procedure
1. In the Modules bar, click on Administration.
2. Right-click on a server in the Navigation bar and select Change
password/Publisher administrator.
3. Enter the passwords in the appropriate fields and click on OK.
The change takes effect when you have restarted the program.
3.2.2 Establish a connection to a Publisher Server
To be able to create a Publisher export, you must establish a connection
between ARIS Business Server and a Publisher Server.
If you are creating an HTML export, you need the connection to check
the license. If there is no connection, you must enter the license key
from the Publisher Server.
Procedure
1. Ensure that the Publisher Server has been launched.
2. In the Modules bar, click on Administration.
Quick Start Guide
33
3. Click on the desired ARIS Business Server in the Navigation bar.
4. Click on Publisher Server in the Navigation bar.
5. Click on Add server in the Publisher Server bar.
6. Specify the Publisher Server name and enable the Test connection
check box. The name of the server can be obtained from your system
administrator.
7. Click on OK.
The connection is established. If a connection cannot be established, a
corresponding message is displayed. In this case, contact your system
administrator.
3.2.3 Model navigation carousel
The navigation carousel is a modern type of navigation. Users of exports
use it to navigate to the models based on aspects. The symbols allow
you to open assigned start models.
To have the navigation carousel displayed in the Home module of
exports, you model it in a structuring model. In the demo database, the
start model is adapted for this purpose.
Prerequisite
You have the Write access privilege for the groups in which the model
and objects are managed.
Procedure
1. In the Designer module, right-click on the structuring model and
select Attributes. In this example, the start model of the demo
database is used.

2. Ensure that the value AOEM is maintained for the
Remark/Example attribute. As a result, this structuring model is
used as the basis of the navigation carousel.
3. Open a structuring model, and select the objects that you want to
use in the carousel.
4. Press F8. Attribute Editing opens. All attributes of the selected
objects are displayed side by side in the language you used to log in.
If you click on the Select Language button, you can display
additional languages in Attribute Editing to maintain the values in
several languages at the same time.
Quick Start Guide
35
5. For each object, maintain the Remark/Example attribute in each
language with the assigned attribute value in English.
A specific value is assigned to each symbol intended for display in the
carousel:
This symbol is displayed if you maintain the value
Product/Service.
This symbol is displayed if you maintain the value Risk.
This symbol is displayed if you maintain the value
Continuity.
This symbol is displayed if you maintain the value World.
This symbol is displayed if you maintain the value
Processes.
This symbol is displayed if you maintain the value
Business-Strategy.
This symbol is displayed if you maintain the value
IT-Portfolio.
This symbol is displayed if you maintain the value
Compliance.
This symbol is displayed if you maintain the value
Organization.
This symbol is displayed if you maintain the value
Data-Management.
Quick Start Guide
36
This symbol is displayed if you maintain the value Roles.
The objects are only displayed if the values are maintained exactly as
they are provided here and without spaces and line breaks.
6. Ensure that each object has a model assigned. This model opens
when users click on the corresponding carousel symbol. If no model
is assigned, maintain the system attribute Link 1 for the relevant
link.
7. Ensure that the configuration file <ARIS Business Publisher Server
installation
directory>\tomcat\webapps\businesspublisher\layouts\default\config
\aspectOrientedEntry.cfg.xml is configured for evaluation (Page
21) of the modeled (Page 33) structuring model. This setting is
selected by default. You do not have to customize this file unless it
has been changed after installation.
Once you have performed (Page 37) a Publisher export of this database,
the navigation carousel is displayed on the Home page.
Note
The objects are only displayed in the carousel if the following conditions
are met:
The attribute value is maintained exactly as provided here.
Either the objects have a model assigned, or the system attribute
Link 1 is uniquely (Page 82) maintained.
If you maintain links, they need to be included in your profile (Page
39).
If several models are assigned to an object, the first assignment is
always used.
If assignments and links are maintained, only the assignment is
used.
If several links are maintained, only Link 1 is used.
Tip
You can also offer the navigation carousel without a structuring model.
IDS Scheer Customized Solutions (http://www.ids-scheer.com) will be
pleased to help you with the implementation.

3.2.4 Maintain e-mail address
If you maintain e-mail addresses for users, they can receive feedback if
they are process managers, for example.
Prerequisite
You have the User management function privilege.
Procedure
1. Click on Administration in the Modules bar, and log in to the
database.
2. Right-click on the User database item and select Attributes.
3. Maintain the address for the E-mail address attribute type.
4. Save your changes.
If a user clicks on Enter feedback in the Publisher export, a feedback
e-mail is automatically generated and sent to the maintained address. It
includes the path and model name. Feedback ensures that processes are
continuously improved.
3.2.5 Publish databases as a Publisher export
ARIS Business Publisher enables you to provide the entire content of a
database dynamically as a portal. In each Publisher export, user access
is customized in the Administration section. In the Administration
module, you can manage exports either at the database level or on each
Publisher Server.
Portals are essential items for integrating business processes and
company information systems. They function as a process interface for
the company both outwards to customers, partners, and suppliers, and
internally to the company's own staff. Portals pool the business
information provided by all services. They are displayed in an
aggregated form. Information is protected from unauthorized access and
is thus only accessible to specific users or user groups.
Prerequisite
Ensure that:
at least one Publisher Server has been configured (Page 8) and
started.
a Publisher Server has been added (Page 32) to an ARIS Business
Server.
Quick Start Guide
38
at least one user group has been created in the ARIS database. This
user group controls access to the Publisher export.
all users who can open the Publisher export in their browser are
assigned to this user group. For each user group, an access profile is
created that users can log in with.
access privileges for the groups whose content is to be displayed in
the Publisher export are assigned to this user group. The access
privileges of individual users are not taken into account.
method filters are assigned to this user group. For each method
filter, an access profile is created that users can log in with.
the user who creates the export has the Database export function
privilege and can authenticate himself or herself as an administrator
(Page 78).
a profile is defined (Page 39) on the Publisher export profiles
(View/Options) options page.
You have maintained all required attributes, e.g. the e-mail
addresses for the feedback function (Page 37) or DMS links.
You have created (Page 33) the model for making the navigation
carousel available and changed (Page 21) the configuration file.
Procedure
1. In the Modules bar, click on Administration.
2. Right-click on the database in the tree view, and then click on
Publish/As Publisher export.
If you have enabled automatic login (View/Options/Log in/Use
defaults), and the correct publisher administrator password is
entered in the Publisher box, manual authentication is skipped.
3. Follow the instructions in the wizard. Help on using wizards and
dialogs is available directly in the user interface. If you activate the
Help tab (F1) instead of the Steps tab in the wizard, you are
assisted in entering information.
4. After the procedure has terminated, change (Page 40) the release
status.
Only then is the export available to users in the browser.
5. Enter the URL for ARIS Business Publisher Server in the address field
of your browser, e.g., http://localhost:9090/businesspublisher,
and log in again with your user name and password to check the
export content.
Quick Start Guide
39
To correct any errors found, you can edit (Page 42) and update (Page
42) the export, or delete (Page 43) it and create a new one.
Tip
You can also create exports on the Exports tab using the New button.
You find the tab in the Administration module,
if you open an ARIS Business Server structure in the Navigation bar
and click on the Publish/Publisher Server group
if you open a database structure in the Navigation bar and click on
Publisher exports.
Note
If you create a Publisher export and use links to large files (>15 MB),
you may need more memory for your ARIS Business Server. If the
memory is insufficient, the export process is canceled.
3.2.5.1 Create Publisher export profiles
Profiles are used to define the model appearance, as well as the number
of enlargement increments, the sorting options in tables, and links to
documents, URLs, and systems that can be run in the export. Some
standard profiles were created automatically. Profiles are taken into
account when you create (Page 37) an export.
Procedure
1. Click on View/Options.
2. In the tree view, click on Publisher export profiles.
3. Click on New.
4. Follow the instructions in the wizard. Help on using wizards and
dialogs is available directly in the user interface. If you activate the
Help tab (F1) instead of the Steps tab in the wizard, you are
assisted in entering information.
5. Close the options page.
The profile is available for you in the wizard.
Note
You can change Publisher export profiles. The changes take effect only
when you create new exports. When updating (Page 42) exports, the
original profiles are used.

and activate them again.
With Oracle version 10.2.0.3.0, it may not be possible to delete
exports. In this case, please install Oracle 10.2.0.4.0.
3.2.5.8 Start SAP transactions and R/3 help
If the following prerequisites for a Publisher export are met, you can
start SAP transactions and the R/3 help with the Internet browser and
open project documents.
1. Ensure that the connection to your SAP system has been enabled by
the appropriate license key. To add this function to your license,
please contact IDS Scheer AG (Page 115).
2. Ensure that transaction codes are maintained in the database (SAP
attributes; system attribute transaction code).
3. Ensure that you have customized the configuration file.
Run the file wpsetup.exe on all computers that access an HTML or
Publisher export. This file is located in the directory ARIS Web
Publisher/WPSetup on the installation media. You can also provide
the file on the intranet. This enables all employees to run the file
themselves.
Quick Start Guide
44
Note
If the dialog is not displayed correctly when starting SAP transactions
from a Publisher export, open the Java Control Panel and disable the
Enable the next-generation Java Plug-in check box under Java
Plug-in on the Advanced tab.
If, for example, you download a project from SAP Solution Manager,
models are generated automatically. Layout generation starts
automatically once you open these models. If models are not
represented correctly in a Publisher export, open and save the models
and then restart the Publisher export.
3.2.6 Publish models as HTML export
Publish process models and documentation as HTML pages
independently of platforms and operating systems via the Internet or
your intranet. You do not need any extensive network installation or
expensive computer equipment for worldwide sharing of business
processes. You do not need a Publisher Server. If you document your
business processes in different project groups or if employees work at
different locations, each project employee can quickly and easily access
company process models.
Prerequisite
You have the Database export function privilege.
You can authenticate yourself as an administrator (Page 78).
A profile is defined (Page 39) on the Publisher export profiles
options page (View/Options).
You have access to the Publisher Server license key.
If you are connected (Page 32) to a Publisher Server, the license is
checked automatically.
You have maintained all required attributes, e.g. the e-mail
addresses for the feedback function (Page 37) or DMS links. SAP
transactions and Lotus Notes links will not be included.
Procedure
1. In the Administration module, right-click on a database you have
logged in to, then click on Publish/As an HTML export.
Quick Start Guide
45
2. Select the export options:

attributes are not maintained in that language, the Alternative
language is used.
b. Evaluation filter: Evaluation filter you can use to restrict the
output. All evaluation filters are displayed.
c. Path: Path to the directory in which the generated HTML pages
are saved. By default, the directory displayed is used. To select
the relevant directory, click on the Browse (...) button.
d. Include hierarchies: Automatically exports all assigned models
up to the selected assignment level.
e. Assignment level: The level to which assignments are to be
included during export. If you have enabled the Include
hierarchies check box, select the assignment level here (values
between 1 and 100).
f. Layout: Name of the HTML layout you want to use for the export.
You can manage HTML layouts in the Administration module
under Publish/HTML layouts/<name of layout>.
g. Navigation tree: Specifies the data view in the navigation tree,
which is displayed in the HTML export. Select a JS file that creates
the relevant navigation tree. By default, the group view (Page 76)
is generated. You can also create a hierarchical view (Page 76).
h. Update: Adds individual or multiple models and groups to an
existing HTML export and updates it. By default, this option is
disabled.
i. Overwrite export: Overwrites the existing export with the
selected content and deletes all previous pages.
3. Click on Next and select the models to be published:
a. Publish all models: Exports all models of the database in HTML
format.
b. Publish selected models: Exports only models that you select
in the structure. You can activate individual models or groups. If
you activate groups, all models of the group and subgroups will
be included.
Quick Start Guide
46
4. Click on Next and define the scope of the object information pages:
a. Output object information: Creates object information pages
for the models to be exported. By default, this option is enabled.
In the wizard, this option enables you to activate objects for
which information is to be displayed. If you need model
information only, disable the check box. No object information
pages are generated. This reduces the number of pages
generated.
b. Object types: Creates object information for each object of this
type. When users click on an object in the export, the object
information maintained is displayed on various tabs.
5. Click on Next, and check the settings in the summary. Click on
Finish.
The export is created. After publication is complete, you can display the
results.
3.2.7 Create HTML layout
HTML exports (Page 75) are created based on an HTML layout. You can
create your own layouts.
Prerequisite
You can authenticate yourself as an administrator (Page 78).
A profile is defined (Page 39) on the Publisher export profiles
options page (View/Options).
Procedure
1. In the Administration module, right-click on Publish/HTML
layouts and then click on New.
2. Specify the name of the new layout and select a base layout to serve
as the basis for the new layout.
3. Click on OK. The new layout is created. All the content of the
selected base layout is copied.
4. Now you can adjust the content by exporting, editing, and importing
files.
For example, you can replace graphics and adjust frames. IDS Scheer

3.3.9 Manage profiles
Users log in with the profile they have been assigned by their
administrator.
Profiles combine access privileges, method filters and users. An access
profile specifies the content a user can access in a <Web_Export>. The
profile name consists of the name of the export and the relevant method
filter. For every user group and every method filter selected when
creating the export, a profile is created. Access privileges determine
which content a user sees. Manage the profiles in your area of
responsibility.
Click on the Profiles module. The list displays all profiles that you
manage.
You can activate or lock both profiles and exports. If you select
Anonymous, users can only log in anonymously. The profile is
automatically locked.
Quick Start Guide

3.3.10 Manage reports
Administrators can manage reports in the administration interface of
exports.
Prerequisite
You have exported report scripts and observed the following:
The reports only evaluate the contexts Database, Group, Model, or
Object.
The reports do not call any dialogs.
The reports only require read access to items.
If you use a report template to create the reports in design view, the
prerequisites mentioned above are automatically met.
The reports only contain methods allowed for ARIS Business
Publisher. The available methods are identified in the ARIS
Script/Client object model (report) help.
Note
Normally, you cannot use the report scripts provided with ARIS. Most of
these reports are interactive and use methods that are not supported by
ARIS Business Publisher. If the prerequisites for ARIS Business Publisher
reports are not met, an error message is output during report execution.
Tip
If you click on Help/ARIS Script/Client object model (report) in
ARIS Business Architect and enter the search term This method is also
available in Business Publisher Report, the search result returns all
methods you can use in ARIS Business Publisher reports.
Procedure
Add report

4 Valuable information
4.1 What are the advantages of ARIS Business
Publisher?
74
After the standard installation, reports are run by ARIS Business
Publisher Server. You can additionally install a Report Server to optimize
system performance when running reports.
You use ARIS Business Publisher with Publisher export (Page 75) and
HTML export (Page 75) just like ARIS Web Publisher to publish modeled
processes and other content. While ARIS Web Publisher publishes
business processes statically, you can use ARIS Business Publisher to
publish process portals dynamically. You can both integrate ARIS
Business Publisher into an enterprise portal and adapt its appearance to
your company's corporate design.
A Publisher export offers the following advantages over an HTML export
On-demand generation of dynamic process portals
Integration into ARIS Business Architect
Administration of ARIS Business Publisher Servers
Wizard-based management of exports (create, edit, enable, disable
exports)
Export several export languages at the same time
Target group-oriented and role-based representation of process
content (access control)
Significant reduction in export times and high-performance access to
process information
Quick Start Guide
75
Seamless integration into corporate portals, single sign-on,
connection to existing user management (e.g. LDAP)
Flexible and individually expandable language concept for
multilingual access
Operational integration with Office products, document management
systems, SAP, etc.
Flexible customizing
Report output
4.2 What is a Publisher export?
ARIS Business Publisher enables you to provide the entire content of a
database dynamically as a portal. In each Publisher export, user access
is customized in the Administration section. In the Administration
module, you can manage exports either at the database level or on each
Publisher Server.
Portals are essential items for integrating business processes and
company information systems. They function as a process interface for
the company both outwards to customers, partners, and suppliers, and
internally to the company's own staff. Portals pool the business
information provided by all services. They are displayed in an
aggregated form. Information is protected from unauthorized access and
is thus only accessible to specific users or user groups.
4.3 What is an HTML export?
Publish process models and documentation as HTML pages
independently of platforms and operating systems via the Internet or
your intranet. You do not need any extensive network installation or
expensive computer equipment for worldwide sharing of business
processes. You do not need a Publisher Server. If you document your
business processes in different project groups or if employees work at
different locations, each project employee can quickly and easily access
company process models.
Unlike Publisher export (Page 75), all content is exported and displayed.
SAP transactions and Lotus Notes links will not be included.
Quick Start Guide
76
4.3.1 What is the group view?
Standard view for HTML exports. Users of the export can easily access
all exported data.
The content you selected for the HTML export is displayed. If you have
opened a model, the name of the model is highlighted in color in the
navigation tree.
You select the view provided in the navigation tree in the HTML Export
Wizard.
Tip
If you have programming knowledge in Java Script and ARIS Script,
you can define other views by means of JS files. These views must be
created in line with specific rules. IDS Scheer Customized Solutions
(http://www.ids-scheer.com) will be pleased to help you with the
implementation.
4.3.2 What is the hierarchical view?
Maps models and no groups.
Users can easily go to all process models without losing an overview.
Assigned models are represented on a subordinate level. If you have
opened a model, the name of the model is highlighted in color in the
navigation tree.

Quick Start Guide
77
4.4 What are export views in a Publisher export?
An export view is the view an administrator has of a Publisher export. An
export view contains the database content with access privileges. It
displays all content for which user groups have access privileges. The
system administrator has an export view for each export. The system
administrator is able to change access profiles. He can create users and
assign them to groups and delegate management of the export view to
an administrator.
4.5 How to create a Publisher export
ARIS Business Publisher is integrated in the Administration module of
ARIS Business Architect and ARIS Business Architect for SAP. With these
products, administrators can create (Page 37) exports of your ARIS
databases after you have installed ARIS Business Publisher Server (Page

a Publisher Server has been added (Page 32) to an ARIS Business
Server.
at least one user group has been created in the ARIS database. This
user group controls access to the Publisher export.
all users who can open the Publisher export in their browser are

the user who creates the export has the Database export function
privilege and can authenticate himself or herself as an administrator
(Page 78).
a profile is defined (Page 39) on the Publisher export profiles
(View/Options) options page.
Quick Start Guide
78
Note
If you create a Publisher export and use links to large files (>15 MB),
you may need more memory for your ARIS Business Server. If the
memory is insufficient, the export process is canceled.
4.6 Who can create and update a Publisher export?
4.7 How to manage a Publisher export
After you have created an export in the Administration module of ARIS
Business Architect, you must activate it for users either at the database
level or on each Publisher Server.
After you have entered the URL (Publisher Server root
directory/<context>), log in as the system administrator (User: root;
Password: root).
The export view (administrator view) of the export opens. An export
view is the view an administrator has of a Publisher export. An export
view contains the database content with access privileges. It displays all
content for which user groups have access privileges. The system
administrator has an export view for each export. The system
administrator is able to change access profiles. He can create users and
assign them to groups and delegate management of the export view to
an administrator.
Note
Ensure that you change the system administrator's root password
immediately to prevent unauthorized access to the database content. To
do this, log in again as the root user and click on Change password.
Quick Start Guide
79
Warning
If you use an external authentication system to control login, make sure
that only authorized users can log in.
Tip
Further information is available in the ARIS Business Publisher
Administration online help.
4.8 Which roles are defined?
In a Publisher export, various administrator roles and ordinary users
exist. Administrator roles specify whether and to what extent a user can
perform administrative tasks.
The following roles are defined:
System administrator and administrator
The role of the system administrator (User: root; Password: root) is
based on the system user role familiar from other ARIS products.
Similarly, the system administrator has extensive privileges.
Note
Ensure that you change the system administrator's root password
immediately to prevent unauthorized access to the database content. To
do this, log in again as the root user and click on Change password.
Warning
If you use an external authentication system to control login, make sure
that only authorized users can log in.
An administrator (system administrator or administrator) manages a
certain quantity of users in every Publisher export.
The main task of an administrator is user management. This is done
using access profiles. Based on export views (Page 77), an administrator
can activate access profiles, lock them, or activate them for anonymous
access. The system administrator can edit all access profiles created in
the system. Only the system administrator can create additional
administrator roles and appoint owners. He is also able to appoint
substitutes.
Substitute
A substitute is a user who can take on an administrator role. To do this,
this user must not be the owner of an administrator role. Users with this
role must not be instructed by the owner that they represent to take
Quick Start Guide
80
over administration. They can take on the corresponding administrator
role actively after they have been appointed.
Users
User who logs in to the Publisher export with his or her user profile. The
user only sees the content necessary for his or her work. Thus exports
remain concise.
Users obtain the role of a user once they are assigned an access profile
by an administrator. Unlike the system user system, which can edit all
contents in ARIS, the user system only sees those contents in a
Publisher export that are defined in the user group.
Roles that specify the different privileges of a user for the published
content are summarized in access profiles.
Administrative tasks are not linked to a person but to a role. A user can
therefore hold several different administrator roles which simplifies
administration considerably. This also guarantees a clear structure and
distribution of areas of responsibility.
A user can therefore have and exercise several administrator roles the
system administrator assigned to him. Persons can be replaced easily.
4.9 What is an ARIS Business Publisher Server?
81
After the standard installation, reports are run by ARIS Business
Publisher Server. You can additionally install a Report Server to optimize
system performance when running reports.
You can update the license key at any time.
An ARIS Business Publisher Server must be assigned (Page 32) to an
ARIS Business Server for you to be able to create (Page 37) exports.
Ensure that ARIS Business Publisher Server is not exited. Otherwise,
users will no longer be able to use exports.
4.10 Which links can be run?
Depending on the scope of the product you have purchased, you can run
the following links (Page 82):
External links include links to Word documents, Excel spreadsheets,
digital photos, Internet or e-mail addresses, etc. that are linked
through the various attributes of an object. You select links to be
included in a Publisher export in the Profile Wizard
(View/Options/Publisher export profiles).
SAP transactions and R/3 help if certain prerequisites (Page 43) are
met.
Quick Start Guide
82
OLE links have been inserted as linked icons (Page 85) in a model.
Documents are displayed as icons in the model. They can be opened
if the appropriate OLE server was installed when they were
embedded.
Note
Links can be run if you observe the following:
Ensure that the necessary programs and OLE servers have been
installed on the computers (for example, MS Word for files with the
extension DOC, MS Excel for files with the extension XLS).
If you publish OLE objects whose file names are written in Japanese
characters in another language, e.g. de or en, the names will not be
displayed correctly. These files cannot be opened. To be able to open
the files, replace the Japanese (or other) file names with English
ones.
If you have enabled the Copy documents check box (Page 86) on
the Include links page of the Profile Wizard
(View/Options/Publisher export profiles) and started ARIS
Business Server as a service, ensure that your authorization concept
permits access to linked documents.
Ensure that names of linked documents or OLE documents do not
contain any spaces and that the file names are written in lower case
letters. Some browsers do not work correctly if this condition is not
met. Links will not be executed in that case.
4.11 When do links work?
A link (Page 81) is a connection between resources. When you click on a
link in a browser, the linked file is displayed. Many factors play a role in
this process, which can sometimes lead to errors. Ensure that all system
requirements are met and only the approved browsers are used. If, for
example, you install a security update for your browser that is not
approved by IDS Scheer, links may no longer work.
If you create a Publisher export and use links to large files (>15 MB),
you may need more memory for your ARIS Business Server. If the
memory is insufficient, the export process is canceled.
Using file servers is one way to exclude the possibility of faulty links. All
files that have been linked in databases are managed on a file server.
Quick Start Guide
83
Type of file (MIME type)
Not every browser can display all files. Some systems do not return files
without an extension, since the MIME type cannot be determined
directly. Access can also be limited to files of a specific type. Your
system administrator may have defined these restrictions in various
places:
Server
Operating system of the server
Client
Operating system of the client
Central settings (with Active Directory, etc.)
Proxy and its operating system
Correct notation
Depending on your system configuration, the notation of the link may
also cause errors. Generally, a URL is processed in 8-bit representation.
Unicode coding must be handled separately.
No problems should be expected if you:
Maintain links in English and without any spaces and special
characters
If you maintain links in languages such as Japanese, or with spaces
and special characters, etc., you must place these links in quotation
marks.
Links are no longer than 1024 characters.
Many systems cannot process more characters than that.
Type of link
Depending on the domain (Page 87) from which a link is started or to
which a link leads, a distinction must be made between local and
external links. Different errors may also occur depending on system and
security settings.
External links
Correctly written and absolute links pose no problems. All links to
files that were copied from ARIS Business Publisher to the ARIS
Business Publisher Server also work correctly. The browser handles
these as external links.
Quick Start Guide
84
Local links
All links to local files are subject to strict security restrictions. These
restrictions are not at all uniform and differ between various
browsers and different versions and patches. If, for example, you
install a security update for your browser that is not approved by IDS
Scheer, links may no longer work.
Syntax
Local link without drive link
The link file:///C:/Program Files/Internet
Explorer/readme.txt opens a file in the local directory structure
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\readme.txt
Local link with local drive link
The link file:///U:/ARIS/businesspublisher/tomcat
5.5.16/RUNNING.txt opens a file in the local directory structure
U:\ARIS\\businesspublisher\tomcat 5.5.16\RUNNING.txt,
with U representing a direct link to a local directory.
External link with network drive link
The link file:///V:/External/Version.txt opens a file in the
network structure V:\External\Version.txt, with V representing a
direct connection to a network drive.
UNC link (Universal Naming Convention)
UNC path
The link with a different syntax, for example,
file://SERVER/www/trace.txt,
file:///\\SERVER\www\trace.txt, or
file://///SERVER/www/trace.txt, opens a file in the drive
structure \\SERVER\www\trace.txt.
Direct access (i.e. without a drive link) to any resource in the
network is possible with a UNC path.
Security risks
Not every browser always makes interactive reference to possible
security risks. More frequently, functional links are blocked.
Firefox generates a message in the error console in these cases
(Tools/Error console), but does not distinguish between local and
external links. All local access is blocked automatically. You can remove
blocking of specific sites by customizing or creating the file
<drive>:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application

data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<GENERATED_NAME>.default\use
rs.js:
user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "localfilelinks");
user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.sites",
"http://pcsomeone");
user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.checkloaduri.enab
led", "allAccess");
Authorizations
Missing authorizations and the storage location of linked files may be
reasons for faulty links.
If locally saved files are linked in a database, these links cannot be
resolved if you use an ARIS Business Server. These links only work if
you manage the database on the local server local.
If you have enabled the Copy documents check box (Page 86) on
the Include links page of the Profile Wizard
(View/Options/Publisher export profiles) and started ARIS
Business Server as a service, ensure that your authorization concept
permits access to linked documents.
4.12 When are OLE objects provided?
You can make OLE objects available in a Publisher export if they have
been added in ARIS databases as linked icons. OLE objects that have not
been added as a linked icon cannot be started from exports.
Note
If you are using the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, certain
icons are not displayed.
You can avoid this problem if you set the color depth to 16 Bit under
Display in the Control Panel and select another icon when you insert the
OLE object. If an icon is displayed in the preview, it is also visible in
models.
4.13 When are placed symbols displayed (server)?
For example, if you run reports or create a Publisher export, the icons
that are saved in the icons subdirectory in the installation directory of
your ARIS Business Server are used for linked files. Icons of Microsoft
Office products are automatically displayed. For these applications, you
do not need any icons in the directory noted above unless you want to
use your own icons.
Quick Start Guide
86
You can change icons or add new ones. To create and edit icons in ICO
format, you need a suitable application. Assign file names that conform
with the extension of the relevant application.
To create icons that represent bitmap graphics, Lotus Notes or text files,
for example, save the graphics under the names bmp.ico, nsf.ico, and
txt.ico.
Added icons are immediately available. Once you have changed icons,
you must restart ARIS Business Server.
Note
If icons displayed in models are different from those in the report output
or in Publisher export, ensure that you have saved the corresponding
icons in the installation directory of your ARIS Business Server, in the
icons subdirectory.
If icons for placed attributes are missing there, they will not be displayed
in the Publisher export or report output.
4.14 What is meant by copying documents and
temporary file names?
When you create a Publisher export, all linked documents of a database
are copied. You can select this option in the Profile Wizard
(View/Options/Publisher export profiles).
If users open documents from a Publisher export, these copies are
displayed. Of course, file changes in the original documents are no
longer reflected if you use this process, since a link to the original file no
longer exists.
If you also enable the Temporary file names check box, documents
will not be overwritten. The risk of overwriting documents exists if files
with the same name but originating from different sources are linked.
For differentiation purposes, figures are appended to identical file
names. If you disable the check box you will overwrite files with identical
names when copying.
Note
If you have enabled the Copy documents check box (Page 86) on the
Include links page of the Profile Wizard (View/Options/Publisher
export profiles) and started ARIS Business Server as a service, ensure
that your authorization concept permits access to linked documents.
Quick Start Guide
87
By default, a service is started with the Local system account option.
The operating system uses an internal system user. However, this user
generally has no privileges (for example, for accessing file servers),
which results in incorrect links. Therefore, you should ensure that the
service is started by a user who has access privileges for all linked
documents.
4.15 What is a domain?
A domain as used in this context is a set of resources with identical
authorizations. Usually, the following domains exist:
Local
The user's computer on which the browser was opened.
Intranet
Computers/servers within a company that are protected by a firewall.
Internet
All other computers/servers
4.16 How to log in using LDAP systems
If you create (Page 37) a Publisher export, ARIS users, ARIS user
groups, and profiles (Page 52) are created automatically. These users
and user groups are ignored when using LDAP for authentication.
The administrator maps LDAP user groups and/or LDAP users to the
ARIS user groups exported from ARIS (Page 51).
Authentication and authorization are performed at login
The user is authenticated by the LDAP system if the user name and
password have been found and are correct.
The LDAP user groups that the user belongs to are determined.
For each of these LDAP user groups and for the LDAP user, the
system checks whether an ARIS user group is mapped. The result is
a list of ARIS user groups that refer to LDAP user groups for this
LDAP user.
The profiles available for these groups can be selected in the Log in
dialog. The privileges that are assigned when selecting a profile are
determined by the ARIS users who belong to that profile.
To quickly make additional profiles visible for an LDAP user, you can
map that user to an LDAP user group.
Quick Start Guide
88
Example
The LDAP BP reader user group has been created in the LDAP system.
This user group was assigned the ARIS BP reader ARIS user group. If
you add the New user to the LDAP BP reader user group in the LDAP
system, all profiles belonging to the ARIS BP reader ARIS user group
are available to this user when logging into ARIS Business Publisher.
Warning
If your LDAP server is set up so that it allows anonymous authentication
(unauthenticated bind mechanism), users may be able to log in without
a password.

4.17.3 What is ARIS Process Governance?
ARIS Process Governance enables you to design, run, and monitor BPM
processes in a single ARIS Repository. ARIS Process Governance enables
you to automate BPM processes and optimize the efficiency of your
company.
All information is recorded in business models such as EPCs,
value-added chain diagrams, and organizational charts. The
transformation into a technical process (BPMN) takes place
automatically.
ARIS Process Governance supports the lifecycle workflow of models and
compliance activities, for example.
Quick Start Guide
109
Advantages/Options
Design and automation of flexible BPM processes, in other words,
easy adjustment to new requirements.
Automation and implementation of new BPM processes without
involvement of the IT department.
Program-controlled task processing and deadline monitoring.
Monitoring of processes using KPIs to determine delays or
bottlenecks (ARIS Process Performance Manager). Improved process
transparency, quality, and flexibility as a result.
Optimization of the time required for the process cycle.
Cost savings as a result of minimized effort required for changes and
additions.
Notes
Models must be saved in the reference database for automation. This
database is located on your installation media.
The functions for ARIS Process Governance and ARIS Process
Automation Architect are enabled by a license key. You can use them
if you purchased the corresponding license key. The help text on
using the software is accessible without a license key.

4.17.4 How to display matrices
In the Contents module, you can display a matrix as a view of an open
model. If you want to create (Page 59) a matrix based on several
models, click on the Matrix module.
Administrators can configure (Page 16) the selection of available
aspects, the objects (object families) used in aspects, and the graphical
representation.
The following example shows a matrix that has been created in the
Matrix module and is based on several models and the
Organization/Function aspect.
In the first row, the aspect selected and models used are displayed. To
its right, the functions that occur are displayed. If you click on +/- below
a model name, the objects included are shown/hidden. In the first
column, the object families and objects defined in the aspect are
displayed. Object families are used to group objects of an aspect, e.g.
organizational units. You can show or hide the objects included by using
the +/- button. The selection of aspects and objects displayed depends
on your system configuration.
Quick Start Guide
111
At the intersections, the object relationships are indicated by check
marks or letters. An asterisk (*) means that multiple relationships exist.
If you move the mouse pointer over a symbol, objects that relate to it
and the corresponding connection are displayed.

Change password. You can now enter the new password.
4.18 Publisher export (administration)
This chapter describes the functions available to administrators in a
Publisher export. Once you have opened a Publisher export, an online
help is available.
4.18.1 How to change your password
In the Log in dialog, enter your user name and password and click on
Change password. You can now enter the new password.
Quick Start Guide
112
4.18.2 How to log in using LDAP systems
(unauthenticated bind mechanism), users may be able to log in without
a password.
4.18.3 Administrator roles module
The Administrator roles module is only available to the system
administrator and his substitutes. In the Administrator roles module,
you manage administrators (Page 49) who are subordinate to the
system administrator.
Quick Start Guide
113
Users with this
role must not be instructed by the owner that they represent to take
over administration.
Quick Start Guide
114
Roles that specify the different privileges of a user for the published
content are summarized in access profiles.
Administrative tasks are not linked to a person but to a role. A user can
therefore hold several different administrator roles which simplifies
administration considerably. This also guarantees a clear structure and
distribution of areas of responsibility.
A user can therefore have and exercise several administrator roles the
system administrator assigned to him. Persons can be replaced easily.
4.18.4 Reports module
In the Reports module, you make report scripts available (Page 53).
Users can run them for databases, groups, models, and objects. Only
reports that require no user interaction can be run.
4.18.5 My role module
You manage your administrator role in the My role module. If you click
on Edit, you can edit the fields, i.e. assign, change or delete owners and
substitutes, for example.
4.18.6 User module
In the Users module, you manage the users (Page 50) in your area of
responsibility. The system administrator can manage all users.
4.18.7 Profiles module
In the Profiles module, you manage the access profiles (Page 52) in
your area of responsibility. The system administrator can manage all
profiles.
Quick Start Guide
115
4.18.8 Groups module
In the Groups module, you manage the user groups (Page 51) in your
area of responsibility. The system administrator can manage all groups.
Different users are combined in user groups. In turn, these groups are
assigned profiles which all users in a group can use when logging in.
