For the week, Jefferson con-nected on an impressive 16-of-31 (.516)shots from the floor, grabbed 17 rebounds,seven of which were on the offensive end,and added four steals and three assists. "Ebonie is very deserving of this recogni-tion,” said ASU head coach Brian Boyer. “Ithought she played extremely well thisweek in all aspects of the game. Shescored, she rebounded the ball extremelywell, her defense was outstanding and shemade good decisions with the ball."

BREAKING A TREND: With their victory atNorth Texas Jan. 16, the Red Wolves pickedup their first victory of the season in whichan opponent won the battle on the boards.Heading into the game, the Red Wolveswere 0-9 on the season when being out-re-bounded by their opponent. North Texasout-rebounded Arkansas State 44-40 in thegame, but ASU came out on top 77-76.
WORKING OVERTIME: With their 67-60overtime victory over UT-Arlington Dec. 15,Arkansas State improved to 11-0 during theregular season in overtime games underhead coach Brian Boyer. Seven of thosegames have been played on the road, in-cluding this year’s 80-79 victory at KansasState and the Red Wolves’ 65-62 win atNorthern Arizona. Arkansas State’s threeovertime victories this season are the mostever in a single season for ASU. The RedWolves played three overtimes in threeprevious seasons (1983-84, 1989-90 and2002-03) but finished 2-1 in those gameseach year. Arkansas State has never playedfour overtime games in a single season. Inall overtime games played under Boyer, theRed Wolves stand at 11-2, falling to NewMexico State in double overtime in the2004 Sun Belt Conference Tournament andto New Orleans in the 2002 SBC Tourna-ment.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR SCHLUP – Seniorforward Lyndsay Schlup recorded the hersecond double-double of the season andthird of her career when she pulled down10 rebounds and scored 11 points againstFAU Jan. 23 in Boca Raton. Schlup alsorecorded a double-double earlier this sea-son with 16 points and 10 rebounds againstArkansas-Pine Bluff. Schlup continues tolead ASU on the boards this season with a7.9 rebounds per-game average, and her 10rebounds against FAU gave her six double-digit rebound games on the season.
EB ON A ROLL: After scoring seven pointsin ASU’s season opener at Creighton, seniorguard Ebonie Jefferson has scored in dou-ble figures in all but four of ASU’s gamessince, including double-doubles in the RedWolves’ wins over Northern Arizona andULL. Jefferson has been ASU’s leadingscorer in 15 of ASU’s 23 games this seasonand has five of the top eight individualscoring performances of the year for theRed Wolves. One week after earning all-tournament honors at the Nov. 20-21 SetonHall Classic, Jefferson scored a career-high27 points against Missouri State Nov. 27 tohelp her average a team-best 21.7 pointsin ASU’s three games during the week ofNov. 24-30. Jefferson opened her weekwith a 20-point performance againstLouisiana Tech, added 27 against MissouriState and finished the week with 18 atSaint Louis. For the week, Jefferson shot50% from the field (21-42), .821 from the
line (23-28) and averaged 5.7 rebounds pergame. She also added six steals, six assistsand a blocked shot. In Arkansas State’sonly game the following week, Jeffersonscored a game-high 23 points and com-pleted her second career double-doublewith 11 rebounds in ASU’s 65-62 overtimevictory at Northern Arizona Dec. 5. She hit9-of-14 shots from the field against theLumberjacks, five-of-7 from the line andadded three steals in the game. Jeffersonis closing in on the 1,000-point mark for hercareer as well. With 996 career points toher credit, Jefferson needs just four pointsto reach the 1,000-point milestone and be-come the 18th ASU player to do so.
ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS: SeniorEbonie Jefferson was named to the all-tournament team at the Anaconda Sports &The Rock Seton Hall Classic last weekendfollowing her performance in ASU’s twogames. Jefferson scored in double figuresin both of ASU’s games, finishing with 11points against Virginia Commonwealth inthe Red Wolves’ opening game before re-peating the effort in Saturday’s consolationgame against Seton Hall. Jefferson alsohad five steals and eight rebounds in thetwo-game classic. Jefferson was joined onthe team by Kandice Green of Seton Hall,Corin Adams and Erin Hawkins of MorganState and La’Tavia Rorie and D’Andra Mossof VCU, with Moss earning MVP honors.
SCHLUP SHINES: Senior forward LyndsaySchlup was outstanding on the boards forArkansas State during the week of Nov. 24-30. Schlup opened the week with a 6-re-bound performance against Louisiana Tech,cleaned the glass for 13 rebounds againstMissouri State, then topped that figure with15 more against Saint Louis. For the week,Schlup averaged 11.3 rebounds per gameand added four blocked shots and foursteals. She currently leads the Red Wolveson the boards, averaging 8.4 rebounds pergame and has five double-digit reboundinggames this season.

Schlup finished the UAPB game with 16points and 10 rebounds, while Scott scored10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. HOT SHOOTING: Although the Red Wolvescame up on the short end of a 79-70 score,

INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP: In an ef-fort to help acclimate Arkansas State’s in-ternational students to life in the UnitedStates, the ASU women’s basketball pro-gram began a partnership with the univer-sity’s international community by holding abasketball clinic Sunday evening at the ASUConvocation Center.Over 80 international students were onhand as the team members and coachingstaff introduced themselves and introducedthe students to Red Wolves women’s bas-ketball. The students joined the team onthe court for drills and fundamental in-struction, then enjoyed a pizza party towrap up the night’s activities.“This is a semester-long project that gotunderway with the clinic last night,” saidASU head coach Brian Boyer. “We wantedto let our international students know howmuch we appreciate them and to encour-age them to be more involved with all ofthe activities on campus. We also wantedto increase their awareness of athleticshere at Arkansas State, introduce them tothe Convocation Center and allow them toget to know our team.”Arkansas State’s players will partner withan international student throughout the se-mester, meeting with the student for atleast an hour each week to help them be-come familiar with Arkansas State and easetheir transition to life in the United States.The women’s basketball team will saluteASU’s international students at the Nov. 18home opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.Next week’s game has been designated as“International Students Night” at the Con-vocation Center.

(11/11/09) — Arkansas State headcoach Brian Boyer announced Wednesdaythat Scott City, Mo. standout Jane Morrillhas signed a National Letter of Intent tocontinue her basketball career at ArkansasState University.A 6’1” forward, Morrill is on pace to top the1,000-point mark in her career at NotreDame High School in Cape Girardeau, Mo.and averages 15.7 points and nine reboundsper game. She is a two-time All-Confer-ence, All-District and All-Regional selec-tion, earning conference MVP honorsfollowing her sophomore year with theBulldogs. She has blocked 151 shots overthe past two seasons at Notre Dame and isexpected to finish her career as theschool’s all-time leader. “From day one, Jane was our number onerecruit, and we were so excited when shecommitted to us,” said Boyer. “She is goingto be an impact front-line player at this

QEDAN INKS WITH ASU: JONESBORO, Ark.(11/11/09) – Arkansas State head coachBrian Boyer announced Wednesday thatHanna Qedan, a 5’11” guard from Farming-ton, Ark., has signed a National Letter ofIntent to join the Red Wolves lineup for the2010-11 season.“Hanna can really shoot the ball,” saidBoyer. “To go along with that, she has verygood size for a guard, so she is able to geta shot off on a lot of people. But the thingthat really stands out about her is her ex-plosiveness. She handles the ball just aswell left or right, so she is more than justa shooter, she is a very good all-aroundguard.”The Farmington High School standout aver-ages 19.4 points per game, 11.0 reboundsper game and four blocks per game. Shehas 19 double-doubles so far in her careerand owns a 32-point career-high game. Shewas named All-Conference and an AAO Top25 Camp nominee. She was selected to theAll-Northwest Arkansas team, the All-County team, the KURM Dream Team andwas a Top 10 All-American Camp partici-pant.“Hanna is a tenacious player on both endsof the floor,” said Farmington head coachBrad Johnson. “She is a big guard who hasa great face-up game. Central guard/for-ward Olivia Maddox has signed a NationalLetter of Intent to continue her basketballcareer at ASU.Maddox, 5’11”, was a Class 3-A All-StateTournament selection following her sopho-more year in which she averaged 8.3 pointsand 6.3 rebounds per game and helped leadMillington to a state runner-up finish. Shewas also named Memphis Best of Preps andearned All-District honors following the2007-08 season. “Olivia has been a part of one of the mostsuccessful programs in the Memphis area,”said Boyer. “In addition to being on a verysuccessful team, they are very well bal-anced in terms of scoring. She is a greatathlete who really fits our system well andis someone that our fans will enjoy watch-ing over the next four years. Olivia is veryathletic, very smooth to the basket and isa great offensive rebounder. It is unfortu-nate that she didn’t get to play last yeardue to a knee injury, but her best basket-ball is ahead of her and we have all theconfidence that she is going to be a greatplayer for us.”“I think Arkansas State is getting a younglady with a lot of athleticism who has a lotof upside to her game,” said Millingtonhead coach Stan Gatlin. “She has great re-bounding ability, jumping ability and greatdefensive intensity. Through 10 seasons as head coach at Arkansas State Uni-versity, Brian Boyer’s name has become synonymous with suc-cess and the women’s basketball program. Entering his 11thseason as head coach at ASU, Boyer has climbed to second placeon the ASU career win chart with a record of 168-135. UnderBoyer’s guidance, Arkansas State has reached the Women’s Na-tional Invitation Tournament four times, including three of thepast six seasons. He led the Red Wolves to the 2003-04 Sun BeltEast Division Championship, the program has produced 17 All-Sun Belt Conference players with Boyer at the helm and Boyerwas named Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year following the2003-04, and 2004-05 seasons. His 89 career Sun Belt Confer-ence victories heading into the 2009-10 season rank him fourthall-time in career conference wins.
Boyer directed the Red Wolves to yet another winning sea-son as he wrapped up his first decade as the program’s headcoach in 2008-09. The Red Wolves finished the season at 16-14,posting victories over post-season participants Creighton andArkansas-Little Rock along the way.
Although the 2007-08 season was expected by many to bea rebuilding year, Boyer put forth what was arguably one of hisfinest coaching performances, molding a group of unheraldedplayers into a team that produced yet another 20-win season atArkansas State. Faced with the task of replacing three 1,000-point scorers, including the program’s all time leading shotblocker and rebounder, along with the all-time assists leader,Boyer directed Arkansas State to a 20-12 record. ASU won arecord 13 conference games during the 2007-08 season, andreached the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournamentfor the 13th time in 16 tries. The Red Wolves finished the sea-son with the distinction of being the only Division I program inthe country with a winning record that did not have a singleplayer who averaged double figure scoring.
Arkansas State posted victories over Brigham Young and Al-abama early in the season, earning the win over the CrimsonTide on the road in Tuscaloosa. The Red Wolves finished 2007with a 6-7 record, but went on a tear in the new year, closingout the season with a 14-5 finish and a run to the semifinals ofthe SBC Tournament for the fourth consecutive season.
Like always, the 2007-08 team was especially tough athome, posting a 13-2 record at the ASU Convocation Center thatincluded a 9-0 record against Sun Belt Conference opponents.
In the 2006-07 season the Red Wolves finished 21-13, ad-vanced to the second round of the WNIT before falling to even-tual tournament runner-up Wisconsin, and continued to buildon their already-impressive home record with a 14-2 mark atthe ASU Convocation Center. The Red Wolves posted home vic-tories over NCAA Tournament participants Oklahoma State andLouisiana-Lafayette, Southeastern Conference member Alabamaand WNIT participants South Dakota State and Murray State. Inall, 14 of the Red Wolves’ 34 games during the 2006-07 seasonwere against teams that played in the NCAA or WNIT tourna-ments. The 2006-07 Red Wolves also reached the 10-victorymilestone quicker than any other team in ASU history, picking uptheir 10th win of the season Jan. 3, 2007, and their 21-win totalequaled the highest in Boyer’s eight seasons.
Under Boyer’s guidance, several individual records fell dur-ing the 2006-07 season as well. Seniors Adrianne Davie and RudySims rewrote the Red Wolves record books, with Davie shatter-ing the career blocked shots record with 132 and the career re-
bounding record with 1,147. Sims set a new mark in career as-sists with 548 and became the first ASU player in over a decadeto record a triple-double when she scored 14 points, grabbed11 rebounds and handed out 10 assists in a 65-58 overtime vic-tory at Louisiana-Lafayette. Davie was named All-Sun Belt Con-ference for the fourth straight season, while Sims earned thehonor for the third straight year. Senior Ali Carter became the16th member of the career 1,000-point club.
During the 2005-06 season, the Red Wolves posted a 15-15overall record against a schedule that included nine NCAA Tour-nament teams, and three that participated in the WNIT. A-Stateadvanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tourna-ment, and Davie earned first-team All-Sun Belt Conference hon-ors for the third straight season. Davie also joined the ASU1,000-point club, along with Sims and senior Amber Abraham.
In the 2004-05 season, ASU put together a program-best 10-game Sun Belt Conference winning streak, part of an 11-gamewin streak that was the fourth longest in Red Wolves history.The Red Wolves finished the season 21-11 overall and in secondplace in the Sun Belt East Division at 11-3, giving Boyer his first20-win season as head coach. Arkansas State advanced to thequarterfinals of the WNIT Tournament, defeating SEC powersMississippi State and Arkansas along the way. The second roundvictory over Arkansas was played in front of a Convocation Cen-ter record crowd of 10, 892. The team’s success earned Boyerhis second straight Sun Belt Conference Coach of the YearAward. Boyer joined former Red Wolves coach Jerry Ann Win-ters as the only two ASU women’s basketball coaches to winback-to-back coach of the year honors. Davie, Sims and Carterall earned All-Sun Belt honors following the 2004-05 season,marking the first time inRed Wolves history thatthree players earnedall-conference hon-ors in a single sea-son.
The 2003-04season culminatedwith the program’sfirst-ever regularseason conferencechampionship and areturn to the WNIT.The RedWolvesf i n -
ished 19-10 overall and 10-4 in league play, earning a share ofthe Sun Belt East division title as they posted one of the topturnarounds in Division I, picking up seven more wins than theprevious season. ASU’s 19 victories that season were the mostsince the 1997-98 season, sparked in part by the best start inASU women’s basketball history – a seven game win streak toopen the season. The strong start carried over into Sun Beltplay as the Red Wolves held the top spot in the East divisionfrom start to finish. Davie earned honorable-mention all-con-ference honors as a true freshman, and Boyer was rewardedwith his first conference Coach of the Year Award.
The 2002-03 season capped a pair of rebuilding years andresulted in a strong finish and a trip to the semifinals of the SunBelt Conference Tournament.
In his first season as head coach of the Red Wolves, Boyerled ASU to its first-ever Top 25 national ranking, 18 victoriesand a trip to the WNIT Tournament. The Red Wolves’ 18 victo-ries gave Boyer the most wins by a first-year coach at ASUsince Sara Wooley won 19 games in her first season in1979.
The Red Wolves opened the season by winning 10 oftheir first 11 games, including road wins over SouthernMiss and nationally ranked Kansas, giving ASU a No. 25ranking in the Associated Press poll the following week.The Red Wolves finished the season at 18-12 overall, endingthe year with the program’s second straight invitation to theWNIT.
Boyer came to ASU in 1995 after spending four seasons asan assistant for former head coach Jeff Mittie, who is now thehead coach at TCU.
A graduate of Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph,Mo., with a bachelor's degree in education, Boyer was an assis-tant coach for the men's program for six seasons, including thelast three, which he spent as an assistant with the women's pro-gram as well.
As an assistant to the men's team, Missouri Western was aNCAA Division II Tournament participant five years (1990, 1991,1992, 1994 and 1995) and won two conference championships.
The team made the Sweet 16 in 1990. As a women's assistant,Boyer and Missouri Western made two NCAA Tournament ap-pearances, including a trip to the Final Four in 1995 and theElite Eight the previous season.
The team went 31-3 in 1995 and made it to the Elite Eightof the national tournament. It also went undefeated through itsMIAA schedule at 16-0. In 1994, the team finished third in thenation, losing in a national semifinal contest and finishing witha 29-3 overall mark.
In his four seasons at Arkansas State as an assistant coach,Boyer and the Red Wolves earned a 75-42 mark. The 1998-99team went 18-14 with a trip to the Women's NIT.
In the process, ASU earned wins over nationally ranked Vir-ginia and Kansas. The Red Wolves won 20 games in back-to-backseasons in the 1996-97 and 1997-98 seasons.
The 1997 team opened the season with a victory over na-tionally ranked Illinois and had a 12-game winning streak duringthe season, the second longest in school history.
The 1998 squad knocked off nationally ranked Western Ken-tucky at the Convocation Center and came within four points ofscoring an upset over national power Louisiana Tech at home as
well. In his first season at ASU,
the Red Wolves won 17games despite having justseven scholarship players.
