KEMHA FABRICS
The Ottoman Kemha fabric known to westerners as “brocade” is a silk fabric with a double ground with an admixture of gold thread. In the 16th century, orders were placed for this type of fabric for use in papal robes and the ceremonial apparel worn by the imperial entourage. Today Kemha fabrics are produced at ARMAGGAN ateliers with traditional techniques.

HOSPITALITY
ARMAGGAN BOSPORUS SUITES
Occupying three immaculately
restored yalis (waterfront mansions)
on the Bosporus’s European shore,
ARMAGGAN Bosporus Suites
bring a new hospitality concept to
Istanbul: intimate home-style living
nessed by the city’s most exclusive
design house.
Available singly, as three separate
houses or as one large residence,
the 18 individual suites celebrate the
nest in local craftsmanship and
hospitality, from exquisite textiles and
objets d’art by Istanbul’s hottest
young designers to Anatolia’s purest
natural and regional cuisine.
Architecture and Location ARMAGGAN Bosporus Suites are located on the European side of the Bosphorus in Ortaköy, a popular cosmopolitan neighbourhood in Istanbul’s thriving Beşiktaş district. The suites occupy a commanding waterfront location, directly adjacent to the Bosphorus Bridge, facing Istanbul’s Beylerbeyi Palace. A constant flow of ferries and leisure boats fills the Suites’ terraces with the unique energy of one of the world’s busiest waterways. Originally the residence of Anatolia’s Governor General, Beylerbeyi Palace was rebuilt as a summer residence for Sultan Abdülaziz on the Bosphorus’ Asian shore in 1860’s by renowned Ottoman architect Sarkis Balyan. So proud was Balyan of his palatial creation that he built his own yali on the European shore from which to cherish it. His restored yali is now part of the ARMAGGAN Bosporus Suites. Beneath the ever-changing colors of the Bosphorus Bridge, ARMAGGAN Bosporus Suites retain their unique standing on the strait.
CULTURAL HERITAGE & ARCHITECTURE
The Suite Experience Conceived as a meeting place for international culture lovers, life at the suites is based around a communal sense of living that celebrates a coming together of interests and minds. Three traditional yalis – each with its own kitchen and lounge – combine to create one very special residence. At the heart of it all, a large drawing room and terrace welcomes with views across the glittering Bosphorus. Occupy a suite, a yali or the entire 18-suite residence. Enjoy bathing and massages in the private Turkish hamam. Experience private cultural immersions in and around the city, and revel in the ease and exclusivity of your own waterfront home. Home-Style Living In keeping with its residential concept, ARMAGGAN Bosporus Suites offer every personalized home comfort one would expect from a refined city residence: from butler and laundry services to customized city transfers by private car, boat or jet. Suite guests can also enjoy traditional Turkish treatments in the private spa and hamam, as well as day or overnight trips to numerous local sites of interest.
AN UNFORGETABLE MOMENT IN ISTANBUL
PRIVATE ART COLLECTION
Private Collection ARMAGGAN Bosporus Suites is home to an exceptionally valuable collection of pieces by artists whose works are the milestones of Turkish art. The collection selected for the yalis consists of artists representing every period of modern Turkish art, including names like Şeker Ahmet Pasha, Hoca Ali Rıza, Osman Hamdi Bey, İbrahim Çallı, Halil Pasha, Hikmet Onat and Fikret Mualla, as well as important works by contemporary masters like Adnan Turani, Komet, Muhsin Kut and Orhan Peker. As you explore the yalis, which are enlivened with notable pieces such as Nuri İyem’s “Women,” “Magnolias” by İbrahim Çallı, Necdet Kalay’s “Views” and Adnan Turani’s “Woman Playing the Violin,” you will discover a different master of Turkish art on every wall.
KNOW-HOW

With offices in Istanbul, Boston and Washington D.C., and a selection of encyclopedic websites, the organization supports a range of education and research programs and cooperates with numerous like-minded organizations. KNOW-HOW
Cultural Heritage Preservation and
Natural Dyes Laboratory
Central to ARMAGGAN’s mission is
the preservation of centuries-old
weaving and natural dying techniques
to create exceptional modern fabrics
in classic designs. ARMAGGAN works
closely with the Cultural Heritage
Preservation and Natural Dyes
Laboratory– established by TCF in
2010 and now the proud developer
and owner of the world’s largest
collection of organic plant dyes.
1 OF 10 LARGEST
NATURAL DYING LABORATORY
IN THE WORLD
+600 NATURAL PLANTS
INSECTS
This laboratory possesses what is
currently the world's largest collection of
natural plant dyes and dyestuffs. In
analysis of dyestuffs used in historic
artifacts, it ranks among the world's top
ten laboratories. Drawing on its extensive
collection of natural dye plants, the
laboratory is able to use comparative
techniques to reach accurate and reliable
conclusions about which plant was used to
dye an artifact, which period it dates to
and in which region it was produced.
Moreover, by using these plants in dying
processes, the laboratory is able to
develop new dyes and make it possible to
produce a wider variety of shades and
colors using natural dyes.
