Electric actuatorAn electric actuator is used to automatically open and close a ball valve. The robust polyamide housing, a pro-tection class up to IP67, and the two voltage ranges make the electric actuator a simple alternative to pneumaticactuators.

The main differences between it and a actuator are sure-ly the slower switching speed, lower switching frequency(standardised according to DIN EN 15714-2) and the poly-amide housing.

The electric actuators in this series are not explosionprotected.

Backup battery packThe backup battery pack is installed in the actuator and can-not be seen from the outside. It serves to move the actuator to a safety position (open/ closed) in case of a power failure.

It is not suitable for use as a continuous power supply.

Positioning systemAlso not visible from the outside. The positioning system converts the actuator into a controlled valve controller. Using the input signal, it is possible to select a position anywhere in the swivel range.

A ball valve is not a control valve.

Interface

All actuators have an interface according to ISO 5211/DIN 3337 and can be mounted directly on a valve or using a mounting bracket and the corresponding adapter piece.

Pneumatic actuatorThe aluminium housing with high quality components,together with the ball valve made of stainless steel, makes the pneumatic actuator an extremely robust, unifi ed whole.

The advantages of the pneumatic actuators are mainly found in their simple construction and handling. In addition to their switching speed, their strengths also lie in their repetition rate and the extremely high switching frequency (standar-dised in DIN EN 15714-3)

Interface

According to ISO 5211/DIN 3337 – see electric actuator

Position transmittersUsing position transmitters, it is possible to display the end position visually and transmit it electronically. The transmit-ter boxes are also mounted on the appropriate interface on the top of the actuator in accordance with VDE/VDI 3845. The fulfi lment of ATEX requirements for various areas is therefore guaranteed using inductive sensors in the box or using certain types of housings.

Solenoid valvesSolenoid valves can be used for control purposes. They can be mounted directly on the actuator using a standardised VDE/VDI 3845 or Namur interface. Solenoid valves designed according to the ATEX guidelines are also available for vari-ous areas.

Single actingair/spring

Double-acting (Air/Air)

Two separate air chambers are used, one is fi lled with com-pressed air while the other is emptied. The corresponding motion of the piston generated is transferred by a rack and pinion to the shaft, which then turns the stem in the valve.

Single-acting (Air/Spring)

In contrast to the double-acting design, only one chamber is fi lled with air and can generate motion of the piston. When vented, the springs built into the actuator move the piston in the opposite direction.

For low or high temperature applications as well as for rough ambient conditions, the actuators are also available withdifferent seals and surface coatings.
