We have had another great response to the “Great Book Swap” initiative led by our Student Council under the direction of Mrs Hill and Mrs Rossi. The proceeds of this project go to our fellow Queensland students from Indigenous cultures and its intention is to raise awareness for the importance of literacy and promote opportunities to strengthen reading for all. It is a great joy to see the enthusiastic response from our own students in making choices from the vast selection. Having so many books donated this year, we are extending the opportunity to make a selection with a gold coin donation this week and students are welcome to go to 4K classroom at a time that suits their teacher until the end of this week. We also had a successful Catholic Mission for Jamaica day last Friday under the leadership of our Year 7 students. This is an integral part of the Year 7 RE Curriculum on Catholic Social Teaching and we are proud of these school leaders and the way in which they have led this project from the outset. We now prepare ourselves for our annual Mini Vinnies Christmas appeal (details within). We shared some great news from Mr Kenyon about our Mission Cup Netballers (the week before) and our Queensland Touch Football success. Our St Rita’s team came 7th in the whole state. This is a fantastic result from dedicated coaching by our school staff (Mr Kenyon, Mrs Hill and Mr Brammer) along with committed and enthusiastic students. Well done St Rita’s! Amidst these great achievement we continue to journey together through Term 4. This can be a time of additional challenge with tired minds and bodies. However, my message to us all is to finish strong! We have a fantastic Catholic school community – our students are displaying great qualities of learning, friendship and communal care. When things don’t go as well as they should – as they do – please keep us informed as our respect and care for each other is the foundation to righting the wrongs and ensuring our students are learning from mistakes and building the character and good grit to face life’s challenges. FROM THE SCHOOL LEADERSHIP TEAM

Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,

At this week’s Assembly I spoke to our school community with a positive message about the many successful achievements within our local and wider community.

We look forward to welcoming our new families and any younger siblings next Tuesday to our Prep Orientation Day.

May God’s peace and blessings be with you and your family in the coming week.

Year 4 Sacrament of Reconciliation Congratulations to all our Year 4 students who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation last Thursday evening. It was a special event and I was privileged to watch the children with their parents and family members sharing together in this sacred moment.

chair and he did the sign of the cross He asked Me ''What I wanted to be forgiven for." I said ''Teasing My brothers and sister. ''He said ''You are now forgiven." I lit the candle and said the prayer but it was very worth it. Georgia 4L I was exited getting Baptist a few weekends ago. But I was a bit worried about my First Reconcilliation if the priest was going to tell my sins to everybody but he didn't tell anyone. He is very nice and I got a certificate and a bookmark it was AWESOME!!!!!!!. Nicolas 4L I go and sit with the Priest. He says "What do you want to say sorry to God for?" I answer "I do hurt my sisters physically and metally. I don't listen to others when they have something important to say. I am sorry for my sins, please forgive me." The Priest raises his hands over me. He says "God is washing away all sin. In the name off the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. Go in Peace." I go and light a candle in the middle of the room. I say a special prayer by the altar. I go and sit in my seat and talk with my family. I do my penance and then we listen to the end of mass. Then we go home. Jemma 4L Throughout term 3 and 4, some year 4/5 students have participated in the reconciliation program. Reconciliation is where you can say sorry to someone for something or you can forgive others for something they've done to you. We had six reconciliation lessons and then on the 30th of October 2014 all reconciliation students had their ceremony. At our ceremony we said to either Fr. Paul, Fr. Ashley or Fr. Jim something we were sorry for. Then we lit a candle. We said a short prayer of sorrow. Lastly there were a few songs. Then we left. Now we have finished our reconciliation but next year we have our Holy communion! Eleanor 4L I was really exited but nervous as well, When I want up to the priest he asked me what my sins where so then I told him, And then I wasn't that nervous. When I went to light the candle I was really happy that Jesus forgive me. Mia 4L

A special thank you to our Marianne Fergusson and her Year 5 class who created ‘Prayer Bookmarks” for each of our Year 4 students’ receiving their Sacrament of Reconciliation. They were a lovely gift and beautifully presented.

Year 5 Learning Year 5 students have been working cooperatively to collaborate and create. Their use of ICT (Information Communication Technology) is evident in the links below. Click on the image to link you to “Our Solar System” eBook written and published by students from 5L. Click on the link and have a read! The ebook can be accessed from the Library Life Page by all students at St Rita’s. Also click on Tory, Izzy, Riley and Orlando’s bushfire documentary “Deadly Bushfires!” below to watch their YouTube clip. This is Year 5’s first group to publish. Congratulations Year 5 and thank you for sharing your learning. http://youtu.be/EGjDnR95kkc “I really enjoyed working as a team.” Mia 5L “It was great fun making the documentary in Moviemaker.” Luke 5T “I enjoyed researching the information about bushfires.” Julia 5K “I liked recording the script for our documentary.” Will 5L
