During the Mela, the folk artist belonging to surround- ing areas turned up in large numbers to sing folk songs of the areas highlighting vari- ous aspects of civilization with special reference to Lord Shiva on first two days. Number of temporary sweet shops, toy shops and other eatable corners by the locals as well as outside ven- dors were the main attrac- tion for the general public visiting the mela site. Soldier shoots self STATE TIMES NEWS KUPWARA: An Army soldier allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Kupwara district on Tuesday. He was on duty when he shot himself and committed suicide. He was rushed to a nearby military hospital where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival. The deceased soldier has been identified as Chhotu Kumar, posted in Kandi area. One killed, 2 injured in road mishap STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: One person was killed while two others got injured in a road mishap at Beli Charana on Tuesday. As per the details, a tipper hit a scooty near fourth Tawi bridge, Beli Charana in which three persons were injured and were shifted to hospital where doctors declared Kulvinder Kumar, son of Shankar Dass, resident of Ganeshu Chak as brought dead. While injured namely Raj Kumar and Sandeep Choudhary are under treatment in hospital. Police has registered a case and started investigation. Rs 70,000 stolen from vehicle STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Rs 70,000 have been stolen from vehicle at Nawabad area on Tuesday. As per the details, Raees Ahmed, resident of Banihal lodged a complaint with Nawabad Police that Rs 70,000 have been stolen from his vehicle (JK019-7168) which he had parked in the area. He further said that he noticed that window panel of his vehicle is broken and cash missing. Police has registered a case and started investigation. Body found from canal STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: A male body was found from canal at Satwari area on Tuesday. As per the details, locals on seeing a body in a canal near Shiksha Niketan School, Satwari informed the police which shifted it to mortuary for identification. Two drug peddlers arrested with heroin STATE TIMES NEWS BARI BRAHMANA/KATRA: Police on Tuesday arrested two drug peddlers and recovered 16 gm heroin from their pos- session. As per the details, a party of Police Station Bari Brahmana led by Insp. Darshan Singh SHO under the super- vision of SDPO Bari Brahmana Sunil Kesar and SSP Samba Dr. Koushal Sharma during patrolling arrested one drug peddler namely Yaqoob Hussain alias Yukka alias Lambu, son of Bashir Ahmed, resident of Gujjar Basti Sarore Adda and recovered 6 gms Chitta like substance from his possession. A case vide FIR No. 72/2019 under Sections 8, 21 and 22 NDPS Act was registered against the accused at Police Station Bari Brahmana. Meanwhile, Katra Police arrested a drug peddler and recovered 10 gm heroin from his possession. The accused has been identified as Bishan Dass, resident of Kanthal. A case under relevant sections of law was registered against him. Two matador drivers injured in scuffle STATE TIMES NEWS SAMBA: Two matador drivers were injured in a scuffle at village Goran here on Tuesday. According to a report, a scuffle erupted between two matador drivers at Matador Stand of village Goran. Subsequently, both got critically injured and were brought to District Hospital Samba for treatment. However, doctors referred them to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu for further treatment. The injured have been identified as Mohammad Mushtaq, son of Din Mohammad and Parveen Choudhary, both residents of Battal Block Sumb Samba. Burglars decamp with cash, gold STATE TIMES NEWS BARI BRAHMANA: Burglars on Tuesday decamped with cash and gold from the house at vil- lage Kartholi area of Bari Brahmana in District Samba. According to a report, Shamsher Lal, son of Ram Lal, resident of Channi Kartholi area of Bari Brahmana lodged a complaint with Bari Brahmana Police that thieves targeted his houses during intervening night and decamped with Rs 1 lakh and gold include one Mangal Suttar, three Tola Gold and five rings. Police has taken cogni- sance in the matter and started investigation. Two girls raped STATE TIMES NEWS KATHUA: Two girls were raped in Bani area on Tuesday. As per the details, a girl from Bani area lodged a complaint with police that she along with her friend took lift from a person who took them to Basohli-Kathua road and raped them along with his two friends. The girls identified two of the accused as Jameel Din and Kamran. Police has conducted their medical examination and regis- tered a case. Efforts are on to nab the accused.
