Gas control and metering equipment travels from Latvia for new Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline

One of Volga-Dnepr Airlines’ new IL-76TD-90VD freighters carried gas facility equipment from Riga in Latvia to Taraz, Kazakhstan, in support of the international gas pipeline construction project linking Kazakhstan and China.

Including various components of the automated gas control and metering unit and other equipment, a total of 25 tons was loaded onto the the IL-76TD-90VD aircraft and delivered to Taraz. At the customer’s request, the airline’s Load Planning specialists designed a special loading procedure for the most bulky component – a 16-ton gas pressure reduction unit. The components were uploaded and offloaded by means of a unique licensed tooling system designed by Volga-Dnepr’s Technical Department for heavy and outsize cargo transportation.

The flight was conducted for RMG Gas Technologies LLP, a major gas equipment supplier for the Kazakhstan-China pipeline construction project.

Volga-Dnepr was chosen for the operation due to its profound experience of transporting heavy and outsize oil and gas equipment to destinations worldwide. Once again, the airline demonstrated its ability to meet all the customer’s requirements with flawless loading and unloading of the outsize cargo. This flight was followed by another delivery for RMG from Riga to Shymkent in Kazakhstan.

The construction of the Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline was launched in July 2008. Once in operation, it will deliver gas from Turkmenistan to China through Kazakhstan. The gas pipeline’s design capacity is up to 40 billion cubic metres per year.

Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Airport opened its runway to a giant AN-124-100 freighter for the first time when Volga-Dnepr landed in Sakhalin Island with two large compressors weighing 106 tons for a gas distribution station.

The cargo, moving from Perm in European Russia to the Russia Far East, was destined for the major power source in Sakhalin, the TEC-1 thermal power plant. The customer was Iskra-Turbogas in the interest of Gazprom and within the implementation of the Sakhalin Oblast Gasification Programme.

Arrangements for the flight were managed

by Volga-Dnepr’s Engineering and Logistics Centre (ELC), a specialist division of the Group providing its customers with a range of end-to-end logistics services. ELC personnel developed and made arrangements for loading/unloading of the outsize and heavy payload at both airports.

The successful completion of the flight – one of Volga-Dnepr’s latest operations in

support of the oil and gas industry – was important for both Volga-Dnepr Group and Sakhalin Oblast because it demonstrate the capability of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Airport to accept the АN-124.

9-tonne ‘screw’ heads for paper packaging plant in BordeauxVolga-Dnepr Airlines has transported a high value ‘screw’ used in the production of paper packaging.

Weighing nine tonnes and measuring 1100 x 210 x 210 cms, the screw was loaded onto one of Volga-Dnepr’s IL-76TD-90VD freighters at Kallax Airport in Sweden for its

flight to Bordeaux in France. The flight was performed in co-operation with Air Partner’s offices in the UK and Sweden.

To expedite the shipment, Volga-Dnepr’s load planners produced detailed technical drawings and information for the customer to ensure the transportation went according to plan and without any delays. This resulted in a faster loading process in

Sweden and enabled the IL-76TD-90VD to depart ahead of time with its time sensitive cargo.

The shipment was delivered on behalf of one of Europe’s leading producers of packaging paper. Its production facility, situated in Facture in Aquitaine, South-West France, specialises in the manufacture of liners for corrugated board.

Highest tonnage and biggest growth at Frankfurt earns ABC top Fraport awards for 2010Fraport Cargo Services (FCS) has presented AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC) with its ‘Best Cargo Performer 2010’ award after the airline increased its freight volume through Frankfurt Airport by nearly 50%.

It is the second year in a row that ABC has been recognized as the leading carrier han-dled by Fraport in terms of volume. In the first 11 months of 2010, AirBridgeCargo, the scheduled cargo airline of Volga-Dnepr Group, saw its freight tonnage at Frankfurt increase to nearly 103,000 tons compared to just below 70,000 tonnes for the same period of 2009.

ABC has been a customer of Fraport since August 2008. In earning its place as the largest cargo carrier handled at Frankfurt

by Fraport, ABC finished the period ahead of other leading airlines such as Air China, Cathay Pacific and Emirates. AirBridge-Cargo was also acknowledged by Fraport as achieving the ‘Biggest Volume Increase 2010’.

Winfried Hartmann, Managing Director of Fraport Cargo Services, said: “In a very strong market environment at Frankfurt, AirBridgeCargo has again proved to serve their customers in an outstandingly suc-cessful way. For the second year in a row,

Fraport Cargo Services as the assigned handling company is delighted to hon-our AirBridgeCargo overall cargo volume performance for the year 2010 with a “Bembel”, the traditional local apple cider mug. After a very difficult year in 2009 we are very happy that together with ABC we could lay the foundation for such growth. The relationship between Fraport Cargo Services and AirBridgeCargo is a model for partnership and a common perspective for the future.”

ABC operates Boeing 747-400 freighter services linking Frankfurt with Russia, other markets in Europe and China, Hong Kong and Japan.

ABC wants your feedback!AirBridgeCargo Airlines’ website now includes an online forum for customers to give feedback of its service levels and to suggest opportunities for further improvements.

The forum aims to capture new ideas that enable ABC to very clearly understand the thoughts and needs of customers globally and to make its business even better. The six-week campaign will run until the middle of March 2011 and the airline will award aviation-related prizes for the best ideas.

Heavy snow can’t stop on-time delivery to car manufacturing plant in Mexico CityWithin 48 hours of customer sign-off, a Volga-Dnepr IL-76TD-90VD was on its way from Vitoria in Spain to Mexico City with an urgent shipment of two press moulds and auxiliary equipment for an automotive manufacturing plant.

In the two days leading up to the flight, Volga-Dnepr’s experts designed the loading procedure for the 32 ton shipment, prepared the aircraft for the operation and made the necessary arrangements for supplementary engineering services. Even heavy snow in the UK which disrupted the delivery of loading/unloading tools from London Stansted to Vitoria did not prevent Volga-Dnepr from completing its contractual obligations in full.
