At the crisis peak

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Keolis is present in 15 countries across the world so we have experienced the crisis on a truly global scale and more or less acutely depending on the country. As a result, patronage levels have declined everywhere due to travel restrictions and partial or total lockdowns. At the peak of the crisis, ridership fell between minus 60% and minus 90% on our networks.

Presentation Notes
In Australia, patronage levels also declined. As of 19 June, they stand between minus 20% and minus 77% according to the network. Our issue today is :  - how to meet the mobility demands of the general public and regain their trust, how to accompany our PTAs in delivering their mobility priorities during and after the crisis, and and how to adapt to the post-Covid world, preventing a modal shift towards private car use.   With the pandemic that emerged in China earlier this year, we had to implement new ways of operating in just a couple of weeks. We've been lucky to collaborate closely with PTAs around the world that have reacted extremely well in terms of reducing the risk of spread of the pandemic. Together, we were able to adapt in an agile, flexible fashion.

#3Collaboration and partnership

Presenter
Presentation Notes
During a crisis situation like this, it is essential to work hand-in-hand with our teams, PTAs, partners and the industry as a whole.   The level of coordination and collaboration we have seen during the pandemic has been impressive and we are keen to hear from others, as well as to share our experience.

Internal organisation for sharing best practices

Germany

• The situations in China, Germany and France aroused a great deal of interest among all our subsidiaries and among our PTAs across the world.

Shanghai, China

Presenter
Presentation Notes
On 2 March, we created a Group Crisis team which met every day. This allowed us to efficiently identify and share, at the different phases of the spread of the virus, the experience of countries affected first with those that were affected later In China, the situation allowed us to share intelligence in responding effectively to the crisis in March. Denmark and Germany resumed normal service levels at the end of April, while in North America the spread of the virus was accelerating. The situations in China, Germany and Denmark aroused a great deal of interest among all our subsidiaries and among our PTAs across the world.   - We set up a weekly call bringing together Keolis representatives from every country where we operate, to enable them to share their situations, experiences and best practices

Drawing on best practices of all networks and parent company

• A collaborative intranet portal on which wecreated a specific C-19 central library to shareall documents related to: Security, Human Ressources, and Maintenance.

• SNCF, our parent company, has been a major ally as it shared its experiences with all Keolis networks around the world, in adapting train stations for safe reopening.

• Mass Transit Academy, which gathers SNCF and Keolis mass transit experts, produced benchmarks on best practices from networks all around the world.

Presenter
Presentation Notes
- We created a specific Covid-19 central library on our Collaborative Intranet Portal Keosphere to share all documents related to Covid-19. Our knowledge-sharing strategy, which was already one of our strengths, has been reinforced further by this resource library. - SNCF, our parent company, has been a major ally as it shared: its experiences in adapting train stations for safe reopening and a benchmark created by Mass Transit Academy on best practices from networks all around the world. - The crisis has showcased the advantages derived from having a global footprint which has enabled us to share best practices across all our subsidiaries and PTAs, many of whom have shown a real appetite for the intelligence we have provided.

#4Our commitment to PTAs

Presenter
Presentation Notes
We recognize the difficulties faced by the PTAs as a result of the crisis. In moments like these, we are more determined than ever to rise to the challenge and find solutions together. We work with 300 PTAs around the globe and have discussed contracts with all of them aimed at adapting to this changing world. In short, we adapt our contracts to the PTAs’ constraints
Page 18: arrow icon. attendees are admitted into the webinar in ... Tabary_Road ou… · You can open and close your control panel using the orange arrow icon. You can adjust your audio settings

Our commitment to PTAs

• We recognize the difficulties created by the crisis for PTAs.

• We work with 300 PTAs around the world and have discussed contracts with all of them to ensure they are adapted and mitigate the impact of the crisis as much as possible.

• We have successfully renegotiated over 40 contracts.

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Since the start of Covid-19, we have renegotiated over 40 contracts across the world to minimize the consequences for both PTAs and PTOs.  For example: - Transport for Wales - We have negotiated an “Emergency Measures Agreement” for up to 9 months (3+3+3), with a review in advance of the start of each 3 month block. Ultimately the PTA has assumed the costs and revenue risks for this period. - In parallel, we are renegotiating a longer term contract for the franchise.   - Transport for London - To support TfL in a period of financial difficulty, we are re-negotiating our operating contract on a period by period basis. We have provided the client with a list of possible cost-savings within the contract and are working together to prioritise and realise these going forward The success of our partnerships with PTAs results from: - improved performance on the networks we operate, - a transparent, trust-based and dialogue-driven approach - a shared focus on our passengers and achieving the best outcome for them.

Massachussetts Bay Transport Authority

• 4-year extension tooperate the commuterrail network in theBoston region

Virginia Rail Express

• 5-year extension tooperate the rail networkin the Washington DCarea

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Our approach has been rewarded. In the past couple of months, we have seen the renewal of some emblematic contracts: - in London, UK, Transport for London awarded us a four-year extension to operate and maintain the Docklands Light Rail network, which has seen 11% growth in ridership (pre-Covid) and improved service frequency - In the US, we have just been awarded two major extension contracts: the Virginia Rail Express serving the Washington DC area, for five additional years the commuter rail contract in the Boston area, for four additional years. This 640 km network carried 36 million passengers in 2019.   These reflect the confidence of transport authorities in Keolis as a key partner and open the way for delivering even greater benefits to passengers.

#5Regaining passengers’ trust

Presenter
Presentation Notes
In this post-Covid phase, our industry faces a new challenge, namely rebuilding people's trust in public transport and preventing a modal shift to cars. To achieve this, we need to continue partnering with governments to apply health and safety rules, and also reinvent the way we do things. Throughout the crisis, transport was considered across the world as an essential service. This is extremely positive and has further emphasized the fact that public transport moves our cities and regions. Now, to rebuild trust, we need to focus on three key priorities:
Page 21: arrow icon. attendees are admitted into the webinar in ... Tabary_Road ou… · You can open and close your control panel using the orange arrow icon. You can adjust your audio settings

• In Melbourne, Keolis partnered with the Victorian government which launched the Working for Victoria fund creating 300 positions for people who lost their job as a result of Covid-19.

• Almost 200 new staff have already joined Yarra Trams’ team to support the additional cleaning on the network.

• Cleaning has also been reinforced on all networks, and made visible to reassure passengers.

• Trend towards home working

• Citizens will move further away from the cities’ epicentres

Keolis harnessed the ‘Keoscopie’ observatory to study the long-term effects of the crisis on lifestyles and mobility

2. Adapting public transport to better meet the new needs and expectations of users

Presenter
Presentation Notes
We are adapting our mobility offer as we observe accelerating trends among citizens for working from home, moving out of city’s epicentres and adopting soft modes of mobility. With these trends in mind, Keolis is using the Keoscopie observatory to understand and respond to the long-term effects of the crisis on lifestyles and mobility. When the health crisis ramped up in France, we contacted other companies in cities including Lyon and Rennes to help them understand how modifying their employees' schedules could reduce pressure on public transport during rush hour and facilitate social distancing.

• Adapting prices,

• and developing digital ticketing.

2. Adapting the public transport to better meet the new needsand expectations of users

Presenter
Presentation Notes
To incentivize passengers to use public transport, we are adapting prices and developing pay-per-use solutions, as annual subscriptions for some passengers will no longer be relevant. We will provide even more dematerialized ticketing solutions as we are already doing in Boston, Shanghai and Manchester and in many French networks.

2. Adapting public transport to better meet the new needs and expectations of users

Presenter
Presentation Notes
We are working on new solutions to gather vehicle occupancy data in real time, either by using axle load data or counting the number of smartphones looking for a Wi-Fi network, while respecting user privacy. Our Velizy bus network and Welsh train network are among those interested in testing these solutions

#6Conclusion

Presenter
Presentation Notes
There has never been a more exciting time to work in this industry. We have a unique opportunity now, to make step changes and transform the way people travel, move and live.   By continuing to be passenger-centric, we will re-invent the door-to-door journey and harness the renewed focus on health to accelerate the energy transition in response to another common and long-term challenge – the global warming crisis.
