Art Smart – KindergartenFebruary: Seasons

Suggested Project: Sky Tree Oil Pastel

Example in the east campus kindergarten project book. This one is a little work but the result is so cool.

Cut bare trees out of black 9 x 12 paper in advance.

Have the children color a background using oil pastels and a sheet of 9 x 12 light blue construction paper. (you may want to draw in a pencil horizon line for a guideline)

Have the kids look at the Sky Tree prints to help them choose a season. Guide the children to put in horizontal bands of color.

When they are done coloring, help them carefully blend the colors with a paper towel – make sure the paper doesn’t tear!

Finally, glue the tree shapes on the blended oil pastel paper. You can use spray mount or watered down glue applied with a brush. This step can be done after class, and then show the kids the finished project.
