In France, cultural and creative industries represent annually more than 60 billion euros (NZ $95 billions). They provide jobs to 1.2 million people and are a growing part of the economy that includes the second largest book publisher in the world and the third videogames publisher. Supporting Cultural Cooperation Arts, Culture & Creative Industries The Cultural Office provides a platform for exchange, cooperation and innovation between French and New Zealand artists, creative professionals and the general public in the arts, literature, cinema, the digital sphere, sports and more. As the contact point for cultural projects involving France, it can provide advice and expertise and is responsible for the implementation and development of bilateral cooperation. The Cultural Office of the French Embassy is responsible for: linking New Zealand partners and professionals to the French expertise, know-how and productions from digital media and cinema to the visual and performing arts. developing bilateral projects and collaborative initiatives around creative industries and creativity. assisting the Alliance Française French Film Festival which has firmly established itself as the largest French cultural event on New Zealand’s national cultural calendar. engage with the best of contemporary art and creation in both countries help to establish professional networks support co-productions, collaborations and innovative projects create long-term partnerships supporting the development of collaborations, principally those involving co-productions and residencies between French and NZ arts organizations. supporting scouting trips and study tours for French and NZ cultural policy makers and curators. Special Fields of Cooperation

• Our priority areas focus on the best of contemporary creation, especially in the fields of the visual arts, digital media and street arts.

• We also aim at increasing the dialogue between France and New Zealand around all aspects of creativity, arts and science interactions and interdisciplinarity.

• We provide advice and support on all sectors of French contemporary culture.

Randell Cottage writers’ residence

The Cultural Services and the Randell Cottage Writers Trust offer one 6-month residency per year for a French author at the Randell Cottage in Wellington. This historic house in Wellington has been a writers’ residency alternately for New Zealand and French writers since 2001. Website: http://www.randellcottage.co.nz/

L’Institut Français

The Institut Français is the French national public agency in charge of implementing the cultural diplomacy of France internationally. Supported by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is competent on the creative industries, cinema, architecture, the performing and visual arts, French language and literature and scientific culture. New Zealand France Friendship Fund

The New Zealand France Friendship Fund was established in 1991 by an agreement between the French and New Zealand governments with the aim of promoting friendly relations between the citizens of the two countries. It seeks to enhance and deepen the historical, constructive and vibrant relationship between France and New Zealand. It does this by providing financial assistance to projects which lead to ongoing links, understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries, especially young people. Projects can be of many types, such as cultural, artistic, sporting, historical, and educational. A callout takes place every year, with applications usually being received until late March.
