On this date in 1958 Toyota and Datsun introduced cars to the U.S. market for the first time. On January 9 2007 Apple introduced the iPhone to consumers.
Growing up in Berkshire, England, Catherine Middleton, who was born on this date in 1982, was by all accounts a lovely girl from a respectable middle class family. But even young Kate, as she was called, probably never dreamed she would one day become royalty -- Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge, to be exact.
She met Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, at the University of Saint Andrews a decade ago. The pair announced their engagement in 2010 and Kate immediately was thrust into the epicenter of the most intense media glare imaginable. However, even the most mean-spirited tabloid gossipmongers could find little fault with the charming daughter of two flight attendants. Perhaps it was her good
looks and disarming manner, the same attributes that captured William’s heart.Kate will one day become the Queen Consort when her husband succeeds his father to the throne.
In the meantime, her keen fashion sense has enabled her to become an icon and forge a career as a buyer for a hot clothing line.
The royal wedding on April 29, 2011 was broadcast all over the world. Last month another milestone moment was reached: Kate is carrying the heir to the British throne.
Today’s Birthday: Kate Middleton, 1982
ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) Great week to be innovative and do some out of the box thinking. Pay attention to those inspired ideas. You could invent something or just stretch out in new directions. Enjoy yourself!
TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) Things do become a little more stable this week, even as they continue to change. Flexibility is necessary as is embracing the idea that all these changes will be good in the end.
GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) Your words have extra gravity right now, so do pay attention to what you are saying and how you are saying it. Don’t be surprised if others end up misinterpreting what you say. Slow yourself down and think hard before you speak.
CANCER (June 22 - July 23) Big and complex energy this week. You may need to take some time for yourself so you can sort through all the feelings that come with this much energy. Give yourself time to process everything before you react.
LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) You are leading the energy this week, so stay calm and efficient and know that your leadership skills have been prepared for just this moment in time. Remember what is essential, then show us the way.
VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) Great opportunity this week to use your full healing potential. While things in the physical world may be challenging, the energy that is available to heal your spirit is extraordinary. Use this inner world energy to your advantage and feel the grace.
LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) May be feeling a bit weird, although this should pass quickly. The overall energy of this week is the energy and desire to accomplish much, although you may have waves of intense emotion. Staying on task will allow the energy to keep moving.
SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) You will no doubt be in the middle of it all this week. You have the power to show others where to go and how to get there. Think of yourself as the pivot point; others and their chaos may just need to dance around you
as you find and stay in your center.SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21)
It is all about timing this week. You may change course in the middle and head in a different direction entirely, but you should find that the timing will be perfect, as long as you stay your flexible self.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) You will need to be a bit more patient right now. Hasty actions will not work in your favor, so take your time. This is a time of slow and steady progress. Keep your eye on the movement forward, no matter how small.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) You are in the middle of some complex energy and this may make your life seem complicated. Some areas of your life may be moving along well while others seem impossible. This is a time of shifting energy. Count your wins and trust all the rest to work out.
PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) Very creative, inspired and psychic energy this week. Do pay attention to your hunches, although gambling without being able to afford to lose isn’t recommended. Connect to music, art, and healing, and keep yourself in the flow.
NOTE: If you were born at the end or beginning of a sign, read the sign before or after your birthday.

Storage 24 (R) This silly sci-fi effort, about two London couples caught in an endless maze of tunnels and a storage facility, has flop written all over it. There’s a reason why bad movies are released in the throes of winter. Consider this Exhibit A.
New To Theaters
My Brooklyn (not rated) A documentary by Kelly Anderson that chronicles changes in the famed borough since the filmmaker moved there in 1988. The question to ask yourself before buying a ticket is, “Do I really care?”
New On DVDThe Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
This movie kind of flew under the radar – given its Memorial Day release, it was obscured by some of the summer epics. But it has legs, and Oscar voters may notice the savvy cast of Brits turned in the best ensemble performance of the year. Tom Wilkinson, Maggie Smith and Judi Dench are marvelous, as always, but Bill Nighy and Penelope Wilton, as an aging couple trying to relate to retirement at a run-down hotel in India, are a revelation. Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire), as the hotel proprietor, is captivating, and the screenplay, based on the Deborah Moggach novel, is touching and timely. This unheralded film may be a major player come Oscar time.

about the 1967 Supreme Court decision that legalized interracial marriage is on the short list for an Oscar. Contains actual footage of the couple involved, Richard Loving and Mildred Jeter. Riveting.
The Guilt Trip * (PG-13) The Seth Rogen comedy machine is fully revved for this delightful foray wherein a young chemist (Rogen) and his mom (Barbra Streisand) hit the road to hawk his latest invention. The banter, courtesy of screenwriter Dan Folgelman, is often hilarious and always real – that’s because the script is based on a similar trip Fogelman took. Streisand, the quintessential Jewish Mother, is at her absolute best. Kathy Najimy and Adam Scott co-star. The best comedy of the year -- don’t miss it.
(The Academy of Motion Pictures announces it 2013 Oscar nominees tomorrow morning. Indy’s film critic, Miles X. Logan, lists his choices below.)
Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln) is a sure thing. Academy favorite Denzel Washington (Flight) will probably get a nod. Les Miserables is the kind of sweeping saga the voters typically reward, so Hugh Jackman will probably get a Best Actor nomination. John Hawkes (Sessions), a versatile and underrated actor, may finally get his reward this year. Bradley Cooper, once considered a long shot for his role in Silver Linings Playbook has momentum and may be a surprise pick. Old war horses like Clint Eastwood or Anthony Hopkins lurk. Pretty boys Leo DiCaprio and Ben Affleck could also sneak in.
Best Actress: What, no Meryl? Jennifer Lawrence is this year’s it girl and is odds-on to win it all for her stunning performance in Silver Linings Playbook. Also pencil in Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty). Sally Field does a remarkable interpretation of Mary Todd Lincoln and could be an upsetter come Oscar night – The academy really likes her.
Emannuelle Riva deserves a nomination for Amour and we think she will get it. Anne Hathaway will probably get nominated for Les Mis but it will really be for gamely bombing as the Oscar show host in 2011. Marion Cotillard and or Quvenzhane Wallis would be more deserving.
Best Picture: Remember the academy now nominates 10 movies. The sure things are Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty, Les Mis,
Indy Oscar Picksand Django Unchained. Silver Linings Playbook is on a roll now; Amour deserves a nod and should get it. We loved Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Life Of Pi also deserves a nod. The Hobbit is visually stunning, and is picking up momentum. Other possibilities are Argo, The Master, Moonrise Kingdom, Beasts Of The Southern Wild, and The Dark Knight Rises.
Best Supporting Actor: This is tight one, with five of our most cherished actors vying for the statue. They are Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master), Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln) Leo DiCaprio (Django), Alan Arkin (Argo) and Robert De Niro (Linings). Bill Nighy and Tom Wilkinson, both excellent in Marigold, may cancel each other out. Long shots include Matthew McConaughey and Hal Holbrook.
Best Supporting Actress: Field and Hathaway, both of whom could be nominated for Best Actress, become the favorites if they drop into this category. Nicole Kidman, wearing her own nose this time around, was sensational in Paperboy and is a real contender. The academy loves Amy Adams (The Master), Maggie Smith (Marigold), and Helen Hunt (Sessions). Jackie Weaver (Playbook) may benefit from the buzz.
Best Director: The statue typically goes to the director of the Best Movie, so pencil in Steven Spielberg (Lincoln), Quentin Tarantino (Django), and Kathryn Bigelow (Zero) as surefire nominees. Add David O. Russell to the list for his work on Silver Linings. That leaves Ang Lee (Pi), Tom Hooper (Le Mis), and Michael Haneke (Amour) fighting it out for the final slot.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel When the pros from Dover . . . umm, make that England, head the cast the resulting film is usually a winner. In this case Judi Dench, Tom Wilkinson, Maggie Smith et al light up the screen and bring the novel by Deborah Maggach to life.
The plot centers on a group of proper Brits who, because of one reason or another, need to find a new place to retire. It turns out to be a not so exotic hotel in India. But the owner, the wonderful Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) has big dreams, and the cast, particularly Bill Nighy and Penelope Wilton, deliver big time. An underrated gem.
2. Zero Dark Thirty Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) is in the thick of the Oscar race again with this riveting film about the decade long hunt for Osama bin Laden. The academy may not be so quick to reward her this time around, and the star (Jessica Chastain) is somehow a female in a world of macho Navy SEALs. She’s good, though, and it’s a must see to be sure.
The Best Films Of 2012
3. Django Unchained Even with all his excesses Quentin Tarantino remains one of our great filmmakers. He strikes gold with this pre-Civil War saga about slavery. Jamie Foxx is excellent as a freed slave ostensibly working for a bounty hunter but in reality searching for his wife. Leonardo DiCaprio, an evil slave owner, should get the Oscar he covets as Best Supporting Actor. Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, James Remar, and many more stars turn in sterling performances. Is it over the top? Of course. Is it ridiculously violent? It sure is. Hey, it’s Tarantino.
4. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey No, it’s not The Lord Of The Rings, and yes, Peter Jackson should not have stretched it out into three different films, but there is enough visual magic here to captivate viewers. Add a star if you are a Tolkien buff.
5. Life Of Pi The mega-popular novel comes to the screen. Like the book, it’s hard to fathom, but is a magical ride for those who believe.
6. The Cabin In The Woods You think you know the plot – five (attractive, of course) young people go to a remote cabin in the woods for some down time and horrible things happen. But the writers, Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, who also directs, have created a delicious plate of surprises for those whose tastes run bloody.
7. Beasts Of The Southern Wild First time director Benh Zeitlin dazzles with this fantastical tale of a six year old girl (the wonderful Quvebzhané Wallis) whose world explodes when her abusive father abruptly dies and her Bayou home floods.
8. Looper Bruce Willis turns in a stunning performance as a time-traveling hit man. It sounds implausible, but writer-director Rian Johnson makes it all work.
9. Lincoln Steven Spielberg has crafted a historic masterpiece, an understated drama that zeroes in on President Lincoln’s last month in office. Daniel Day-Lewis is a mortal lock for the Best Actor Oscar but Sally Field damn near steals the show as his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. David Strathairn and James Spader co-star. Spielberg has made a movie with deep historical significance, but it’s a bit wordy, and some viewers think it dragged a bit.
10. 21 Jump Street Yes, it’s incredibly stupid, but that’s what makes it so funny. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as undercover cops sent back to high school make for the best buddy movie since 48 Hours. Rob Riggle dumbs-down to a new low. It’s a blast.
