MusicWorks is a comprehensive program of music instruction for all ages. Students learn proper playing techniques, how to read music, and the fundamentals of music theory. Our experienced teaching artists share their passion for music with nearly 200 students yearly. Individual lessons, group lessons, classes and ensembles are available through the MusicWorks program. See pages 3-5.

Registration forms and scholarship applications can be found in the center of this booklet. Remove forms, fill out completely and mail or return, with payment, to Arts Place. Forms can also be found at Artsland.org

ArtWorks classes provide a high quality arts experience in a comfortable environment for youth and adults. Whether you are a beginner looking for a new hobby or an experienced artist hoping to polish your skills, there is an ArtWorks class for you. Both multi-day courses and one-day workshops are available. Take as many classes as you like! See pages 6-23.

Music instruction is offered at the Portland Center and the Blackford County Arts Center. Registering for fall automatically registers you for the spring semester as well. A summer semester is also available. Withdrawal must be made in writing by December 11th.

Since 1967, area residents of East Central Indiana and West Central Ohio have relied on Arts Place to provide quality education in art and music for all ages.

2nd - 4th Grade Piano Lab$30.00 | 10 Weeks | Emily GoinsStudents in 2nd through 4th grade, from any county, may take group piano lessons with an experienced instructor once a week for 45 minutes. Classes will be held on Thursdays, beginning February 17th. (See registration form for times.)

4th-6th Grade Guitar Lab$30.00 | 10 Weeks | Andrew KernStudents in 4th and 5th grade, from any county, may take group guitar lessons with an experienced instructor, once per week for 45 minutes. Classes will be held on Mondays, beginning February 20th.(See registration form for times.)

Ensembles are only available at the Portland Center of Arts Place.

Intro to Piano I & II $50 | 7 Weeks, Emily GoinsTuesdays, 3:30-4:00 p.m. Starts January 7thStudents age 5-8 will be introduced to the basics of piano playing. Two seven-week sessions will be offered. The first session is a prerequisite for the second session.

Brassissimo! $25 | 17 weeks Emilie GarringerMondays, 6:00-7:00 p.m. Starts January 6Calling all brass players! Enjoy the sounds of a brass only ensemble with Brassissimo! This performance based ensemble is open to all experienced trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone and tuba players.

Brown Paper Sax $25 | 17 Weeks Pete VoglerTuesdays, 5:00-6:00 p.m. Starts January 7Swing with other experienced saxophonists and enjoy performing a variety of musical styles – from jazz to classical!

Eastern Breeze Flute Ensemble $25 | 17 Weeks Pete VoglerMondays 6:00-7:00 p.m. Starts January 6Sponsored by WPGW Radio Station Eastern Breeze Flute Ensemble is open to all experienced flute players. This performance-oriented ensemble will participate in several performance opportunities each year.

Jay County Community Band FREE | 8 Weeks Pete VoglerMondays, 7:15-8:30 p.m. April 6 - May 25Sponsored by Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Xi Chapter, the Jay County Community Band is dedicated to bringing the highest level of musical service to the Jay County Community. This group offers several performance opportunities and performs a wide variety of musical styles.Participation is free, but registration is required.

Distant Thunder Percussion Ensemble $25 | 17 Weeks, Pete VoglerThursdays, 5:00-6:00 p.m. Starts January 9Sponsored by POET Biorefining, This ensemble is for people who enjoy the sounds of a “percussion only” group! Experienced percussionists will perform on both battery percussion and mallet instruments.

Ensembles Cont.Limberlost Recorders $25 | 17 Weeks Pete VoglerWednesdays, 5:00-6:00 p.m.Starts January 8The ancient sounds of the Renaissance recorder troupe will join our other ensembles this spring with the introduction of our newest MusicWorks offering, the Limberlost Recorder Consort. This performance-oriented group will include soprano, alto, tenor, bass recorders and is open to any and all experienced recorder players.

A Choired Taste FREE | 10 Weeks Eric R. RogersMondays, 5:30-6:45 p.m. Starts February 17The community choir of Arts Place is open to adults and high school stu-dents who can read music and match tones. Rehearsals will be on Mon-days from 5:30 -6:45 p.m. beginning February 17th. The choir will con-clude the semester with a public performance on Tuesday, April 21 at 7:00 p.m. Participation is free, but registration is required.

Students will learn wire wrapping, beading, and more in this fun 6 week class. New pieces will be made each week, and all materials are provided.

In the slime lab, kids will make a variety of different types of slime using common household materials with options to add their favorite colors and textures to make their creations as unique as they are!
