With buds already on the trees, June, for some of us, seems so close. We have just nineteen more weeks of school! Thinking literally of time, the chart below provides interesting perspective. Looking ahead, we are well into the planning for the ceremonial closing of Carver Christian High School. Our two new campuses are experiencing unprecedented interest from outside families; we rejoice and trust in God’s continued faithfulness. I wasn’t expecting to be taught about the Big Bang theory, but learning it has made me view God and his ways of working differently. It reminded me that God works in unexpected ways. I learned that evolution doesn’t have to be against Christianity. Also that science explains the How and faith explains the Why. I’m amazed at how complex God made the universe as well as the stars, and how peaceful they seem, just burning in space. I find it cool how God has placed them there for the purpose of just glorifying Him and in a way we can be reminded of what our purpose is, too. Astronomy – it really showed me how much God loves us because we are specks of life in his universe but He still sent Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. This section made me realize that the universe is a reflection of God’s power and love for us. One thing that really challenged me was the discussions on the Big Bang and Evolution. As we dove headfirst into these topics, I appreciated the many angles at which we took these cases, both biblical and scientific views. It was good that the discussions did not feel one-sided.

As you may remember, we promised to invite feedback from our community in choosing a new Phoenix logo to represent our soon-to-be K-12 school. Taking submissions from students and alumni, as well as the graphic designer who created the new VCS logo, the Carver/VCS admin team and our VCS board took part in several rounds of voting and editing to arrive at the three Phoenix logo ideas below. We are deeply appreciative of our students’ talent and energy in working on these concepts, and we are excited to share them with you. Each logo below is represented in the three school colours, for comparison. Once we have the community’s top pick, another round of editing will begin: colours may be combined, text added, etc. so that we can present a fully realized Phoenix to you soon. Please take a moment to read the notes with each submission; they call attention to important details and their significance.STUDENTS, you can vote herePARENTS, you can vote here (1 vote per person, last day to vote Friday 9 Feb)

This rendering of the Phoenix connects to the feather shape in our logo, as the Phoenix is pictured in flight--three wing shapes for elementary, middle, and high, and three tail feathers for the Trinity.

A “V” for Victory or Vancouver at its centre, this concept incorporates the head of the existing Carver Phoenix logo--a reference to our shared past and the resurrection quality of the Phoenix.

“See, I am doing a new thing:” A Phoenix Logo for a K-12 VCS

This side-profile Phoenix is a literal

VCS original--the components spell our initials as the Phoenix

takes flight.
