Evolve Use Case Development Approach

Supplier

Advantages

• Entirely transactional• Minimizes investment and risk• Ability to serve multiple

customers

Limitations

• Revenue potential capped• Lack of product use beyond

sale

Co-Developer

Advantages

• Collaboration drives innovation

• Recurring revenue sharing• Improved time to market• Shared R&D costs

Limitations

• Time & cost intensive• Use case needs• Potentially exclusivity issues

IT and Business impacts • IT departments should be prepared to work not only with their

mobile network providers, but also with equipment OEMs and other service vendors, as most early 5G enterprise solutions will be bespoke projects unique to individual corporate or industry vertical needs. Scale or off-the-shelf 5G use cases will not be available until 2021 or later.

5G for Enterprise Digital Transformation and Innovation

• Buyers, particularly multilocation and multinational entities, need to keep a pulse on the timing and geography of 5G service as deployment as it will initially be deployed in smaller pockets, with ubiquitous coverage some time off. Thus, the impact and benefits of 5G adoption may only be available to certain locations or subsidiaries in the near- to mid-term.

• CSPs and enterprise ICT teams should evaluate technological advantages of 5G and determine whether there are tangible, monetary benefits to be realized by (1) conducting operations faster, (2) having more responsive network, and (3) connecting significantly more devices. Some use cases may require all three enhancements, while others may only utilize one or two. And more importantly, identify which use case scenarios can be achieved through existing Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology.

Guidance for Technology

Buyers

5G will be a Key Enabler of Enterprise DX’s next chapter,

with at least 40%of All 5G connections stemming from business use cases by 2023.
