Evaluation of my AS Media work
By Jake Montford
The inverted and smaller logo keeping a ongoing theme
My contents page contains elements of existing music magazines. It has the format of NME and KERRANG! Keeping to the rectangular and block feature
The yellow is only featured on the contents page, it is to make subheadings stand out
A quote is a style used in a lot of magazines in is an easy way to make the audience interested
The plus sign or the word plus is from several different magazines
The ‘front-man’ of the band is raised forward giving him centre of attention
The band index is an idea from NME and it is a good way to keep a structure to the magazine
The black and white effect gives a retro and indie look
The light burst of colour in an almost colourless picture
The large letter at the front of the article was on every article I have ever seen in a music magazine
The guitar rips though and makes the word form around it, this style is not only for the aesthetically appealing, it also draws your attention towards him almost saying that he is more important
The ripped effect I chose to use because it fits the genre
Large masthead
Head goes over the name
Banner at the bottom
Similarities in the front page
Big band name
Hiding face but looking at camera
Similarities in the contests page
Larger main picture
Subheadings which stand out
Smaller picture(s)
Band index
The tilted title
Black and white/ sepia old/ retro form
Multiple pictures, one of which is a main
Similarities in the double page spread
Very little amount of colour
Looking away from the camera
How Does Your Media Product Represent Particular Social Groups
My magazine represents the traditional indie group, I did this by using retro styles. I also used an “original” indie kid this meant that he would be the aspiration for the readers, also he is sporting the labels and trends and selling them to the audience. Finally I used language to show the group, as I write it in a way as if it was spoken, not exactly slag and have the occasional not-so-funny pun/ play on words . Writing it in the way as if spoken gives it a easier way to flow when having an article based on an interview.
The Title of the Magazine
the original idea for my masthead, used on my preliminary task, was based around the ‘KERRANG!’ logo. I liked the broken letters and the simple black and white. I moved it on so would not be so similar and only kept the back and white style, because it would make it different to kerrang. Another quality of the logo is the addition of the pick as the dot on the lower case I, being the gimmick of the magazine.
Mis-en-scene of images
I think the mis-en-scene of my images follow the codes and conventions of magazines. The main background used is the out door snow, showing the time of the year. But it breaks the usual template for rock because it is almost the opposite of what you associate to rock. All the lightings and settings are natural showing how I am presenting the representation of rock as calm this time.
Written ContentThe written content of my magazine follows the traditional conventions of a music magazine by asking the similar topics and questions in the research. I used the style of writing in an article based around an interview, appose to asking the questions and writing down the entire conversation. This means I can filter out what seems boring and fill in connections to quotes and added facts.
The costumes and props reflect the person with in or using them, it sets the genre and makes the magazines style. The different clothes and props are advertised though the models, and selling there styles to the readers. All of my models are dress differently, this shows all of the sub-genres of indie and rock

What Have You Learnt About Technologies From The Process of Constructing This Product
I created a blog on Blogger to post all of my research and final work I used the Apple Macs during lesson times which is where the majority of my work was done
I learnt how to use Adobe Photoshop to create my magazine and editing my photos on it, I found it difficult at first but it gets easier.
I also used this memory stick to transfer the work I’d done on the apple Macs to my Blogger. also to add in aspects such as the basic pick shape and the barcode
I used a Samsung digital camera to take all of my photos.
As well as this I used “Microsoft Office PowerPoint” to create my presentations and publisher for my preliminaries.
The End
