As the beginning of your semester at Burapha University is drawing near, you probably have questions about preparing yourself for studying in Thailand. Here are some preliminary guidelines to help you in the easy and stress free as possible. Please take your times to read this handbook as it contains some detail is very important and useful information. If you have any further question or concern, please keep in touch with the staff.

Student Visa

With the acceptance letter you will be able to apply for Non-Immigrant “ED” visa. Your university can help you in this process or you can call the nearest Thai Embassy or Consulate. It is best to begin this process as soon as possible as it may take a few weeks to complete and mail back to forth.

For the first time, the Non- Immigrant “ED” visa will allow you to stay in Thailand only 90 days. At the end of this time you can renew your visa until the end of your study with the University’s Verification Letter. Besides, we recommend you to apply “Single –Entry Visa” If you are planning to go back to your country when close semester only.

We do not recommend you apply for the tourist visa to come to Thailand as a student unless there is special circumstance if you have been in Thailand before enrolling our program. Because of “Tourist visa” for 30 days and you can not renew therefore, after 30 days you will be leave from Thailand.

Health and Insurance

The one of policies of The Faculty of Education is all foreign students must has “Health Insurance” when you are our students, The Insurance should cover hospitalization and extra diagnostics. You will be paid 2,000 baht per year for your health insurance.

Currency and Money Matters

The easiest and safety way to carry larger sums of money is with traveler’s checks. You will need to have an initial amount of money to cover your room with security deposit, tuition fees, books and personal expenses. You can easily change traveler’s checks into Thai Baht either at the airport banks (Excellent rate).

The Thai Currency has five type of paper money is 1,000, 500, 100 , 50 , 20 Baht and four coins is 10 , 5 , 2 and 1 baht ( 50 and 25 satang is not popular in Bangsaen ). All the main currencies can be changed at the bank that handle foreign exchange. Both cash and credit card are accepted in Thailand.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport

How is it pronounced "su-wan-na-poom" Airport Code : Suvarnabhumi Airport inherited its IATA airport code BKK from Bangkok Don Muang International Airport (Thailand’s former International Airport). Airport Hotel : Above the underground rail link station and in front of the passenger terminal building is the 600 room hotel operated by Accor Group under the Novotel Suvarnabhumi brand.

The Passenger Terminal Complex

The PTC has 10 entrance gates accessed by 2 roads which are Inner Curb and Outer Curb. It is combined with the connected 7 concourses, anno-tated A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. Concourses A, B are for domestic flights and the others are for international flights. Passengers service for Domestic and International passengers are handled under the same roof. The Passenger Terminal Complex comprises of Floor 1 : Bus Lobby Floor 2 : Arrivals, Transfer Service Counter, Baggage Claim, Immigration, Customs, Counters for Transportation and Accommodation Floor 3 : Meeting and Greeting Gallery, Parking Building Access Floor 4 : Departures, Customer Service Center , Ticketing Offices, Immigration, Customs Floor 5 : Thai Airways and Star Alliance Offices Floor 6 : Restaurants Floor 7 : Observation Deck

Transportation in Suvarnabhumi Airport

Free shuttle bus service is provided for passengers and airport staff. The buses run in 3 routes. All of them travel between the Passenger Terminal Complex and the Public Transport Center, but the express route connects the main terminal directly to the transport center. Ordinary route connects to other airport facilities. For passenger convenience shuttle buses serving Suvarnabhumi airport are low-floor type.

5. Public Buses Take an express shuttle bus from the 2nd floor to the Public Transportation Center

6. Airport Express - Buy ticket at the AE counter on the 1st floor - Get on the bus on the 1st floor

If you are the one of exchange students project , who has MOU with our faculty . We arrange the car or bus to pick – up you leave from Suvarnabhumi International Airport to Burapha University as well as the accommodation for your group. so, please waited at the exit door gate 3

The Research Institute of Culture and Arts The Research Institute of Culture and Arts is the unit responsible to promote and preserve art and culture, to cultivate morality and ethics, to realize art and culture value to the young children and students, as well as being the research center for culture information

The Institute of Marine Science The Institute of Marine Science is a research institute and its status is equivalent to a faculty of Burapha University. The main objective of the institute is to conduct research works in marine science in four difference areas as follows: mariculture, marine environment, marine biodiversity and marine biotechnology. In addition, the institute also provides academic service to communities as well as other institutes.

Burapha University Language Institute: BUULI Burapha University Language Institute is the central unit responsible for teaching foreign Languages, conducting research works and producing media in foreign Languages as well as providing foreign languages service to the communities.

The Computer Center The Computer Center is an organization which provides computer service for administration and learning. The center also provides computer training courses and academic services to the public.

The Academic Service Center (UNISERY) The Academic Service Center (UNISERY) is the center of university to provide the services including the training courses, technology and also the consultation to the community. These services are collaborated between lectures and experienced experts who are able to maximize the potentiality of the services.

The Central Library The Central Library is the information service center supporting research and education of the university and community. It serves as the information center for printed and electronic media. In addition, it is also equipped with the internet service, cable TV, video, multimedia CD-ROM, VCD, and DVD workstations. The central Library website is www.lib.buu.ac.th which is available for online information searching , such as OPEC, online database, e-journals.Etc.

Eastern Region Center for Space Technology and Geo-Informatics (ESG) Eastern Region Center for Space Technology and Geo-Informatics (ESG) is an organization which provides data and technical services related to space technology and geo-informatics in Eastern region. The Center also provides geo-informatics training course and research to support sustainable development at the local level.

Korean Chinese Studies center Korean Chinese Studies center is dedicated to be a regional information center as well as an exchange and cooperative center for the study on the Chinese language, culture and economy.

The Confucius Institute The Confucius Institute is a non-profit public institute with mission to promote Chinese language and culture and supporting local Chinese teaching.

The Health Science Center The Health Science Center is an organization concentration on health research , as well as providing health services to students, the university staff and faculty community, In addition, local people. It has the capacity of a 150-bed hospital and also facilities professional practice work of nursing and public health students.

Indochina Studies Center (ISC) Indochina Studies Center (ISC) is a sector under The Graduate School of Public Administration. ISC’s mission includes : 1. Conducting research 2. Dissemination neighboring countries languages training 3. Serving as coordinating center for Indochina studies. ISC aims to develop and grow to become the “Information Center Countries” at the national level in the near future.

Clinic Technology, Burapha University It is the center of collaboration between Burapha University Academic Service Center and the Ministry of Science and Technology, which aims to distribute the technological knowledge within the university, including the traditional knowledge of local wisdom. It also promotes the science and technology understanding to the community and also encourages the use of knowledge commercially to gain the better quality of life.

Technology Licensing Office and University Business Incubation (TLO-UBI) It has the function of providing the information in technology licensing created by lecturers, students, researches, and university staff in the eastern region. It also renders services to promote, protect, and make use of the technology commercially and publicly. The purpose of UBI is to establish new business.

Dormitory Accommodation. There are dormitories for undergraduate and post-graduate students on campus. There are also many private dormitories near the university which are in walking distance of the university.

University ‘s Dormitory

Dormitory 14 (for men), Dormitory15 (for women) A 5-storey building with112 rooms each of which covers the area of about 90 square meters. Each room can hold 7 students. Each student can use 12 units of electricity per month. If the students overuse the electricity, they have to pay 5 baht for each unit.

The furniture and facilities provided: -Beds 3x7.2 foot mattresses -Wardrobes -Desk and chair -Wireless internet Notice: There is no private bathroom but there are public bathrooms at the back of the dormitory. Therefore, the students should prepare appropriate personal belongings. The things the students should prepare: bedclothes, a pillow, a blanket, an electric fan, personal belongings, locks and keys, clothes, and a book case.
