Mill Creek is a city in Snohomish County of Washington State. It is located approximately 20 miles north (NNE) of downtown Seattle. The population was 11,525 at the 2000 census. Mill Creek is planned community with Mill Creek Golf & County Club as its centerpiece. From the

164th exit on I-5 go east for a few miles and Mill Creek is quietly nestled in off the main highway but it is still close to major cities,

In its early years, Mill Creek was densely wooded with very few roads. These days it retains some of that heritage with Mill Creek (the actual creek) running through downtown and towering Evergreens bordering streets, highways and neighborhoods. Mill Creek is also in excellent proximity to many out-door activities like snow skiing, hiking, camping and fishing. By taking a short drive residents can expe-

rience some of natures most beautiful landscapes.

Officially incorporated in 1983, Mill Creek is one of Washington’s youngest cities but it has a deep histo-

ry. Local lore has many stories but the most interesting one is

“They owned 50 acres, sold off ten to pay back taxes, and then moved deep into the woods. There they built a cabin on what today is the 13th tee of the Mill Creek Golf Course. Access was over a rugged trail through the property that is now Larry’s Smokehouse. The depression was a lean time; the family raised chickens, pigs, gardened and even did some logging; anything to survive. The family of five lived in a cabin that measured 15 feet square and stood about 5 1/2 feet high. It had a crude door, an opening that passed for a window, a wood stove that supplied heat and cooking and a dirt floor, which was later planked over. Water came from a spring in the winter. During the sum-

mer the spring dried up and they had to carry water from Penny Creek. The

cabin is long gone, replaced by the Laurel subdivision.”

Shortly after the turn of the 20th century, Mill Creek started to develop as a supporting suburb of Everett but it wasn’t until the 1950s that it has turn into

a thriving young city.

Mill Creek was officially incorporated on August 30, 1983 The city has rapid-ly grown with large number of families and jobs and now thrives around the

New Town Center.

In 1993 a group of families led by Don Diers, Tim Austin, Don Mannino,

Mike Gibb and Ed Lundberg gathered together to form the new Mill Creek

Little League. The desire was to create a local little league program within

the boundaries of the Jackson High School service area that could meet the

baseball and softball needs of boys and girls. With the help of the District 1

administrator Tony Monfiletto, the new league was created and operating for

the 1994 season. Don Mannino was selected as the first league president as

the new league utilized Cedar Wood Elementary School in the Everett School

District as their first home field. In 2004 the City of Mill Creek opened their

new state of the art athletic field, Freedom Field of which Mill Creek Little

League

was soon to make their new home field. Through-

out the years Mill Creek Little League has been

led by the following presidents, Don Mannino,

Jim Gural, Pam Olson, Denny Snider, Dave

Charleson, Tom Davis and Ed Lundberg. In 2008,

Mill Creek Little League was extremely proud to

host the Washington State All Star Tournament.

The league has also produced several District 1

TOC champions as well as state champions in

baseball and softball. In 2006 the Mill Creek Little

League Girls Softball team came within two outs

from going to the World Series. In 2008 the Mill

Creek Little League 12 year old baseball team did

win the Northwestern Regional Championship and

participated in the World Series at Williamsport, PA.

Likewise Mill Creek Little League has produced created many

great memories over the years for players and their families. Sev-

eral of MCLL players have gone onto play high school, college

and professional baseball. In 2006 when Jackson High School

won the 4 high school baseball championship for the State of

Washington, several MCLL players were contributing members.

MCLL is also very proud of their latest alum to play major league

baseball, Travis Snider who is a member of the Toronto Blue

Jays.
