Summer Update Time has passed since we talked about our Building Renovations Planning Committee. The committee has been formed and has met. We have had a contractor come to give an estimate and recommendations for the bathrooms.

Because of our long-term goal of refurbishing the entire Tony Rinella Hall, which would include movable dividers to make the space more usable and intimate for smaller occasions, such as Coffee and Donuts or religious education, we will have to work with the city permit process. Consequently, the bathrooms that we are working on updating will need to be brought up to code in relation to the whole hall. This means that we should not just remodel the bathrooms without taking into consideration the requirements by the city for the occupancy-toilet ratio. We are presently working on hiring an architect to help create an overall plan for the hall. With that in place we will start on the bathrooms.

I’m thankful to the members of the planning committee and the work they have done so far and the excellent recommendations they have made. With summer vacations, it has been a little slower process, but we are definitely making progress that has been well-considered and shows foresight. Thank you for your continued prayers. God bless,

Fr. Jaspers

The Prayer Process Taken from The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic

1. Gratitude: Begin by thanking God in a personal dialogue for whatever you are most grateful for today.

2. Awareness: Revisit the times in the past twenty-four hours when you were and were not the-best-version-of-your-self. Talk to God about these situations and what you learned from them.

3. Significant Moments: Identify something you experienced in the last twenty-four hours and explore what God might be trying to say to you through that event (or person).

4. Peace: Ask God to forgive you for any wrong you have committed (against yourself, another person, or Him) and to fill you with a deep and abiding peace.

5. Freedom: Speak with God about how He is inviting you to change your life, so that you can experience the freedom to be the-best-version-of-yourself.

6. Others: Lift up to God anyone you feel called to pray for today, asking God to bless and guide them.

7. Pray the Our Father.

Social Concerns

Social Concerns Coordinating Team This team meets monthly

on the 1st Thursday at 6:30pm. Mission Statement

The mission of Ascension Social Concerns Coordination Team is to inspire and support our parish in living out our baptismal call, integrating Catholic social teaching in our community and

promoting the dignity of life.

There are 7 Key Themes of Catholic Social Teaching

Life and Dignity of the Human Person Call to Family, Community and Participation Rights and Responsibilities Option for the Poor and Vulnerable The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers Solidarity Care for God’s Creation

Life & Dignity of the Human Person The Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a

moral vision for society. This belief is the foundation of all principles of our social teaching. In our society, human life is under direct attack from abortion and euthanasia. Human life is threatened by cloning, embryonic stem cell research, and the use of the death penalty.

The intentional targeting of civilians in war or terrorist attacks is always wrong. Catholic teaching calls on us to work to avoid

war. Nations must protect the right to life by finding effective ways to prevent conflicts and resolve them by peaceful means. We believe that every person is precious, that people are more

important than things, and that the true measure of every institution is whether it threatens or enhances the life and

dignity of the human person.

Padre Jaspers
