God: The Father YouCat Q. 30

We believe in only one God because, according to the testimony of Sacred Scripture, there is only one God and, according to logic, there can be only one.

YouCat Q. 32-33

God, in his very nature, is truth and love (1 John 1:5, Proverbs 8:7, 2 Samuel 7:28, Psalm 119:142, John 18:37, John 14:6, 1 John 4:8). Since God is love, then there is nothing created that is not carried an surrounded by his infinite benevolence. God not only declares that he is love, be also proves it: “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).

YouCat Q. 35

We believe in one God in three persons.

God is Father because he eternally begets the

second person of the Holy Trinity. The Son and Father love each other so much, that their love is a real person, the Holy Spirit.

YouCat Q. 40

“For God nothing is impossible” (Luke 1:37). God can do anything which is not contrary to his nature. For example, it would be against his nature to defy the laws of logic. This is why questions like, “can God create a rock so big he can’t lift it” are nonsense. It is not a limit on his power, but rather the question is a self contradiction (like a square circle).

YouCat Q. 42

We can accept the theory of evolution and still believe in the Creator. Although it is a different kind of knowledge, faith is open to the findings and hypotheses of the sciences. Science can only study the material universe. Thus, it cannot prove or disprove the existence of God, the human soul, where

matter came from, angels, morality, etc. Science is a good thing as long as we don’t think that it can reveal the whole truth of all of existence.

YouCat Q. 49

God guides the world and our individual lives, but in a mysterious way. God guides everything along paths that only he knows, leading it to its perfection. At no point in time does something that he created fall out of his hands.

YouCat Q. 51

If God is all knowing and all powerful, why does he not prevent evil?

YouCat Q. 56-66

Man is the summit of creation, because God created him in his image (Genesis 1:27). Man has been entrusted with governing the rest of the physical creation. Being created in God’s image means that we were created as “persons” meaning we have both an intellect and a will. They exist in our immortal spirit, which we call: the soul. The soul is created directly by God, not made by parents like the body. God created man “male” and “female” so that together they might be an image of his nature, which is community.

YouCat Q. 67-70

Sin is the rejection of God’s love. We live in his love by following his commands and participating in his sacraments. Original Sin is not a personal sin, but the disastrous, fallen state of mankind into which the individual is born, even before we sin by our free decision. Deeply wounded by original sin, we are inclined to commit personal sins, though not compelled. We can resist this inclination, especially when aided by his grace.

God allows evil only so as to make something better result from it.
