1. PRODUCT OVERVIEW The ascom IP-DECT system is a reliable wireless communication solution that combines Voice over IP (VoIP) with Digitally Enhanced Cordless Telephony (DECT) technology. It offers enterprise-grade telephony over secure dedicated frequency bands.

• IP (Internet Protocol) - universal standard for inter-networking that maximizes scalability and interoperability.

• DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telephony) - secure radio communication standard that delivers superior voice quality over reserved radio frequency bands.

The IP-DECT system allows 2-way voice communications with residents via the Advent XT2 warden call system and between staff, both internally and externally if required.

When the Advent XT2 is operating in onsite mode all alarm calls are reported via the IP-DECT system. When the phone rings the caller will be identified on the display (provided the phone book memory is programmed), when answered a voice message will announce the call type and channel ID before a speech link is opened.

The size/complexity of the building will determine the number of IP-DECT Access Points needed to achieve site-wide radio coverage. The exact quantity and positioning of the IP-DECT Access Points will be determined by a site survey prior to commencing the installation.

All IP-DECT Access Points are star-wired from a central PoE Ethernet Switch on Cat5e cable (max length 100 metres). The model of PoE Switch will be determined by the number of IP-DECT Access Points fitted.

The Matrix NENX IP50 PBX allows up to 50 IP-DECT handsets to integrate with the Advent XT2 warden call system, it also allows phone-phone calling and access to an outside line to make/receive external calls. The IP-PBX comes pre-configured so all incoming CO lines ring all SLT analogue and all IP extensions. If required, day/night groups can be set so different handsets can be alerted depending on the time of day. Alternatively, the handsets can be configured into zones, so alerts are only notified to the staff responsible for specific areas.

There are 2 types of IP-DECT handset available; the standard d43 model and a higher spec d63 model. These can be mixed on the same installation up to a maximum of 50 handsets per site.

In the event of a mains power failure a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) will maintain operation of the complete IP-DECT system. The length of time the IP-DECT system will remain operational depends on the number of IP-DECT Access Points connected and the volume of traffic. If the UPS shuts down all onsite calls will be reported to the fixed desk telephone connected to SLT1 on the Matrix IP-PBX.

4. MAINTENANCE & CARE For peace of mind and to ensure your system is maintained to the highest standard Tynetec recommend an annual Maintenance Contract. This will provide vital assistance in times of need from a nationwide team of trained Service Engineers who specialise in warden call systems.

A Preventative Maintenance Visit (PMV) is also recommended, this covers the replacement of all batteries, a full system test, software updates (where applicable) and a Service Certificate.

For more information on Maintenance Contract packages and PMV’s please contact your local Tynetec Approved Installer, a list can be found on our website; www.tynetec.co.uk/installer-locator

MONTHLY MAINTENANCE

The Matrix IP-PBX, Ethernet Switch and IP-DECT Access Points do not require any regular maintenance, if any items show signs of damage they should be replaced immediately by a Service Engineer. Handsets should be cleaned regularly using anti-bacterial wipes. Products needing repair can be returned via the website; www.tynetec.co.uk/returns-policy ANNUAL MAINTENANCE

Rechargeable batteries in the IP-DECT handsets should be replaced every 2-3 years or 500 charging cycles. The rechargeable batteries in the UPS should be tested every year by a Service Engineer and replaced every 3-5 years depending on the number of discharge cycles and environmental conditions. See the specification for each product in section 14 onwards for details of battery types.

In the unlikely event that the IP-DECT system needs to be turned-off or reset, please ensure all active calls are actioned before proceeding.

5. IP-DECT OVERVIEW The maximum theoretical range for any IP-DECT system is 500 metres under ideal conditions, in practice the range will rarely exceed 300 metres due to reflections from nearby buildings, trees, water, etc.

Obstructions inside buildings such as walls and floors will reduce the range, some construction materials such as foil backed plasterboard, reinforced concrete or stone walls will reduce range further.

Environmental conditions such as high levels of transmission at nearby frequencies or emissions from other electrical equipment may also reduce range.

Clear line-of-sight will give maximum radio coverage, it is impossible to state a specific indoor range in advance of a site survey; however, as a guide you can usually achieve 50 metres radius from each IP-DECT Access Point.

Locating the IP-DECT Access Point as high and free from immediate obstruction as possible will help to maximise its range. Even if the Access Point is placed in the optimum position it may not always achieve coverage in the most remote corners, if this is the case then Access Points will be required.

The IP-DECT Access Points should always be located at least 5 metres away from the Advent XT2 controller, NTR’s or any other electrical equipment to avoid the risk of interference.

All IP-DECT products must be sited in a dry secure area; they are NOT suitable for outdoor locations.

AVOID LOCATING IP-DECT PRODUCTS…

WITHIN 5 METRES OF OTHER ELECTRONIC

EQUIPMENT

DIRECTLY ABOVE A HEAT SOURCE

IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT NEAR TO SPLASHING WATER

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Care must be taken during installation and commissioning of any IP-DECT system to ensure full radio coverage and correct Radio Part Numbering. Failure to follow the Manufacturer’s installation and programming instructions may result in blind spots or calls dropping-out when moving between radio cells. Always perform several test calls in all extremes of the building with all IP-DECT handsets in use, i.e. simultaneous phone-phone calls.

10. ASCOM IPBS2 IP-DECT ACCESS POINTS IP-DECT Access Points can be fixed to a wall or a ceiling using the plugs, screws and mounting bracket included. Alternatively, a flexible metal band or strap (not included) can be used to fix to a pole or beam.

IP-DECT Access Points can be installed vertically or horizontally – the mounting positions should have been pre-determined by a site survey. They should always be placed in way that they are not facing large metal objects such as heating or ventilation pipes/ducts.

Fixing IP-DECT Access Points to metal surfaces is not recommended for several reasons. If this is unavoidable, try and ensure a distance of 1 metre between the Access Point and the metal surface.

FIXING THE MOUNTING BRACKET TO A WALL

1. Hold the mounting bracket with its flat side against the wall with the text “TOP” upwards and mark through the two fixing holes. The minimum distance between the top hole and the ceiling (or any object above) must be at least 100mm. If the distance is less the Access Point cannot be slid onto its bracket.

2. Drill the two holes using a 6mm drill bit and insert the 2 wall plugs provided.

3. Position the mounting bracket with its flat side against the wall and fix with the two screws provided. FIXING THE MOUNTING BRACKET TO A CEILING

Fixing to a ceiling is the same as a wall described above. When the Access Point has to be positioned above a suspended ceiling ensure the front face of the Access Point points downwards. FIXING THE MOUNTING BRACKET TO A POLE OR BEAM

The mounting bracket can be fixed to a pole (diameter ≥45mm) or a beam (wider than 50mm) by means of a strap or flexible metal band less than 30mm wide. The strap or flexible metal band is not included.

13. IP-DECT SYSTEM COMMISSIONING This section describes the visual inspection and tests that must be performed after completing the installation and setup of the IP-DECT system. The purpose of the visual inspection and tests is to verify that the installation has resulted in a correctly functioning system. If it appears that a part is malfunctioning while the system is installed correctly (that is, no cabling faults, no configuration faults), refer to the Troubleshooting (section 10) of the ascom IPBS2 installation manual for fault finding. RADIO COVERAGE VERIFICATION TESTS

The radio coverage verification consists of two tests:

• Access Point operation test

• Radio Coverage test

IMPORTANT: ensure that the IP-DECT handset batteries are fully charged before performing the tests. ACCESS POINT OPERATION TEST

The purpose of this test is to check if all Access Points are operational.

1. Put a handset in the service display mode (DCA mode), see applicable User Manual for the handset. 2. Walk around the site referring to the Access Point location drawing. 3. Move close to each Access Point and check that the handset locks to it (the service display should

display the correct number).

After having checked that all Access Points are operational proceed with the Radio Coverage test. RADIO COVERAGE TEST

The purpose of this test is to verify that there is satisfactory field strength to enable good speech quality everywhere within the covered area (rooms, lift shafts, staircases). This test is performed with two handsets and requires two persons.

1. Place the handset in the service display mode (DCA mode) and call the other handset. One user of the handset should now start moving around the covered area. Both users must check that a good speech quality is maintained everywhere. Special attention should be paid to areas such as edges of the building and areas behind metal structures where there is a possibility of reduced speech quality.

2. Mark areas where audio break-up or mutes are heard.

When the Radio Coverage test is complete the results should be evaluated. If the coverage is not sufficient you should review the planning and re-locate or add more Access Points as required. CORDLESS EXTENSION NUMBER TEST

This test checks the connection from the IP-DECT system to the IP-PBX for each handset. Furthermore it checks that all the handset numbers have been correctly programmed. The test is performed by calling all handsets from one specific handset.

1. Put all handset together in order of extension number on a table. 2. Go off-hook with each handset and check that the dial tone is heard. 3. Call with a handset (handset A) all other handsets sequentially and check that the handset with the

corresponding number on its display rings when called. 4. Call handset A and check if it rings.
