Lord Buddha: First Discourse in this day
Dhammacakkapavattana-Sutta
This discourse is found in Suttanta Pitaka (Samyuttanikāya,
Mahāvagga and Saccasamyutta) and in the Vinaya Pitaka
(Mahāvagga and Pañcavaggiyakathā).
Lord Buddha first thought to teach His Dhamma to Ālāra
Kālāma and Uddaka Rāmaputta. Later, he heard that they both
passed away. So, He decided to teach the
five ascetics. They were living at Deer
Park, Isipatana (Sarnath) near Varanasi.
Buddha taught: Avoid two extremes: (1)
Kāmesu kāmasukhallikānuyogo: Addiction
to indulgence of sense-pleasures, which is
low, coarse, vulgar, worldly, ignoble, the way
of ordinary people, unworthy, and unprofit-
able. (2) Attakilamathānuyogo:
Addiction to self-mortification,
which is painful, ignoble, unwor-
thy and unprofitable.
Follow Middle Paths: It produces vision and
knowledge; leads to tranquility, higher knowledge,
enlightenment and Nibbāna.
Noble Eightfold Paths: Sammā-
ditthi (Right Understanding),
Sammā-sankappo (Right Thought),
Sammā-vācā (Right Speech),
Sammā-kammanto (Right Action),
Sammā-ājīvo (Right Livelihood),
Sammā-vāyāmo (Right Effort),
Sammā-sati (Right Mindfulness), and Sammā-
samādhi (Right Concentration). This is gives vision
and knowledge; leads to calm, insight, enlightenment
and Nibbana.
Four Noble Truths: (1) Suffering: Suffering is birth,
ageing, sickness, death, association with the unpleas-
ant, dissociation from the pleasant, not to receive what
one desires - in brief the five aggregates subject to
grasping are suffering. (2) Origin of Suffering:
Craving which produces rebirth accompanied by
passionate greed, for sense pleasure, for existence and
for self-annihilation. (3) Cessation of Suffering:
Complete cessation of that craving, giving it up,
relinquishing it, liberating oneself from it, and detach-
ing oneself from it. (4) Path
leading to the Cessation of
Suffering: The Noble
Eightfold Paths; namely:
Right Understanding, Right
Thought, Right Speech,
Right Action, Right Liveli-
hood, Right Effort, Right
Mindfulness and Right
Concentration.
At the end of the discourse,
Ven. Kondañña attained
Sotãpanna (first stage of
sainthood) and realized the
dhamma clearly.
His Second Discourse was
the Anattalakkhana Sutta
(soullessness). After two
discourses, all five ascetics
attained arahantship.

Rain Retreat (Vassa)
After a day of Ashari Purnima in 589 BCE (Before Christian Era), our Great Mater Gautama
Buddha observed the first Rain Retreat (Vassa) period for three months together with his 60
Arahant disciples at Issipatana Deer Park, Banaras. They were five ascetics, Yassa, and 54
Yass‟s friends.
At the end of the retreat, Buddha admonished and sent them: “Oh, Bhikkhus! I've already been
freed from all defilements and so you have all too. Now, go forth in all directions expounding
the Dhamma which is excellent in the beginning, in the middle and in the end for the welfare of
men and Devas out of compassion to the whole world. But, you must not go two together on
the same journey". Afterwards the Buddha himself went to Uruvela grove to teach the
Dhamma to one thousand ascetics led by the three Kassapa brothers, viz. Uruvela Kassapa,
Nadi Kassapa and Gaya Kassapa.
In the earliest centuries, monks were itinerant and wandering (Thudang) for nine months in a
year, i.e. before the Vassa. When the monsoons began, they gathered together in their particular
place in order to teach each other, studies and intensive practice meditation. This kind of prac-
tice is still found in some Theravada countries.
Vassa is marked by two major religious events: one for entering and another is for exiting.
During the Vassa, i.e. three months (July to September approximately; but it is depending on
lunar months), monks aren't allowed to stay at night outside their own monasteries, temples,
shrines, capes, huts, hermitages, trees, etc. It is the period for monks and novices to studies and
intensive practice the Dhamma-Vinaya both Pariyatti and Patipatti. They confessed each other
and recite the whole Patimokkha in every fortnightly. They observed their respective precepts
strictly according to Vinaya (Disciplinary Rules). This tradition was prescribed by our Great
Master. So, even after 2553 years the monks, still following this tradition all over the world.
Lay Buddhists also reinvigorate their spiritual training and adopt more ascetic practices, such
as observed Eight Precepts and practice meditation in every Uposatha Day, giving up meat,
alcohol and smoking.

We are Chakma. We are Nation..We have
National Identity. We have history. We have
language & scriptures. We have customary
law and cultures. We have King. We are
belong from Sakya Clan. We are followers of
our religious teacher (Buddha), who belong
from our clan. We are Ksatriya (Warrior).
“We are very proud of it”.
What is the main aim to be go forth?
Bana Bhante admonished to his disciples: To be totally free from worldly
life. To be forget what you suffered in the past. Contemplate the objects
(suffering) which arising in every moment in the present and strongly deter-
mine to be destroy and annihilate it. This is the main aims to be go forth.
Man and woman get together is suffering. Both, they are suffering. No any
ultimate destination for them. Because, they are floating on the suffering ocean.
So, from today determined that should not be involve any group, whether man
or woman. To claim man or woman is ignorance. As a homelessness person,
not to take part any side whether male or female. Avoid to participate in any
group. To live under the refuges of the Buddha., Dhamma, and Sangha. Bana
Bhante is not in any group. Human beings make sin for five reasons: angry,
hatred, ignorance, proud, and lying. Don‟t look for respect and appreciation.
Those gone forth, who not violated four Parajikas, they are respect by the
Devas.
